I think we've reached a juncture where the amount of people unable and unwilling to differentiate between "this thing that happened in this scene is horrible, I wonder how it's going to be dealt with" and "this thing that happened in this scene is horrible and therefore the writer should be killed" is reaching critical mass.

The inability to seperate fiction from reality is something that may requires therapy in some circumstancea, but instead they wear it like a badge of honor. They think these characters are real people that should have rights.

If it's not a problem until the next game then I imagine I'll have plenty of time.

Gkids picking up a seasonal anime before it even airs is pretty wild. As far as I'm aware the only time they've ever done a new TV release period was that Ghibli show from several years back. Everything else has been legacy shows, movies, or some kind of special.

I've based the last 5 years of my take on how this game feels to play based on what the game implies was the baby easy version of the controls feeling like shit.

Just couldn't get super into it with the near voiceless Gacha MC, though. Animation was on point.

There really isn't anything else like Konosuba, as shocking as that is. The execution of humor to that level while still having that heart underneath it is an extremely challenging balance, most things that try just aren't that funny. Even Konosuba's own spinoff show couldn't get there.

Just from a humor standpoint alone though I think Asobi Asobase can reach similar levels of gut busting at times, almost entirely on the backs of it's unrivaled vocal performances. There is....absolutely NO heart underneath it though, lol.

If you really were trying to get something that hit those balances well, I legitimately think the closest you'll get is Love is War, despite them being so disimilar.

It feels like the multimedia experience of following along with JELEE social media accounts alongside the show is a pretty engaging part of the experience, shame that it's not something that can be easily followed along with in English, at least not live.

I still would not say the show is bad or anything. There was actually some really great stuff this episode comedy wise. However it suffers both from being in a stacked season and maybe pushing down on the gas too hard with how random it gets, even as someone who is pro random bullshit.

Again, the closest actual comparison to this show in terms of character personalities and absurdity is Asobi Asobase, and this show is NOT Asobi Asobase.

Also, I always watch Spice and Wolf immediately afterwards, and like....come on.

Yes. Basically they overthought what to do with it for far too long (one of the TLs said they went back and for on over a dozen options and came out with one he didn't agree with), and what came out of the side was maybe the worst possible answer they could have ended up with, and self admittedly made up from scratch in order to "prepare for potential backdown in a future episode", to which the near universal response has been....well that would be the show's responsibility, not yours.

There were even just some simple disagreements on what certain phrases imply in English itself, changing what literally translates to something like "I really do love you" to "I love you as a person", to which their Discord response was "Well that in and of itself is potentially a romantic statement, right?", when most English speakers would read a line like that as explicitly saying I love you in a way that isn't romantic, or in a worst case scenario would be something you would say to someone before breaking up with them.

So, yeah, TLDR, too many cooks in the kitchen.

Hanebado, Banana Fish, and Happy Sugar Life are all quite good. Definitely recommend going back for those, at the very least.

I went back and read Happy Sugar Life at one point, wasn't bad! Absolutely going to watch Bannana Fish in full one day. Hanebado is maybe the most frustrating here because I distinctly remember I had almost finished it, but I would have to start over for sure.

Edit: Oh I can actually still check in Hanebado's case, I watched up to episode 9.

Finally watched those last 2 episodes of SobsPlease GBC.

Honestly my take away is that this is still a solid sub group, you just have to go in knowing they screwed up super bad on this one 45 second chunk, and hope they'll fix it in the batch like one of the translators is saying they will.

The current narrative being pushed that they're homophobic really doesn't seem to hold a lot of weight, they just made a really bad call for how to handle something that nearly every Spanish, French, and English translator of Japanese outside of their group has disagreed with, but mostly understood what they were trying to do.

Maybe it will come out that it was an agenda based decision in the future, but there's zero evidence of that as of right now.

I'll admit that maybe I would have put a bit more effort into trying to figure out the controls if I didn't already know ahead of time that what was a awaiting me was a looping game on a timer with no clear cut goals or direction, all things I particularly hate lol.

I still wanted to give it a try at the time regardless, because it was just so beloved and I'm sure for very good reasons, but hitting that jetpack tutorial just shut it down for me.

Senpai is an Otokonoko - I'm too lazy to look that word up, but I assume it means crossdresser because this is a romance where a girl falls for a guy who dresses as a girl. And good for them, I say! I'm not going to watch this right away because I usually like to wait and see reactions to romance anime to gauge drama levels. This has the added wrinkle of if they'll handle the crossdressing seriously. I could definitely watch this if it gets good reviews, though.

This actually goes even further because the crossdressing guy's friend also falls for him even knowing he's a guy per the description. The PV makes it look like an actual drama too and not some goofs thing, so I'm pretty intrigued. I expect there will be some landmines to navigate here, but that makes it all the more interesting to see unfold.

I was on console, I don't play games on PC unless it's the only option (just not what I'm setup for).

I do have a dedicated mouse and keyboard for my PS5 for games that allow it though.

Hardly one of my favorite series, but it feels like it's been around forever for some reason, feels weird! Kind of wish it just kept going at least for a bit with the established relationship, so many romance series just decide to cut themselves off right after they get together.

Meanwhile MHA apparently has a bunch of epilogue chapters left as it "returns to it's namesake" per Horikoshi and is going to do a full epilogue arc in the school. Great. Thanks.

Need to go watch their episode 8 still (and 7 technically), but it seems everyone has turned on SobsPlease since they made up a translation wholesale at the end of the episode because they "doubted it would go anywhere" and they'll "go back and fix it later if we have to".

Now they're getting clowned on all over the place. I seem to have missed all the good stuff because there are a bunch of locked accounts and deleted posts lol.

Franky I'm glad there's finally a show bringing out fan sub drama again that isn't just "was this MTL?". We've gotten too sterile and content!

I never got out of the starter planet because the jetpack controls were so horrifically bad. Came to the decision that there was nothing the game could do to make it worth it.

Will probably watch a playthrough one day.

I have nothing to compare them to obviously, but I think SobsPlease has been fine. At least it doesn't have stuff like [indecipherable gremlin noises] or whatever, really preferred SobsPlease using actual angrish nonsense there instead.

Obviously I don't speak Japanese, but I know enough words to know they that there are several lines they've made up entirely wholesale here and it's bothering me a little I guess. I think the actual quality of the script is just fine and works well though.

Great ep of Tonari no Yokai today, particularly the second half.

The show is just so good at doing these characters even with the limited time they have. Like we've had....like 10 minutes with the elementary school class this whole season I think? Despite that everything in the first half totally resonated.

I've been rewatching GBC with the SobsPlease subs, and while the karaoke is great I think these are overall notably worse than Nyakubi's speed subs.

Yeah, the news of it getting removed went a little viral because it happened directly alongside Mother's Basement putting a video out about these streaming platforms not renewing anime licenses. I now distinctly remember watching a 30 second chunk from near the end of this episode on repeat now.

I have to imagine my "almost" comment about it being the best first episode of that season was because of Asobi Asobase, lol. I am definitely very interested in continuing this now, though it is not immediately grabbing me as much as most of the broad "girls music" category anime I've watched these last couple episodes, however considering how much I've come to adore my big 3 there that's hardly a bad thing.

In general I've loved it. Time will tell if they will stay classics like....every S1 episode was, though.
