Dodge didn't do anything for you guys during the beta? Did you use it right, or just whenever you felt like it?

You watch the NPC's animation, then you dodge. Not that hard.

This isn't as simple when you can't even see what you're fighting due to people and particle effects.

I'm sure large raids when you're fighting one monster will be fine, but even fighting two or three things at a time makes it almost impossible to judge animations. Not to mention, spamming skills on the number row, pressing F1-F5 buttons, trying to navigate your away around the battlefield, and then being expected to double tap dodge while still watching animations? I don't think I have enough fingers or eyes to do it all.

I suspect people will get used to it, but it looks to have a REALLY steep learning curve.

I have a feeling it'll work better at release, but yeah, it was really difficult to find any use for it in most combat situations.

His point about people attacking his mobs is hilarious, but I sort of agree that the Dodge mechanic was pretty useless in the beta. There's already so much going on, dodging just didn't flow well with the combat. But I have a feeling a lot of it was due to the fact that things just aren't polished or balanced at all right now, but I don't think I ever managed to dodge an attack successfully or feel like dodging was helping me out in any way.

We'll have to see I guess.

I wouldn't risk it. Discs can fall out of the tray and get lodged in the interior of the box.

this series needs a rest for a while, or a mechanical overhaul since the combat never changes.

I actually don't think that's a good idea for this series. I mean, yeah, the gameplay would benefit an overhaul, but the fanbase of these games flock to it BECAUSE it's mindless hack and slash that requires no skill. GoW is all about the spectacle, if you add actual challenge or complexity to that you ruin it.

It's basically the Bayformers of the video game industry.

I almost want to agree with this, but I think it's just a little too harsh.

God of War IS all about the spectacle, but the Hack and Slash genre itself is rather mindless. DMC, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, etc, all fall into the same "button mash and dodge" mold, which is perfectly fine. HnS in general is a spectacle based genre.

I'll save my judgement for the demo or a hands on experience.

30 seconds of gameplay isn't enough for me to decide if a game looks fun or not.

Well, my roommate and I are HUGE movie buffs, so we had the most fun with the Random Movie Facts #1. However, we felt that the second and the third were way too easy. You should make another one and keep them sort of vague again. Having actor/director/character names in the facts makes it super easy. Just saying!

We did a bunch of the music related quizzes too. My wife enjoyed those.

But yeah, we plan on doing more tonight probably. We're huge trivia people and we do trivia night every Wednesday, so this stuff is right up our alley.

I was fortunate to have bought a new computer in December, so the game ran swimmingly for me. The thought of it running even better is a nice reason to look forward to the full game.

Okay. So. I definitely got pretty bored with the Beta. I didn't even play at all today. I think it was mostly due to the fact that I knew I was going to lose all this progress. Not to mention that there isn't even a release date and it's just like... alright, I'm playing it.

More realistically though, I didn't really have "fun" with the game at any point this weekend. Sure, I was excited to play it, and played it for a LOT of hours this weekend, but I never found myself having fun. None of the classes really stuck with me, and they all felt pretty bland. I also didn't dig the PVP very much, which is a big problem for me, because I know it's a huge part of the game. I just felt like fights I was in weren't clear enough, and I'd just end up mashing buttons trying to do as much damage as possible.

I also feel like Melee classes in this build of the game were way weaker than ranged classes. I would die constantly in Events because my standard swing would hit 3+ monsters, and they'd all turn to me and beat me down in an instant.

On the positive side, I was really impressed with the mechanics of the combat and character building. Seems like there's a LOT of possibilities for each class.

Overall, I'll give the game another chance once it comes out (I mean, I did pre-purchase after all), but I'm definitely not impressed yet.

I actually feel that way about PVP too. Everyone has so much health, and there's so much going on. I can't ever tell if I'm doing anything.

My mom worked at a toy store when I was in Middle School/High School, and I'd hang out there in the back computer area after school pretty much every day. Whenever someone would come in and ask about video games for their children, all of the staff would direct them to me. During the years of doing that, I helped out Tom Hanks and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Now that I think about it, I guess I picked out a game for Colin Hanks. Huh.

Maybe it's just because I played a Thief first and it was really complicated for a first class.

Guardian is just straight forward support, and I love support classes.

Man, there is seriously so much going on in this game. I have no idea what's happening 90% of the time. I'm just running around, clicking on people and and then... I don't even know.

Got a Thief to level 6 though. Hopefully things get better...

Yeah, my general strategy for groups of enemies was to open with the AOE damage/slow, and then throw spiders. Of course, my dogs were poison dogs (and always active), and every time my Siphon Life thing was down, I'd refresh it.

Never had any problems! I'm excited to get my Poison Witch Doctor going.
