Tetris Attack on SNES was essentially this as well. It was
Panel de Pon in Japan. Nintendo didn't think the characters and branding of it would do as well outside Japan, so they tied it to the Tetris franchise by title only, and filled it with
Yoshi's Island characters. Later installments in the series got rebranded as
Pokemon Puzzle League instead.
