IANAL, but this looks like legal clown honking noises to me. It's basically an argument that the evidence presented to the jury could not conceivably have been enough for a guilty verdict, therefore the jury necessarily fucked it up. LOL at that shit, in a case where the defense had nothing except "spray and pray" as their strategy.

I am also not a lawyer but I feel like a criminal defendant can't be expected to come armed with rebuttals to every possible piece of false testimony a witness could offer?

I mean I of course agree Trump's defense basically amounted to a wet fart since the facts were blindingly obvious, but this would be the worst possible result of putting Cohen on the stand, given he's not a credible witness in the first place and only served to corroborate other evidence anyway.

It depends on the appeals court judge. New York state allows you to request release pending appeal but it isn't mandatory.
