I've been reading through some stuff about pre-Columbian Mexican tamales. It's common for people to act as if lard is an essential ingredient when that didn't exist for probably thousands of years of tamal consumption. The only fat they likely would have had is whatever seeped into the masa from the animal and the game animals eaten were nowhere near as fatty as the pigs today, or even the ones Spaniards brought. I don't really have a point with any of this other than it's funny how things change over time.

Yeah this is very much a ground floor thing right now. I guess the idea is to support them long enough to improve so there's more competition for Nvidia and AMD to incentivize whatever and all that. It was just the most bang for my buck atm.

Just shave your head, dude. Less side effects that way. LOL
I know lots of people who take it and have no side effects.

Now, here's the thing, I get the side effects of and have allergies to all kinds of shit. I'm probably going to get side effects from this, but I'm willing to give it a shot precisely because I'm fucking allergic to shaving my head.

Every time I shave my head, I have a huge outbreak of folliculitis that is ugly, painful, and takes weeks to resolve. By the time it does, it's time to shave my head again. I've tried every single thing to prevent and treat it and it always happens. Dermatologist gave me a list of shit to do to keep it from happening and the only thing that works is being on antibiotics. Guess how I handle antibiotics?

I probably will have side effects but the only thing I have to lose at this point is one last option before I accept that I'll just have a fucked up scalp that forces me to be in balding guy limbo forever.

I remember someone else on CE trying to rehab a baby possum that also didn't make it. These baby animal stories are a bummer. I'd rather hear more like the guy that saved a drowning bear cub
The facility I work at takes in a few thousand animals a year and the vast majority of them make it.

We had around three dozen successful releases this week, most of them animals who came in as orphaned babies. I also have a few dozen other opossums ready for release in the next couple of weeks.

This one just hit harder because he was "my" project. I did the intake, triaged him, and had total control of him. These other guys bounced around from the facility at work to other rehabbers before coming to me until it's time for release, so they're a little less personal I guess.

Someone brought him into work (animal sanctuary) a couple of weeks ago because of bait box poisoning and no one thought he would make it at first, but he improved quite a bit in the day after intake. Sometimes they can turn around and end up just fine, and he really had us thinking he would make it. I was allowed to bring him home to give him extra attention and it worked. He was growing and looking really good.

Then yesterday, he got really lethargic and didn't have any life in him. Baby opossums are really good at clinging, that's how they survive with their mother, but he just kind of slid off of everything and had no fight in him. I went to feed him tonight and found him warm but not moving. He probably went not long before I got to him.

He was the first animal I've been in charge of from the beginning and it sucks because it's not anything I did anything wrong. Sometimes there are longer term effects of poisoning that we can't see or do anything about even if we can. I know I did the best I could and it was an uphill battle but it still feels really bad.

I'll keep doing this work in hopes of helping animals but I did have this really brief but really intense moment of nihilism and anger about people recklessly using poison for pest control. I can really understand why people who work with animals have a high rate of burnout and mental health issues. This sucks.

It also doesn't help that I overdid my preworkout and am amped the fuck up lmao

RIP little dude

There's a song that sounds incredibly familiar to this and I cannot for the life of me figure it out.

It's particularly the way he sings the lines

Oh no what if I never knew your name
Oh my god, the thought's insane
What if your love is not the same
As it seems inside my brain
What if you're not really in my sheets
Oh, oh just the thought gives me the creeps

but a lot of the song sounds just like another song and it's bugging the crap out of me groan emoji

I was a NEET until 30, largely because of C-PTSD and undiagnosed ADHD. I just ask myself what dwelling on the past ever got me. Spoilers nothing good.

That time is gone, regardless of what I did or didn't do with it, hated or loved about it, gained or lost from it. It's over and I won't get it back, which used to be absolutely heart-wrenching, but I still have the present and the future that I don't want to let go by like that. I'm screwing up what time I have left by agonizing over what has already passed. Now I focus on the present so I can have a better future and the past doesn't seem that important anymore.

Also, I felt like I wasted all that time but I look back on it now and am retroactively learning lessons I was incapable of realizing at the time. It's probably not as empty as you think.
