Yep. Freedom of speech is being seriously restricted. What's accepted 10 years from now is gonna be much less than what we're used to

I was taught how this worked in college and didn't believe it would happen so soon and so fast.

2011: Megaupload goes down

2017: Net Neutrality disappears

2020: Algorithms impact censorship through monetization

2024: Sex Board closes down at Gamefaqs

Seriously happened very quickly and every decision made a small group of people a ton of money. We pissed and moaned for a long time but we eventually started paying for streaming services, using bad search engines, saying "unalived" and using the Thread Zone.

there were massive BLM protests DURING COVID, including the one where Rittenhouse killed a dude.
They weren't close to being as impactful as this in terms of scale, potential influence and number of people involved, wouldn't you agree? Don't you think this is a "bigger protest" overall?

1/6, abortion rights, the protests we've had since COVID began are small potatoes compared to this. People died during 1/6 but we aren't hearing that in the US yet in regards to these protests. That's a good thing, I think.

emblem-man posted...
Yeah there's been no indication of any violence from the protestors. Just so stupid to enflame the situation by having the cops move in.
Pro-Israel folk are probably calling the police and university and indicating they feel unsafe. It's possible for that to be true and the protesters to also be non-violent. If that's the case police being present makes sense

I'm saying is this isn't as bad as it could be. This isn't Kent State, Ferguson after Michael Brown or Charlottesville. Not yet at least. I've seen worse in the last decade. Is it still unacceptable? Maybe. I been watching this since Feb and I think the protesters and police have done a good job even though things have gotten worse over there. I've seen both sides be terrible at what they do. We aren't seeing police cars getting flipped over or riots yet.

I think what's different is protesters have mostly taken place during Ramadan and many of the Muslim protesters are great at showing restraint and encouraging others to do so.

My bad that does read a little crazy

I'm saying we haven't seen large scale protests since George Floyd mostly due to the way COVID works. Hong Kong's opposition to coming under Chinese rule in 2019 was the last full-scale protest we've seen since COVID began. I'm saying that because we haven't seen a serious protest on a national scale since then it hits a bit harder than it does otherwise. But I don't believe police are necessarily in the wrong for keeping the peace because Jewish people and Zionists do attend the school and their safety should be taken into account.

People have been opposed to protesting on a large scale because a lot of protesters have gotten sick during the George Floyd protests.

It's not really insane

I'm on the side of the protesters but it's normal for this kind of thing to happen.

Since Hong Kong, COVID has been a huge deterrent for these kinds of protests. The same people yelling and holding up signs in large groups will be sniffling and feverish in the next few days. They then either stop protesting or spread their sickness to other like-minded people. Happened during the George Floyd protests and that was pre-vaccine.

Lol. It's more like we're never gonna get it on a large scale so making plans to pay them out may be a good idea. Student loan Payments starting back actually set me back a great deal until I signed up for grad school through my job to freeze them again. I think my strategy was unusual but elegant.

The fact I was able to settle my private loans for around 40% may help people looking at big numbers make them smaller. Private companies will settle with you if you default.

The Government loans are very difficult to get rid of and they got in the way of me building a house in 2021 (when stuff was cheaper) so getting them out of the way can help others in this BS housing market we live in. Even if you don't plan on building a home it will help with your long-term credit.

44K in private loans and 23K in Government Loans. Settled private loans in 2018 for 16K over 13 months. Defaulted and let the bank know how little I was making at the time. They made me an offer and I took it and lived in squalor until completing the agreement in Jan of 2020.

Government Loans couldn't be settled of course. Had $12,500 when COVID ended and payments restarted. Started Grad School (freezes payments), Worked my ass off at my sales job, and paid $13,748.91 in 6 months. Probably never taking another grad school class again.

I could have done so much with the money and it's set me back a great deal. My college girlfriend left me due to my financial strife and how long it would take. She believed I could do it but she just couldn't afford to wait, I had to abandon the line of work I truly valued because it didn't pay enough, I've lived at home this entire time and my schoolmates and local friends have written me off as a loser because I haven't progressed as they have. But it's definitely possible to pay them off. Allow me to be an example.

School policy is used as a wedge used to force open a door for further measures, and he is openly stating the goal is to eventually just end this behavior from existing in the state.

first its creating a greater perception in the public, normalizing that this isnt something socially acceptable around children or schools with (adult teachers, staff, etc) to be transgender or gender nonconforming (GNC.)

Thats a hop skip away from saying not at work or other public places period, essentially forcing trans and GNC people out of the public with these escalating attacks. It began with children, where Texas made it illegal for medical providers to give gender affirming care to minors the past few years.
Agreed.

This is very similar to cochlear implant debates in the deaf community or conversations around the discovery of Down Syndrome in prenatal screenings. For example, I have epilepsy and there's an argument that people who have epilepsy/down syndrome/deafness at birth should never be born and should not exist in the future. Not because they can't survive in society or modern medicine can't treat them, but because their existence makes things difficult for the powers that be.Of course that puts people living with those conditions currently in a tough spot. They're being told they don't have a future in society.

This is a Eugenics argument I believe. Since COVID, there's been a serious effort to force people who aren't having kids to the edges of society because of our falling birth rate. Trans, GNC and people with permanent disabilities are seen as future burdens to society because they're unlikely to reproduce. The abortion debate plays in to this.

Texas is fucking over a ton of people medically for financial reasons more than anything, make no mistake. It's not really a LGBT issue imo. As bad and dangerous as the rhetoric is around trans-folk, understand that people with disabilities, people who had Medicaid, kids of minorities, kids whose parents don't work, are all on the chopping block in Texas as well as other states with similar values. The aim is to push trans people out of the state so they won't vote in the upcoming election.

Please vote if you live in TX, even if you disagree with me.

As someone who has settled it's a rough thing to do because in a way you aren't fully committing to the relationship. You're selfishly being with someone you aren't attracted to pursue your own happiness.

I agree with TC that acceptance is an important part of a relationship and there's too little of it in the early part of the dating process. But accepting someone you aren't excited about being with is a waste of your time and more importantly a waste of their time.

Noticed this with my perpetually single sister. I believe her mistake isn't having high standards but never being friends with guys she actually enjoyed going out with. She can't keep a man longer than a month because she expects fireworks and a first date effort every time. As soon as the guy starts relaxing, she's out the door seeking someone who tries harder for her affection.

With guys it's the opposite. They don't actually enjoy dating and seek the comfort of the relationship above everything. But you always have to date your GF or wife. You're always supposed to be courting her. The comfort you receive is your reward for doing right by her.

I'm jealous of that pace and that weather.

It is now sweltering in the South. Rode this morning and had to keep riding just to stay kind of cool. Went to the doctor yesterday and my labs were excellent. This time in January I had high liver enzymes and my cholesterol and blood pressure were bad. Now blood pressure is 128/72 (post-exercise, pulse was high I kinda cheated) and every other number is within the good to excellent range.

Reduction of alcohol, steady cardio and weights along with Huel meal replacements really helped me. Also lost 10 pounds in those three months and there's a lot of progress to be had.
