I could probably live out of NYC, but I'd likely want to be there or close. PA sucks ass unless you're in Pitt or Philly. Cali has lots of options but would be COL dependent. Florida and Texas are different circles of hell. Maybe Texas>, just because the weather isn't as awful, and small pockets of it are OK. Although admittedly, that's poor wording on my part. I've worked with a few groups that train service dogs from the ground up, mostly for vets with PTSD, and those (as well as all I am familiar with) always instruct their members to use vests/patches. Not as a legal requirement for ADA, but as a "best practices" measure. Mostly, it helps for the public to know and identify that it's a working/service dog, which saves any hassle of dealing with store owners, or the public, who like to come up and ask "can I pet your dog?" (as they are already reaching out to give a pet). So no, not a legal requirement, but what "should" be done. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

USAID has been a particularly alarming example of that: If you ask random people how much of the annual budget they believe gets spent on USAID, the average guess is around 25%, with the average for what people believe should be spent being around 10%. The actual figure is a bit less than 1%, and employs a very significant number of Americans on American soil despite the popular belief that it's all money that's just being handed out to other countries.Yep, that's definitely a perfect example, since to the uneducated masses, virtually anything from that program is going to sound like "waste". You'd have to waste a tremendous amount of time explaining to them what soft power is, why HIV prevention in poor countries is a good idea because viruses don't care about fictional national boundaries, etc. Basically, by the time you'd be done getting them up to speed and qualified to have an opinion on it, they would realize this is a complex, multi-faceted issue, that exists for largely very good reasons, run for by experts and people who give a shit. I know that's dangerously close to telling people "just trust, don't look into it", but the average person isn't remotely qualified to have an opinion on something like USAID. Or, especially when it comes waste and fraud when it's concerning the Trump administration. Trump stole and siphoned hundreds of millions from the government to himself and his family on term one alone. "Emotional support dogs", however, is a mostly bullshit, very broad term, that as no real definition aside from just a pet function as a pet. And unfortunately, rules that bar establishments from asking people to prove their dog is a service dog means any idiot can buy a fake-service vest online, and claim it's an actual service dog. Although fear and chaos is likely the point. adjl posted... People tend to have a skewed view of what's actually taxpayer-funded.An even that is an extremely charitable take on it. The real answer is, a VERY small amount of the public has any correct idea at all what the government does, what various agencies do, and how tax dollars are spent, and where from. Like, at all. Some of this is because governments are big and basically the most complex organizations in existence, especially the American government. The biggest reason is, public political knowledge, engagement, and interest has absolutely cratered over the years, to the point of what the average person's knowledge of the government is reduced to buzzwords and headlines. And while it's a tall order to have the average person gain enough knowledge to pierce the labyrinthine veil of federal government, they don't NEED to. That, and his publications were wildly popular, and helped open up European understanding of the New World is a big way. Does that mean he was worthy of two continents named after him? Probably not. As you mentioned, there are easily better claims to that fame. But my issue was with the claim that he was basically a nobody. "Worse" being in quotes there, because a good example of how silly it is to try to separate politics from, well, *anything* is the topic on the front page now, about a user who is likely losing his job. Which isn't a political topic in of itself, but it's *because* of current politics that he'll likely lose his job. So, is that a "political" topic? Thus highlighting how dumb the ban is to begin with: politics dominates and dictates everything in the daily lives of people in their countries of choice. Even video games used to be routinely in the news, due to some politicians wanting to ban or restrict