Yeah, the cynic inside me isn't expecting much but it seems pressure is at least making them offer Nex the basic respect of his identity.
At least the feds are going to investigate after the locals are done.

Right now it still looks like he died from head injuries sustained from the attack, and likely had some internal bleeding in the brain. People can get these kinds of injuries and feel fine for a day, then collapse dead later as the bleeding continues. There are numerous accounts of this happening, and why it's so important to get checked by a doctor after a head injury or concussion.

That would need to be prosecuted with some kind of murder charge, like gross indifference to life resulting in negligent homicide or manslaughter.

Maybe if you read the article, you will understand better. Many people have been misgendering him, and this is super common for trans people early in transition and/or trans kids to be frequently misgendered.

FYI, being non-binary doesnt mean someone uses they/them pronouns. Pronouns =/= gender

Another update, surprise surprise

Authorities havent ruled out that a fight at school could have contributed to the death of Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old transgender student whose case has drawn international media attention.

Owasso police said in a statement last week that preliminary information from the medical examiners office indicated that Benedict did not die as a result of trauma. The police department added that further comments on Benedicts cause of death were pending until toxicology results are released.

Some community members and others on social media took the departments statement to mean that any potential injuries Benedict sustained from the fight didnt cause his death. However, Lt. Nick Boatman, a police spokesperson, told NBC News on Tuesday that that wasnt what the statement was intended to mean.

We did not interpret that in any way, he said of the word trauma, which he said was used by the medical examiners office. He said that the medical examiners office didnt say it had ruled out the fight as causing or contributing to Benedicts death and that people shouldnt make assumptions either way.

They're nouns formed from adjectives. Like 'female'.

(Not that I'm defending referring to women as 'females', by the way. I agree that's cringe. But the idea that it's cringe because of grammatical considerations is just braindead.)

And actually, now that I look into it, 'female' was arguably a noun long before it was an adjective. It's derived from Latin femina, a noun meaning 'woman'.
No, still off base. It can be problematic because it can be dehumanizing and othering, or downright misogynistic. This isnt about grammatical considerations.

Pick any number of other groups and do the same, whether that's transgender, black, etc.

This isn't something crazy or difficult to understand, and widely regarded as inappropriate. Though that still doesn't stop people from using language in this manner, just as in this thread we have people complaining about the grammar police in so many words.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

If youve been reading the thread, you would notice the use of the word female is not inherently problematic. Thats not what is at issue here.

The difference is in using it as noun instead of an adjective.

Im female or I am female is not problematic. Using it as a noun, however, reduces the person down to a trait (that being female.) This is where some people or guys regularly refer to women as females, or saying are you a female versus are you female?

Theres nothing wrong with the word female, its the usage of othering and dehumanizing that comes from using it as a noun instead of an adjective to refer to people.

Conservatives and both siders will continue to misrepresent the discussion as woke liberals screeching about how the word female is banned.

Opinions aren't all equal and neither is all universities and studies. There are many things that wasn't studied in a university until it was, and there are many things that might not ever be studied.

Citing a particular university doesn't change there's a plethora of people like red pillers using the word "women" in a derogatory and negative context to refer to things they don't like about what a woman says or does.

That's why I said agree to disagree. We aren't going to see eye to eye on this particular point.
Like toxic masculinity? That is another driving force behind referring to women as females and saying stuff like dont cry, stop acting like a girl as misogyny.

Literally look up any online dictionary and you'll see the second usage of male is as a noun to denote a male creature.
Dictionaries have information about words that we use. You can look up slurs and all sorts of stuff. This is absent some context.

The point being missed is that in many or most context, using female as a noun is frequently dehumanizing and othering towards women or girls, and perpetuates misogyny. This is not every context from the usage of a word, like a biology teacher talking about animals or creatures.

I addressed everything you said earlier in the topic already.

Personally I wouldn't have even gotten to a 4th.

But we do know she isnt willing to volunteer to pay at least according to the TC. According to the TC she never offers, and on top of that makes an effort to avoid paying. Not even bothering to offer is still bad, and assuming a precedence the other person will pay is no better.

Ultimately this comes down to how bad does the TC like this girl and want to make this work. If he does, then he needs to communicate to her. If he doesn't, I'm not sure why he's still with her. Personally I think it says a lot to be with anyone who doesn't even bother to offer to pay for their own things and just assumes you're paying. To just sit there and assume I'm paying because I paid the last 1, 2, or 3 times is not the type of people I hang around.

I don't care who asked who out. If you need compensation to hang out with me, then simply don't hang out with me.

Luckily my family, friends, and the girl I'm currently with is not like this. We will go dutch sometimes, sometimes we will offer to pay the whole bill, but thankfully no one in my circle just assumes they don't have to bring their wallet.
Why get yourself all worked up into a tizzy like this when you can simply say something like, "separate checks please."
