Topic | What's your favorite country and why is it Japan? |
Glob 05/17/24 11:17:26 PM #59 | SpiritSephiroth posted... Its not outright bigoted. But you can feel that you won't be "one of them". Just like every other culture, such as Arab culture, Pakistani/Indian culture and even Korean. Its not exclusive to Japan. Yeah, while its true that youll never be seen as Japanese if youre a foreigner, almost all countries have a similar mindset and I find it strange that Japan gets called out for it so often. |

Topic | How likely is it for anyone to buy a house in a high cost of living area? |
Glob 05/17/24 8:43:12 PM #51 | DarthAragorn posted... No, it's you thinking "oh anyone can do it why don't they just do it are they stupid" just because you did it, which is dumb as fuck and it's getting worse every time you defecate all over your keyboard and post ITT. And there you go again, making shit up. I never claimed that everybody should do it. In fact, Ive acknowledged that its not for everybody. The problem here is that your mindset is getting you to assume that Im trying to offer some kind of magic bullet that solves the entire problem for everybody, probably because youve spent so much time on boards like this that you think every conversation is about trying to win. I have never, nor would I ever, claim that everybody should just leave their home country. All Ive suggested is that if your fortunes are poor in your country, it may be worth looking into living elsewhere. And you know what? Thats undeniably true, because for some people it works. You have such a fixed mindset that all you can do is be combative about it and point at situations where it wont work, which doesnt negate what Im saying at all. Theres loads of reasons why moving abroad might be a bad idea for somebody. Family ties, demographics, career, skill set, criminal convictions or whatever else. Ive never denied any of that. That doesnt mean that it cant be a good idea for some people, which is all my original comment was talking about. Youve been rude and abrasive and continually try to suggest that Im an idiot, yet you have lower reading comprehension levels than the kids I teach. Despite this, Ive been very patient with you. |
Topic | What's your favorite country and why is it Japan? |
Glob 05/17/24 8:34:34 PM #47 | -BrokenSpiral- posted... I mean, I believe it. Most foreigners who come here are socially fucked and can't make friends unless they're other foreigners, or a leftover man/woman and their family that they married. I totally agree about all your points about Singapore. However, the thing that drags it down for me is that its expensive as fuck. |
Topic | What's your favorite country and why is it Japan? |
Glob 05/17/24 8:16:18 PM #38 | Japan is not my favourite, but its probably in my top 5. |
Topic | How likely is it for anyone to buy a house in a high cost of living area? |
Glob 05/17/24 8:09:25 PM #49 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] As somebody who moved from a high cost of living area in the UK to a low cost of living area in Vietnam, Id say Ive got a better read of it than you guys have. Literally nothing youve said to attempt to refute my original statement has been of any value. |
Topic | Money |
Glob 05/17/24 12:14:54 PM #45 | Susanowo posted... It depends where you live; in some cities here, it is a bad idea to walk around with more than $50 whereas in some places, it is perfectly okay to walk around town with more than $5000. Having a credit card is great and all but sometimes, some places just don't accept it and it could be a restaurant and they can accuse you of dine and dash. If you use your debit card, it isn't secure enough as that there is a small chance all the money in your bank account and vanish into thin air. That's why cash is important in life wherever you are. Umwhat? What country do you live in that banks dont cover you against financial fraud as standard? |
Topic | $5k a month to NOT work, or $50K a month to work 12 hour days |
Glob 05/17/24 11:54:20 AM #238 | Revelation34 posted... It says before retiring. Retiring is not the same thing as quitting. In this context, yes it is. Retirement doesnt always mean claiming a pension. Im a retired athlete, for example. Its abundantly clear in the opening post that part of choosing option 2 is accepting that you must do the job for a minimum of 5 years. |

Glob 05/16/24 7:04:14 PM #46 | TendoDRM posted... Yes, this is very useful information for the people working at my local Target. I'll go let them know that if they're having trouble affording rent, they should apply for international jobs in Vietnam or wherever. And thats moving the goalposts. But I never suggested it was a solution that works for everybody. Youve assumed a whole lot here and changed what were talking about in an effort to make my comment seem ridiculous. If youve had to do that, it cant have been all that ridiculous in the first place. DarthAragorn posted... What the actual fuck do you think this topic is about People who cant afford to buy a house because theyre expensive in the place they live. |
Topic | How likely is it for anyone to buy a house in a high cost of living area? |
Glob 05/16/24 6:43:31 PM #42 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Not being able to buy a house is not the same as not being able to afford housing. Theres also the fact that a lot of jobs that hire people internationally will pay for your flights and your housing. Its clearly something that youre dismissing because you know nothing about it. Ive got experience of doing it. |

Glob 05/16/24 6:41:23 PM #19 | Cupcake2006 posted... No real trick or secret unfortunately (if you find one, tell me). Set a bunch of google flight trackers and you'll be able to get yourself down to at least a small fortune rather than a large fortune. But you're absolutely right, the flight alone cost me more than nine nights at a decently nice but basic hotel (think like a mid-tier Mariott). Granted, I did splurge for Premium Select on Delta, but that was only an additional $400. Flight was still around $1,200 for basic seats. And with how weak the yen is right now (or even in normal conversions), everything is insanely cheap too. 6000 yen (around $40) covered the subway for the entire trip. You can certainly get by not spending a huge amount. Its also possible to spend loads quite easily. I spent $800 on strawberries last time I went. |

Glob 05/16/24 6:38:41 PM #79 | Enclave posted... What authoritarian shit hole of a country do you live in where you're not innocent until proven guilty? There is a difference between the state presuming somebody innocent until proven guilty and a bunch of nerds speculating on a message board. That difference being that our views on the case dont actually impact anybodys freedom. Assuming that the police are lying on the basis that sometime police lie is illogical. We should be open to the possibility that the police have lied, because we know that can happen. We should also be open to the possibility that the person accused of committing a crime has lied, because we know that can happen. |

Glob 05/16/24 11:11:58 AM #62 | Enclave posted... What's ridiculous about wanting proof before believing something? Do you think cops don't lie? Thats not actually the stance that youve presented though. Your stance seems to be that the cops are automatically lying unless there is proof otherwise, whereas the teenager is automatically telling the truth unless there is proof otherwise. |

A lie is knowingly telling a falsehood. That doesnt go against anything I said. Testimony is unreliable, whether it comes from a cop or not. |

From my very brief research, that alone seems like it'll be more than half the cost of the entire trip. Also, how prevalent were English speakers at restaurants and such? Can you really get by on Google Translate for everything? Depends where youre flying from. Its quite a reasonable flight for me, but not for most of the users of this site. Ive been twice now and basically speak no Japanese. It was never a major issue. |
