In a WRPG, the freedom and choices distract you from the thin plot. In a JRPG, the amazing plot distracts you from the lack of freedom and choices. Music sucks in both.

Do you consider MINIs to be British or German? They are inspired by an unquestionably British car, festooned in Union Jacks, yet they are owned by BMW (and have many BMW components), but then most are built in UK. It's weird.

There's also more obvious badge engineering, where (for example) the Dodge Sprinter has an American brand (okay, that brand is owned by an American/Italian/French company), but is actually a German design.

A JPRG uses the mechanical framework of a traditional (western? TTRPG?), with characters, abilities, inventory, NPCs, etc., but the plot is on rails. The PC (or party) does not get to make any substantial decisions based on "playing" the "role".

The conversation between Bandit and Rad implied to me that Bandit would have to look for a new job if they stayed and Bandit was very worried about that uncertainty.

Thanks for catching that; I'll watch it again.

I also think it's worth mentioning that Rad is the oldest Heeler kid, yet "feels" the youngest. He's had the most free lifestyle of the brothers. Maybe he was pressured to start earning early? In a way, it would seem like he's the most short-sighted, but in this episode, we saw that his longer life experience allowed him to compromise when it mattered, in a way that might have been harder for a younger person. That's deep character development, and it really resonated with me (I am the oldest of three brothers, who got married "late").

The upside is they probably got a fat earnest money check, assuming Australia real estate processes are similar to here in the US.

They would have gotten earnest money from the sheepdogs, but then owed earnest money for the new house they had to back out of (unless they were planning on renting while looking).

The minimum standard for extra bedrooms for kids should be the number of kids plus one, then divided by two, rounded down. 1-2 kids = +1 bedroom, 3-4 kids = +2 bedrooms, etc. Yeah, it sucks to share, but this is a minimum standard.

what was the down side of the family moving to a new house so the dad can live closer to his new job?

Also, did Bandit have to back out of an accepted job offer (and had he already quit his old job, or was he backing out of a transfer)? Did they have to back out of the purchase of their new house? Had they already committed to renting storage until the new house was ready? Adulting is hard and decisions have consequences!

It's also intentionally ambiguous whether family made the right decision in the end. Yes, a comfortable status quo was maintained, but the audience was (intentionally) never shown exactly how much Bandit's new job would have improved opportunities for the family (and especially the girls).

The US military is so completely OP that a literal WW3 is unlikely to happen. The few countries that are even approaching the US in technological and industrial capability are still decades behind in training and experience. The one weakness of the US was a tendency to get mired in nation-building ("losing the peace"), but Afghanistan has shown that simply abandoning countries can be a viable alternative (for the US; it obviously sucks for the locals).

TopicPet peeve: The fact that everything needs an "App"
tankboy
04/10/24 6:12:43 AM

With an app, you are essentially selling your privacy. In return for reduced prices, the company gets your demographic info, marketing info, preferences, insights into your habits (How often do you browse their menu? Do you do it just before bed? Do you sit on a cheap option for an above-average number of seconds before adding a more expensive option?). But that's not necessarily a bad thing, if you understand it going in. In fact, maybe you really want your "voice" to be heard so more products are tuned for your interests.

But at the same time, every app you install reduces your security and degrades the overall experience of using your device.

It's never out of the question, though Israel-Gaza is FAR more likely to spiral into WW3, and even that isn't overly likely to.

I think it's unlikely. Israel/Gaza is much smaller in scale than any of its previous full-blown wars, and it's not even fighting more than one country at a time. And unlike previous conflicts, the Arab countries would be fighting for The Palestinians (who they don't care about), as opposed to territory (which they did care about). We've also seen that previous smaller conflicts (e.g., invasion of Lebanon) didn't really interest the surrounding countries enough to get involved (or maybe they were quietly happy to have Israel do the job).
