There's a decent chance that it encourages more of his supporters to turn out and vote. It feeds into the narrative that he has successfully managed to cultivate among his base that the system is "rigged" and that he's being "targeted" by "unfair" investigations and accusations.

On paper this seems like it should weaken his position substantially, but historically, nothing that should weaken Trump's support has ever actually done so. I'm just saying, now is the time to remember that focusing on "Trump is a convicted felon!" as an argument isn't actually going to dissuade the people who still support him.

Don't neglect the other factors. Don't fixate on this one thing. It's not a silver bullet.

I was a public defender for six years. This is one of the many reasons I am not a PD any more. The job sucks. Your clients are always doing incredibly stupid shit, no matter what you tell them. And you have to stand there looking like an idiot.

I am not going to get into stories-I dont talk about cases I did even in vague terms because I am paranoid that way. But I can tell you that I had clients show up for court doing stuff even dumber than this. Not just once or twice either.

Yeah, I just want convictions from this trial. I want him to go to prison for the January 6th stuff, the Georgia RICO case, and the classified documents case.

I still don't really know how a prison sentence would even work for him since he has secret service protection, but I'm willing to watch them find out. I'm still skeptical that he would go to prison if convicted in any of the cases, but we'll see.

I don't think it'd be all that hard. They'd just clear out a wing of some minimum security joint and secret service would take shifts posted up there. Feel like it'd be a pretty cushy gig for them, unless they are into the traveling around and actual hints of danger.

I'd temper expectations on any possible sentencing. A lawyer who worked on Trump's first impeachment analyzed cases brought in NY where falsifying business records in the first degree (the charge Trump is facing 34 counts of) was the most serious charge brought against a defendant - it only resulted in jail about 1 in 10 times.

Should Trump be found guilty I would expect probation and nothing more.

Democratic voters have many different groups within it and have a tendency to not think long term, and so will a. Not vote in off year elections and b. Look for excuses to not vote because they didn't get 100% of what they wanted.

This allows republicans to get into positions of power to cover for each other's corruption because they won't be voted out.
