it's based on the kind of item that hits you. boomerang, fireballs, iceballs, bananas etc are light hits, shells and stuff are normal, star collusion is heavy, etc. getting "combo'd" over and over and being removed from the race instantly is my single biggest gripe with the game

I swear I've hit people directly with a shell, and the distance between us stays the same. I really do think you gotta combo people, or hit them while they are doing something. I wonder if hitting a drifting target increases recovery

Kinda funny to see the reactions to items before release and post release. People were complaining that they weren't effective enough like the lightning lasting super short or how the blue shell is super easy to avoid and now people are saying they're too effective lol

I think the item balance is fine. Chaos is the entire point. Most items have a counter and if you're not traveling a lead with some defense on you then you're fuckin up

As far as items

Mushroom/ Triple Mushroom is great
Dash food is like mushroom, but is often not worth going about your way to reach. It's ok
Gold Mushroom is godlike, although if you are off-road and you lose it, RIP
Green Shell is Green Shell
Red Shell is Red Shell, but it sucks having someone collide into you and you lose 2 or all of the shells. Also Boomerang deletes Triple Shells

Gold Shell is great, especially if you can capitalize on it
Blue Shell is Blue Shell, no real issues. Maybe a bigger blast radius or add a crater?
Bombs? Forward toss fucking sucks, it takes too long. It's supposed to be a proximity mine. back toss is great
Coins are coins, ? block Coins are ok. Id prefer it give you 10 coins, or 5 and a shroom

Ghost is ghost
Boomerang fucks, best weapon to have. Destroys shells, up to 3 uses, back toss is great, forward toss is great
Lightning is great when I use it <_< otherwise it fucking sucks. People stay shrunk for like half a second. It's main use is deleting everyones items, so if you can use it after a group passes the boxes, you are clear.
Mega Mushroom is ok. The narrower the path the better

Banana is banana
Hammers, seems good, but I dunno, it looks like it can block paths for a bit, but it's very brief. Need more info
Bullet Bill is ok, it's really dependent on when you use it and if everyone is clustered up

The Fire/Ice Flower is ok. Not sure if there is a difference
Feather... I've dodge a red shell with it, so it's good. Not sure about blue shells. Feels like a situational item, that you'll rarely come by, on top of it being a uncommon item

Star actually sucks, I can't believe it. It barely lasts and it doesn't really make you go faster, just allows you to off road and stay invincible
Blooper is super rare, I've seen it maybe 3 times across 50+ races. Hard to say how good it is, but with this many hazards it's gotta be at least good

Kamek is Blue Shell but very reasonable. Reminds me of the item is Sonic Racing Transformed. Meant to slow you down without actually hitting you, and it lingers for others to be effected by it. If you are skilled you'll stay in first where you belong

In conclusion, Mushrooms/ Boomerang is the best weapon

My guess for lower invincibility time is that usually when you get hit the first time, you don't really lose much speed at all, and you keep pace, but if you get hit a second time shortly after, you lose a ton of speed

It's better to combo people

Im starting to realize multi tricking on rails is worse than simply holding it and reaching max charge

on that note, the downwards snowhill section, and whats essentially a mushroom golden gate bridge have rails that last like 30+ seconds...and they friggin SUCK. You lose so much speed and position, its not worth it at all. They really need to make it faster or put a one-of-a-kind special item

reminder that only Nintendo has decent presentations. For some reason all the other companies dont know how to keep it even remotely interesting, and it ends up being a waste of time, even for games you are anticipating

Its pretty good. Ive only played Online Knockout Tour

+ Music is pretty good, def a vibe while racing. Fucking love the buildup when you barely make it to the next phase, and the next song blasts like you overcame the odds (you probably did)
+ I actually like the travel to the next track (In Knockout), allows for
+ Barely qualifying is a constant high. Music exemplifies this feeling. Its so good, that not winning 1st doesnt really feel bad, just surviving is its own reward
+ Gold Mushroom and Boomerang, my favs, feels like the best Items to have

- Not the biggest fan of the final lap section. Its feels WAYYYYY too short. The segments on the way have plenty of wiggle room to steal and make a comeback, but by the time the last lap starts, you got roughly 30 seconds to turn it around, and you probably dont have any good items to change it
- Im sure there are 8 Cups, but ive done at least 25+ races, and ive only seen 3, maybe 4
- boosts, rail riding, and tricks dont make you go that much faster if at all. I honestly next to no ground covered compared to someone who doesnt, unless its a bigger jump.

- Knockout feels like 100cc, with the occasional 150cc segment. There are certain parts where it doesnt feel like you are going fast enough unless you use a mushroom or boost pad
- Lightning, Star, Bob-omb, and triple shells are kinda bad

Spiny Rally the best rally, followed by Heart

Off roading is super important, and you wont get far without it

right now, ill give it a 8.5 based entirely on Knockout Tour. They just need to buff some options and speed

I dunno. I pick Toadette and the standard kart, and everything feels fine. Ice, dirt, and water seems to handle well.

I feel like you don't go fast enough on straightaway rails to warrant using them. That and many aren't long enough

For 80 bucks at this phase, yeah it might not be worth it.

But 50? its pretty good so far and Ive literally only played Knockout Tour so far. I dont play online much anymore beyond the occasional fighting game, so I anticapte this being the ideal 'pick up and play' game mode.

Im in a race within 2 mins from turning on the console and after its over im in the next race in around a minute.

Aint no better feeling than sniping a position at the last second and continuing the race in knockout Tour

Legit made 20th, 16th, 12th, 8th, and 4th to qualify, and won 2nd

Probably won't be able to watch much if any of it. Can someone @ me if a New Tales or FF9 shows up, please?
