Adding onto that, Doom 64 was made canon in this lore and bridges the gap between old Doom and new Doom. Someone said that the lore is that he got trapped in hell at the end of Doom 64 and reality got destroyed and reborn by the Maykrs. Said Maykrs "saved" him, and trained him + injected him with godly powers to transform him into the Doom Slayer.
