I'm not sure AI is the right word here, but he's right. I don't have to worry about something beyond my control with Ashley.

This is particularly important, because most of my enjoyment from RE4 comes from being able to manage the game to a rather fine degree. The enemies move and attack slowly, I can slow and stun even more by hitting their legs or head, I can shoot down their projectiles, and I can pause at any time and instantly switch weapons. Getting hit takes a large amount of your health percentage wise, and there's no regeneration BS, which is enough incentive to try to get hit very rarely (which is quite possible). Overabundance of herbs does undercut that effect though, unfortunately.

A shame that RE5 basically just takes a s*** on all of that.

I doubt that the talent that worked on Nuts and Bolts and Viva Pinata is still there. If you think that anybody there at all touched any of the games you remember fondly from the N64 or SNES you're, uh, completely and utterly wrong.

I haven't played any of the games on Extreme (played them all on Hard, MGS2 with game over if discovered on because that's less frustrating) and I doubt I will for quite a while. I don't really want to replay these games just for the gameplay/stuff I can collect right now and I'm not sure if I ever will. I'd play 4 and Peacewalker PS3 HD before doing that, too.

Oh, and the Harrier fight is really cool and fun to play but it loses a lot because it's basically just the Hind D fight in a different location and with rockets thrown into its regular arsenal.

Yeah, the Vamp fight in MGS2 is definitely my favorite boss in the series so far. He's pretty damn cool, it takes place in a cool area, and most importantly it's really f***ing fun to play. The Ray Army and Fatman are both awesome in theme and gameplay, too. Solidus fight is a great way to end the game and is good gameplay wise because it gives you a boss fight to use the sword in. Olga is just kind of "eh" but it's so early in the game so whatever.

There's definitely fewer boss fights in MGS2 than the other two games but they're definitely higher quality overall.

PS3 HD Collection versions, if you care. I only recently played them because I didn't care or something when I was 9 years old (for 2 SoL) I guess.

The more complex and larger map design of MGS3 doesn't fit a stealth game well, nor do the extra limitations of footstep noises or needing to hide with camouflage. TS and MGS2 are much faster and easier to manipulate than MGS3.

MGS2 also has the best atmosphere/story/whatever and the simpler industrial graphics have aged far better than MGS3's. It also has the best bosses, easily so in terms of gameplay.

Lost Sanctum and monster arena are just really, really bad. Best to completely ignore them until you do just about everything else.

That other DS dungeon that has a new ending is fine, though. Not amazing but far, far, better than Lost Sanctum.

IMO the 2D Metroids don't control all that well and are pretty easily outclassed by the similar Castlevania games in terms of gameplay. They still have pretty great atmosphere and music, etc, but time has probably taken its toll on those aspects.

Prime is absolutely f***ing amazing though and has an amazing world.

BP caps at 99, HP and FP cap at 100. You'll probably cap HP or FP before the end of the game if you really plug points into one of them but you really shouldn't.

Played Twin Snakes for the first time (of any version of MGS1) recently, too.

Playing on Hard, Radar 2, Game Over if Discovered. In Twin Snakes I ended up killing myself most of the time I got caught anyway because I took damage and would rather retry with full health than wait out the alert, so I figured that turning game over if discovered on this time is probably appropriate.

First trophy: Steel Grip. pull-ups oh yeah

Yes, there's a good amount of overly long tutorials at parts. There's also quite a few really cool parts of it. In fact, most of the plot stuff is actually pretty damn good. Following Fi through Skyloft in the night for the first time is probably my favorite part of the game.

This is shorter than I'd like it to be, but I guess I just really don't get how you could hate the whole intro for what's ultimately a small part of it.
