For me it's Pinkie Pie > Spike > Rainbow Dash > Twilight > Rarity > Fluttershy > Applejack.

Not that it really matters, because even Applejack is better than the vast majority of animated characters on shows I've watched.

i'd cautiously agree, but it's not dissimilar to season one of the wire in that regard - it's a pretty great beginning in any case, and putting it last is a relatively minority opinion.

it certainly lacks the scope of the rest (some see this as a positive, but i don't tend to) and it has probably the weakest writing and the most inconsistent pacing too.

I can't wait until he finishes Clash of Kings and I can write a post summarizing why it's my least favorite

I'll get in a huge amount of trouble for saying this, but Clash of Kings is actually my least favorite of the first four books.
Of course that's kind of a silly thing to say when I absolutely love all four books -- it's like naming a least favorite Metal Gear Solid, when I think they're all aces. The general consensus is that the first or the fourth book is the worst, though, and I guess I differ from that.

One of the most broken battle systems in the FF series, LOL orphanage twist, Laguna's team and Quistis were the only characters I truly appreciated, etc.

In terms of the objective quality of the respective movies and novels, I prefer LotR.
In terms of the actual impact on the entertainment industry as a whole, and the influence of the 'expanded universes' of both series, I prefer Star Wars.

Yeah, if someone wants to do ASoIaF I'd definitely say limit it to A Game of Thrones for now.

I agree with this, though. Do GoT first and limit the Mafia game to spoilers in the first book, and then a year later follow it up with Clash of Kings, then Storm of Swords.

Ulti was actually probably the one in the worst position. One decision would've appeared to cause scum to lose the game, in such a way that the scumboards would be livid, whereas the other decision would've actually led town to lose the game, and would have punished a new B8 player who was trying hard.

I don't envy him for that.

Still, I really don't want to imagine a world where Inviso would've had every right to blame me for wasting weeks of her time
Her fury would've been immense

(Although ironically, folks like Plum would have the far greater grievance. Inviso would've mislynched me anyway, so she probably would've have lost the game whether or not I was Modkilled. Plum apparently thought I was obv-town, so he'd actually perceive himself of having a legitimate chance of winning if I wasn't Modkilled.)

I understand why you say this, but I'm sure as hell glad it didn't work out that way, personally.
If I was Modkilled and day ended, scum probably wins that game immediately because they then target Inviso/Pesci and Dowolf isn't lynched, meaning instead of congratulating Atma and scum for a hard-fought victory, everyone would have been blaming me for wasting their time. I would have been personally and directly responsible for Town's loss, would've taken it quite hard and probably would have sworn off future Mafia games.

Again, I understand the logic that Modkills should hurt the guy's team, but damn, given it actually was by your admission a fairly innocuous mistake, can you even imagine

...I thought the original drafts were well-written in and of themselves, but I do feel the new versions are better polished.
The originals were marred with tense changes for one, as well as some weird language where it felt in retrospect like Snake briefly broke character, and one or two exchanges that were kind of funny but also somewhat thematically inappropriate

I will make this one criticism of Martin, I never found the later books as unpredictable as the first one, in large part because I quickly learned that any and every Stark reunion would not happen, and every tragedy that could be inflicted on the Starks would be inflicted upon them.

Mind you I love this series, but grimdark twists where "everything horrible that could happen to the Starks will happen" isn't much more unpredictable than "the heroes will always win"
The best twist Martin could throw in about now is two Starks unexpectedly running into each other IMHO, but I guess I understand why he feels all happiness must wait until the endgame
