The beginning of Shiki is amazing. It's 'slow' but it's always interesting and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's all a magnificent build-up for what's to come, and the delivery is just something to remember.

What do you find so amazing about it kurtfisto? I'm just curious since so far it's been really uneventful and has way too much eye candy otaku pandering for my liking.

Now that I just watched episode 6 I feel like answering this question now. The main draw the -gatari series has for me is the cast. I am really fond of pretty much everyone at this point, and seeing the characters interact with each other (but mostly Araragi) I just find really amusing, even when the conversation is about something dull and seemingly meaningless. I'm really into characterization by dialogue, and there is plenty of that here, especially with the fantastic job of the voice actors in the way characters speak. Their intonation, diction, and the manner in which their voices define each character is just superb in establishing these characters as really conversational people (and in turn, reaches the audience aka me more effectively). There's more to the actual conversations than the subject being discussed, kind of a meta thing which really draws me further into the characters. Combine all of this with a soundtrack I find really appealing, amazing sound direction, and Shinbo's unique visual directing (which I find artistically impressive) which keeps the viewers (or at least me, I understand it's hit-or-miss) hooked onto the screen and you have what is pretty much one of my top 5 series. I'll admit that the fanservice in Nisemonogatari is more abundant than in Bakemonogatari, but I like to think that it's a lot more tasteful in these series than it is in like, actual ecchi stuff. I like how the characters don't make a big deal out of all the supposed sexual tension lying around anyway.

So you understand I don't really care how 'uneventful' it has been since every interaction is pretty much an event for me already. The -gatari series is one of the few ones that have me constantly glued onto the screen and giving my full attention 100% of the time.

I actually just rewatched Bakemonogatari this past week and I liked it even more than the first time. Glorious show. When the BDs for Nise come out I will probably rewatch it too.
