6 or so hours of interactive anime for $60.

Sounds decent enough.

I really like they've acknowledged that the entire point of the gameplay is to ratchet up to a bigger cutscene conclusion and tailored the gameplay to specifically accomplish this.

Also, one of the things that I love about these games is that if you get hit or surrounded or in some bad position, you f***ed up. Or at least, well, that's how I think it should be.

Dead Space doesn't really do that. I found that enemies coming out of vents makes it too hard to know where they're going to be and makes a bunch of the hits you take feel cheap.

I only played RE4 for the first time very recently, but it's an absolutely amazing game. Hadn't played anything similar, either.

It's an absolutely amazing game. The slower pace places much more importance on tactics than a lot of other shooters. Attache case management is awesome.

The way kicks/suplex/knife works with headshots/legshots is indescribably satisfying.

I played some of RE5 a little later. Forced AI and simpler item system takes away far too much of the management I can do. I don't think any video game has given me a worse feeling than when I realized that even though I used one pistol bullet for a headshot and then punched and knifed the enemy to death my partner was still using up half a clip or whatever of pistol ammo while I'm doing that.

Switching weapons taking in-game time really sucks, too. I'd take instant weapon switching in a pause menu over quick switching that takes in game time any day. ...Well, maybe not if we're dealing with FF Chronicles Chrono Trigger PS1 levels of lag or some bulls***.

In the other, the annoying, completely unhelpful, magical servant who has been b****ing at you the entire game and been a real god damn dick gets his arms ripped off and impaled by a sword as War and his loyal brothers declare was against absolutely everything that still f***ing exists.

It's done. 400,000 dollars overnight. It was put up at 6 PM EST, right? Less than 12 hours.

There's still a whole god damn month on this thing... it's coming to Mac and iOS too, it seems.

Yeah, a single hit means so much more now. There's too much s*** to collect. Hope he goes and ups the amount of powerups in a later update.

Also really hoping that I can somehow can get the infinite Axe back for Simon...

Morph Ball and Bombs being separate for Samus is absolutely f***ing silly. Morph Ball is next to useless without bomb and it's not particularly great with it either.

Alright, other initial reactions:

Sophia III: Has to collect Wall Climb instead of having it default. This doesn't include climbing under the platforms. Not sure if that's another powerup or just gone. No default hover is huge. I assume you can still collect it. Hovering is by far the best ability as long as you aren't doing an All Hammer Bros. run (assuming that cheat is still in).

Link: Still has the Boomerang by default and won't lose it if he takes a hit while carrying a mushroom.

Bill: Laser and Flamethrower seem absolutely f***ing atrocious.

Ryu: No default throwing stars. Each powerup will give him less overall than a fireflower in the last game (windmill shuriken + large sword). Powerups can drop from enemies now. I could actually see him improving if his potential is raised enough by the extra variety.

Randomness of powerups beyond the mushroom seems like it's going to hurt in general, especially when used to be default and new but crappy powerups are subject to it.

Dante being the new user of the year is fad. As such, it very obviously is extremely moddable. Honestly, you should've been suspended. MAYBE if you're lucky and SBallen is in a good mood you could be spared from your oh so deserved.

Also, it's false. Anyone partaking in this fad is a huge jerk because they're taking attention away from the actual new users, who are always the best users. Seriously, this place is so cliquey. You're all sad enough that you feel the need to have some ridiculous, harmful conspiracy of a fad to keep out all the amazing new users who COULD be coming here, but instead opt to go to more welcoming boards. We're shooting ourselves in the foot, people. In 5 years we're all going to be old, pessimistic, secluded jerks who want everyone else to go away. There is a speed goal in Shantae in a portrait you get at the end of your game, so if you think you might go for that you should probably stick to the DS version.

Shantae is definitely the best eshop game right now. It's DSiware, but whatever.

Mighty Switch Force is awesome but if you're not going to try to beat the par times for the levels it won't be worth the money for how long it is, imo. Just expect a decent challenge in trying to speed through the levels.

Pushmo is pretty cool and has a pretty large amount of puzzles.

Link's Awakening is always absolutely f***ing amazing. Super Mario Land 2 is great too, but there isn't a whole lot else on the VC right now.

Pretty sure hot oil is the better choice. Think there would be a pretty low chance of death or lasting injuries eventually resulting in death from that where the frozen steak to the head seems like it could very well kill me outright, if not give me a concussion with seriously damaging lasting effects.

Just about all the battle mechanics in the game were linked to the touch screen, microphone, two screens, or whatever, but it still had enough depth to it and was still extraordinarily satisfying.

Most other games don't use the gimmicks to that degree (Skyward Sword, for example) or just don't have as much depth to them.

Couple of things I noticed:

Sly 1:

Racing stages are different, probably made easier. IIRC the car that played music was always in first in the PS2 version, but not now...

I want to say that there are more piranhas in the minigames where you have to run them over and use them as fuel to light a bunch of torches.

There's a part of Into the Machine that's different. When you have to hang onto a ring and it takes you to the next area. It's near the safe. I can't entirely remember what was different... I think this was moved to the left somehow?

Apparently some of the Master Thief times were eased. Any specifics?

I'm pretty sure there were one or two other stages that were slightly changed up.

Sly 2:

A bunch of the movies that you got by waiting on an episode and hitting Square when the police badge popped up were removed.

Never played Sly 3 enough to be able to notice differences.
