On the flip-side of that, it's kinda mind-boggling that Daniel Bryan of all people has been one of the best-handled, well-managed talents in the last five years.

(If you're wondering why Bryan gets ahead of Henry when they basically had a very similar year but in reverse of each other, PWI historically values recency as somewhat of a tiebreaker when merits are close. They're trying to sell relevant magazines here!)

Okay so I'm gonna back off my Aries prediction too.
Except in 1997 when they went with Malenko #1 as an experiment, and in 2002 when RVD got #1 by demolishing the midcard when the WWE main event scene was in constant flux and no competition existed (literally it hit the perfect timeframe between the death of WCW and birth of TNA), no one has sniffed that close to #1 without at least holding the top title in their company.
Here are my revised predictions for the Top Nine Wrestlers from American feds. History shows that there's always at least one Japanese guy (or Mexican in the case of Mistico) somewhere in the Top Ten (but no more than two!), so I'm leaving that spot open for people with more knowledge of that subject than me.
#1: CM Punk Most days as a World Champ, most relevant wrestler of the last year, defended the title at Wrestlemania
#2: Bobby Roode Longest World Title reign of the year, won BFG Series, Main Evented BFG
#3: Sheamus Won World Title at Wrestlemania, won Royal Rumble, Can count losses on one hand
#4: Daniel Bryan Won MitB Briefcase, Lengthy reign as Champion, poor first half of period
#5: Austin Aries Longest X-Division Champion ever, status grew continuously throughout period, Can count losses on one hand
#6: Kurt Angle Defended World Title in Main Event of Bound For Glory, 2 Tag Title wins, Lost feud with Storm
#7: Mark Henry Dominated Randy Orton to win and retain Title, Hall of Pain became more than a marketing gimmick, Disappeared in Final Half
#8: Davey Richards Longest title reign of any kind during the year, Carried company during corporate changeover, sparse amount of defenses for most of reign
#9: John Cena 3 quick stints as World Champ during the period, Main Evented Wrestlemania (and most PPVs in which he appeared), More losses than usual for him in a year

World Heavyweight Championship Randy Orton x2 (52 days total) Christian (28 days total) [Intercontinental Champion] Mark Henry (91 days total) Big Show (2 minutes total) [Intercontinental Champion] Daniel Bryan (105 days total) [Money in the Bank Winner] Sheamus (90 days total) [Royal Rumble Winner]
TNA World Championship Mr. Anderson (11 days total) Sting (27 days total) Kurt Angle (72 days total) [2x TNA Tag Team Champion] James Storm (8 days total) [TNA Tag Team Champion] Bobby Roode (248 days total) [TNA Tag Team Champion, Bound For Glory Series Winner]

So taking that into consideration, I can definitely see Sheamus as #4 over Davey. Sheamus was dominant during the period even when he WASN'T Champ, plus he won the Rumble.

They had a bunch of rules about Minor Fouls and Flagrant Fouls and such where accumulating 3 minor fouls or 1 flagrant foul was an automatic DQ (minor fouls were stuff like using the ropes for assistance or stepping outside the ring or an accidental eye poke, etc.)
In the end the only minor foul committed at all was Cole going outside the ring to get O'Reilly after he superkicked him out, and it didn't affect the match at all.

Or I guess if they put the WWE Title MitB Match last they could say Punk vs. Cena > Cena vs. Jericho vs. Show vs. Kane and give PUNK the credit. Maybe!

Well it doesn't change the broadcast rating as long as they're censored, so there would be no hard and fast restriction, but WWE likes to maintain as close to constant PG as they can get so that they can sell the entire product as PG.
Has anyone dropped anything worse than an "ass" though?

I was basically just parsing lists of World Champions and seeing if I actually remembered their debut match (or at least their debut matches for the company they made their name in).

From: SmartMuffin | #148 Jak, how about a list of the Top 10 "famous wrestler debut matches" of all time.
Somewhat tough to quantify given that wrestlers hop from fed to fed but here we go:
Just throwing 10 out there in no true particular order 1.) Undertaker, SvS '90 2.) Rock, SvS '96 3.) Cena, SD '02 4.) Goldberg, Nitro '97 5.) Vince, Rumble '99 (HE WON THE RUMBLE) 6.) Giant, Halloween Havoc '95 (more like infamous) 7.) Bryan, NXT '10 8.) Angle, SvS '99 9.) Edge, Raw '98 (more like infamous) 10.) Christian, Judgment Day IYH (he won a title!)

Velocity was home to awesome matches! True, it's only notable for one Cruiserweight Title change (and in hindsight for featuring Cena vs. Bryan back in '03), but I always looked forward to Velocity.
