You can't have gateway series if there's not much else to watch after your first. Somewhat related note, I'd argue against any series from the mid 2010s or later because by then anime was mainstream enough that people were generally familiar with the concept. Like, it's a bit less than ten years later but most of the characters seem more like fifteen-ish years older. The only ones where the ages feel right are Bobby and his friends, but also there's not really much plot reason they all had to be early 20s instead of mid 20s. Not sure what the writers were going for with the timeskip length they chose.