video games back in the game. And since the current administration is/will continue to have the normal mundane of politics and what politics affects become more forefront in the everyday lives of us all, discussion will naturally increase. ParanoidObsessive posted... or before the corporate higher-ups start to wonder why GameFAQs keeps losing relevance and revenue, start asking why it isn't being fixed and monetized, and the middle management people running things panic and decide they have to do another grand gesture to "prove" that they're absolutely fixing things. It'll be this one. Cracking down on non-video game discussions in order to attract more users is an idea that MIGHT have made sense 25 years ago, when competition for video game forums was more stiff. And even then, having a website have less features and accessibility isn't going to drive user numbers up, even in GFaqs' gold days. Now? This husk of a website becoming more restrictive makes very little sense. Or rather, a ban would have made more sense if they kept 261, and limited political discussions ONLY to that board. Worse, they banned the Politics board, which basically isolated the greater whole of GFaqs from the more heavy political discussions. All it did was release those posting their to scatter among other boards. So now boards that saw little to no political discussions before have a noticeable uptick. Finding time to have sex is easy, after all. What's more, it's more that everyone outside of the Lost Numbers seems basically asexual, with absolutely no acknowledgement of romantic feelings, sex drive, or a notion beyond male and female, but WHY male and female. If I had to guess, there must be programming in the Flame Clock Iris that subdues these natural desires. Can't fight an endless war for the "Now" if you get romantic and emotional attachments, after all. And since the City folk are free of this, their natural inclinations are allowed to prosper fully, which explains how N and M are able to fall in love and reproduce, and how Noah and Mio are able to develop feelings for each other by the end as well. I think I found every location, minus the Ardun Ranch or whatever in Mu, which I'm not I care to do (I had NO idea you could get to Melia's bedroom behind the throne, just found it by looking around). Melia's battle theme is also way better than Nia's. There may have been a handful of normal quests left that I'll just let be. Started FR, got an hour in (when Glimmer runs away). Which makes sense, as they are two different worlds, with none the wiser that such a case ever exist except for Klaus. In X3, the Easter Eggs of how the worlds are connected are abundant, but still easy to miss (as I said in my case), with the connections again only becoming apparent and meaningful in the end. Ends up becoming a really good story between all 3 games that bridges them, that allows each to be different and experiment with different worlds and battle systems (Foresight in X1, Blades/Drivers in X2, etc.). The real question is, where to go from here? X4 could be about the worlds of Bionis and Alrest (and Aionios?) remerging into a New Earth or whatnot, and the strife that brings. There would be a 3rd parallel world based on the story thus far, so it's hard to imagine what else it could be about, unless they go in a completely different story arc direction (which may be the case, and could expand upon the Xenoblade X world). I'd love to see more story that connects these worlds, but understand it could be inauthentic at this point. 5 years passed from X2's release and that of X3. The incredibly STUPID thing about measles is that it evolved from a disease of cattle called rinderpest, a disease that was completely eradicated because of vaccines!Yep. Shit, it was damn near eradicated in the US without even a giant push to end it for good, but it's surging again. Minecraft already had sold 180 million copies before pewdie ever broadcast it- that is in no way "circling the drain", as you put it, and it was "mainstream" well before that. The article is also talking about Google Search trends, which is *not* a representation of player count or copies sold. Did he help spur some growth? Sure, but you're hilariously overselling his impact by orders of magnitude. Anyways, I haven't turned on MC in years, mostly due to friends moving onto other things. The desire to build remains, and once in a while I get that itch. But I also wonder if all the changes over the years I.missed out on would confuse me now. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

