An even dirtier meta would be looking at the game channel and guessing most scum are currently online, because iirc you cant be online in one server and offline in another. I dont see anything in the rules against looking into this, but it actually does break the game if people are smart enough to notice it.

Just as a cautionary tale, there was a previous game where I neighbored Wallz and afterwards he started doubting my towniness for multiple reasons, but one of those being that I was always online on Discord. I was town, and my discord status just was showing green because I was playing games during the night and was still showing as active.

Meta at your own risk with dumb stuff like this. But I'd rather just not meta at all because stalking people's activity online outside of the game is gross.

Apparently many people read their role PMs thoroughly, rushed to the date discord, pored over the rules and had elaborate game theorizing to do 1 hour into day 1 though

Just saying, this is a needlessly disingenuous way to frame things. Literally at any point during the night, read through your role PM, click the link, read the post that was there, think things over a little when you go to bed. Like there is no urgency or "poring over the rules" going on. Just basic reading of the materiel.

This is dumb and I dislike the whole "people are talking about the novel rules as a crutch" as an argument in any experimental game.

But I also I don't really care and will PROBABLY be around for deadline so I'm okay with whatever.

I feel like this only works if you're making sure everyone else is paired up before then, right Lopen? Feels like a way to guarantee lurkers make it through with no struggle, while guaranteeing a "stronger" player dies.

No, that's only after 1PM on the date of the deadline.

I'm not TOO worried about this, because I think it's the point of the scenario. People without partners are incentivized to speak up and try to get partnered up, because they can't just idle out if someone else is more suspicious than them.

I do agree that means on future days, it is better to not leave it to the last minute, to force people's hands earlier.

Maybe. I guess I get it. I'm thinking of a situation where 2 people would be left without dating, but that would automatically exclude a third person, which is the extra step I wasn't thinking of.

Hypothetical #2. Dumey plans to date Death. Ulti plans to date MZero. Both Death and MZero aren't around at end of day, so Dumey and Ulti date out of self-preservation, and Death and MZero are both left dateless because we planned it too late in the day.

Two people left with no date and die.

Both of the hypotheticals involve some human error, which is probably why Chang didn't factor it in. But humans gonna human, you know?

You just described a situation that covers 6 people (an even amount) But if we look at even today they would be 9 others and there would be 4 pairs and an odd man out from the other 9.

That scenario you just described works result in THREE deaths instead of 1, and still make the following day odd.

It would be human error, but it's still not the craziest thing to imagine that some deadline fuckery happens!

Pray tell how do you intend to do leave two people unpaired when the rules basically state that every day will always have an odd number of players... and thus there can only ever be an odd number of players without a partner.

Though I do wonder what happens if more than one player ends up single at the end of the day.

Hypothetical scenario, both Kirby and MZero try to date me, it's up to me to choose one of them, and leave the other dead.
Then Sultan and Ulti both try to date Chris, and it's up to Chris to choose one of them, and leave the other dead.

It would be possible for both of the people unpaired to save themselves by dating each other at the last moment, but with deadlines and everything, not always easy to pull off.

I had some early thoughts about the setup upon reading the rules in the discord. One, the idea of confirming only one night kill per night to ensure there is always an odd number alive during the day seems easy to play around if we simply leave two people undated at end of day. Then we're on an even number. I don't really think it matters because we'd likely want to use our "lynch" power to exclude someone every day anyways, but it just seemed like a weird rule inclusion when it would be so easy to break anyway if we actually wanted to.

Inactive players are naturally more at risk of not finding a partner unless they partner up with each other in the times they are available. Unless we specifically try to rescue them.

It seems like there could be a chaotic scenario where two people try to date the same person, and who ends up dying is up to that one single person to decide who they date back. It's probably always preferable to avoid this and just have town decide as a whole who should end up unpaired. But I was trying to think if there was ever an advantage to setting up a trepid love triangle like this on purpose.

But I wanted to date Peaf immediately. :(