| CyborgSage00x0 02/13/25 2:34:26 AM #15 | Also depends on what you mean by "arts school"...like a college solely about classical arts, like drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.? Does this include schools that are solely dedicated to/or incorporate arts like dance, music, theater, and film? Or is this like "college of fine arts", which basically all colleges/universities have? --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

| CyborgSage00x0 02/13/25 2:31:31 AM #28 | On X: I'd rather they not try to tie it in, and hopefully they don't. X1-3 just does a fine job having all the overarching storyline bridge together, whereas X is wildly different. Hell, unless Alrest and Bionis merging together becomes "Earth 2.0", and thousands of years later it gets destroyed, a la the story that kicks off X, they basically can't exist together. Also, on Lanz, etc. Holy SHIT. I can't believe I didn't notice that he, Mwamba, etc. Look like Mechina! It's been a while since I've played X1, to be fair, but damn. And for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why Sena and Cammuravi had flaming hair that NO ONE finds odd, and some have demon horns, etc. Blades. That makes sense. Her body markings make it obvious now. Still, the entire damn game I was wondering why no one points out why the hell they are all "humans" but look wildly different. Makes sense now, although I still find it odd that no one ever ponders it in-game. Eunie and Mio made sense, especially after the story hinted why they looked like that, but it makes way more sense now. Speaking of, there's kinda throw away lines about the Keves side needing to use Power Frames (the glowing blue circled they all have) in order to match the strength of Agnes/properly weird their Blades. It's brought up out of the blue by Riku once, and then.power frames are mentioned, like, twice ever again. So why is it Agnians are naturally stronger? As for the photo, assuming Rex knocked up Pyra, who knocked up Mythra and Nia? As for thr Keycard, you find it alongside clothing of a soldier (the clothing looks odd to everyone) on a quest outside of Colony 9 IIRC. It's a Key Item that sits in your inventory all game, and no one online seems to have an answer as to what it does, ir where it came from. Also also, pretty sure it's implied Melia and Nia must be thousands of years old, since e Aionis history dates back a couple thousand years through various conversations. I'm finally doing Segiri's ascension, my last one (aside from Melia, Nia, and the 2 DLC ones), then I may do a few quests before grinding to fight some of the end-game bosses (level 89 currently), then likely call.it quits. Went to the Hall of Heroes Past or w/e and saw that the Sword Cabity is now an area, not sure if any new.spaces opened up. Then I'll do FR, which I assume has different characters to play as? Also, as for heroes, gotta say my favorite ended up being Triton, Ashera, Teach, and Ethel, personality wise. Alexandria is pretty good, too. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

Metroid Prime 4 and TotK being notable exceptions (the reactions to whose delays may be the motivating factor behind this strategy), most of their recent games have been announced within less than a year of the anticipated release date, which I'm a fan of.And even then, MP4 was likely in a reasonable window, but they decided to scrap it all and start from scratch with Retro...which should have been the plan anyways. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

You say that like inflation hasn't also fucked this country and many others, we should try to get to a point where the dollar is the strongest and stay there without inflation or deflation, and right now we are too inflated. What are you talking about even? Inflation is a natural occurring event in economics. You know how your grandparents talk about how bread used.to cost a nickel in their day, and now it doesn't? That's inflation. The goal is to keep the inflation rate low, but it can't really be stopped. What the world experienced due to Covid was a sharp increase in inflation prices, but much of what we are seeing are artificially increased prices under the guise of inflation, aka greedflation. But in general, prices from inflation don't return to pre-inflation values. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |

| CyborgSage00x0 02/11/25 10:51:54 PM #21 | Well, finished the game. Still have some questions on the plot, but I also bought the DLC that I will likely get into tomorrow, so I'll hold off on commentary until then. I didn't know I was gonna end the game by being in Origin that quickly, but went ahead with it anyways, despite having some Ascension quests and whatnot to fulfill, which I am doing now (my god does this game have a lot of quests in general). Might try to max out all the colony points, too, and will of course try to take down the few level 90-110 UM around. I felt the end was a...tad disappointing? The explanation over what Z was was a little confusing (kinda thought he was gonna be Zanza in a way/another aspect of Klaus, but just Origin's AI?), but I think I got it sorted. I liked the emotional beats at the end, but felt like it lacked the world-defying epic ending I've come to know from this series. And yes, I know that's despite the worlds moving apart now, lol (won't they just try and come back together anyways?). Still, what a helluva game, with great action, areas, characters (hell, the characters and VA are so good), and unique story that binds X1 and X2 together. Really wonder where the series will go from here. Also, any clue what the Mysterious Keycard you find mid0game ish goes to? Can't seem to find anyone online that knows. Also, really wish they would release a big book tying X1-3 together (and X? I kinda need to re-read about X, since it doesn't seem quite related?). Excited to get to the Future Redeemed. Also, some of the islands in the sea are Titans from X2? The hell are people getting this stuff (online reading)? The Place of the Heroes was cool to finally get to, but a little underwhelming once there. Guess this confirms things were indeed falling off of both worlds. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. |
