I'm sure the answer is 1-1 but I think 1-2 is actually in way more games. Off the top of my head, 3, 64, Mario Party, the NSMB games, 3D Land/World, and Run all have 1-2 or some remix of it without 1-1

I'm just so sick of hearing about it since 2017 tbh. It's one of the reasons I don't visit the Switch board anymore lol.
Likewise I'm sick of being told that a poorly implemented weapon durability system is the only way to make these games fun, that Nintendo wouldn't bring back durability in TotK if it wasn't a good system, and so on

RasterGraphic posted...
To me, if you detest a core design decision of a game ... you really just don't like the game.
But this is false because I actually love Breath/Tears, there's more to the games than just the weapon durability. Playing around with Stasis/Remote Bombs/Ultrahand/etc., exploring the world, finding/upgrading/dying the armor pieces, building creative Zonai devices, completing shrines, etc. were all really fun to me

RasterGraphic posted...
It's just not a traditional Zelda game. And I don't think it would work as one. If you got rid of item durability, you would have to change so much about how the game works to not make the game boring. It would make an already fairly easy game completly devoid of challenge.
If weapons breaking are the only thing that keeps the game from being boring to you, then it sounds like more of a problem with the game's combat, balance, progression, and rewards. All of these can be improved without the use of breakable weapons. Furthermore, this is the same game where you can hold 999 of each item, dozens upon dozens of meals that fully heal you, rocket shields that let you skip shrines, hoverbikes that let you skip dungeons and challenging terrain, and so on. At this point what exactly is there to be gained from weapon durability when the game showers you in weapons and resources? If they're not going to lean into the survival mechanics more, then the weapon durability simply becomes a pointless waste of time

RasterGraphic posted...
Some people do enjoy that, but that's not for me.
And that is totally fine if you like the system the way it is, I just wish people would stop acting like it is the one and only system that could possibly work for this type of game

Survival was a central theme, you were supposed to think on your feet and use items in the environment to your advantage.
What thinking are you doing though? There are always hundreds of weapons anywhere in sight and you can carry 900+ fusion materials, bombs, etc. Every time you need to break through a rock wall, they litter the area with rusty weapons and stones so you don't even need to plan for that either. There are only 3 main weapon types with some slight variations, there is very little to think about

RasterGraphic posted...
If you could just use one super weapon for the entire game, the whole thing falls apart.
By that logic, armor should be breakable because if you find a good piece of armor, you would use it for the whole game. Which is not the case in these games, so why can't it be the same for weapons

RasterGraphic posted...
The game had flaws, item durability was actually a correct design choice for what the game was trying to do.
No it's not, it was executed pretty poorly. Survival mechanics are only worthwhile if the game isn't showering you in the resources you need to survive. Otherwise why even bother? Other open world games did not weapon durability to get people to experiment with other weapons and playstyles

gives you a reason to engage with different weapons even after you've found the best ones. If they didn't break, once you've picked up a good weapon you wouldn't need to even look at them for the rest of the game.
This is like saying armor should be breakable because once you get a good piece of armor, you won't use anything else. Which is not really true in these games, so the same could easily be done with weapons

Though, unrelated but sort of relevant, remember when Jet Force Gemini required you to find every single one of the hidden teddy bears to even get into the second half of the game?

Naaaaah, the pokemon monster system and Emile's whole playstyle is better than at least half of the games alone. It is the best of all the pre-cc versions of Tales games.

People just get upset that it didn't have a world map and that the Symphonia cast can't be upgraded.
Emil was cool but I played as Marta for the majority of the game. The fun in Tales for me is learning and mastering all the characters, so having 8 out of 10 playable characters in an action RPG being unable to level up or change their equipment and are essentially deadweight is a pretty big deal for me. The lack of a world map is disappointing but to a lesser degree. The story was whatever with dumb moments like fake Lloyd and that "courage is the magic" line they loved to spam. The bonus dungeon is one of the worst dungeons I've ever played in a video game

I will say that the skits were pretty funny and the new music was good. The monster catching was decent but yeah you can't play as them

Weapon durability sucks in BotW/TotK and adds nothing of value to these games. You're constantly showered in weapons and fusion parts so all it does is unnecessarily pause the combat from time to time, adds tedious menu-ing, and litters the battlefield with tons of garbage you can't pick up because your inventory is full. Weapons should've been handled like armor

It actually activates even if you don't necessarily go flying. So if you use the Long Sword or Switch Axe counter on an attack that would've blown you away, you still get the damage buff and come out unscathed. Great skill

I feel like you guys are way too hard on yourselves. It's fine to acknowledge you've gotten good at something that cam be considered difficult.

If a decent amount of people are saying something you think is easy is an accomplishment, consider that it feels easy to you because you're good at it rather than that everyone else is bad at it. Basketball probably feels a lot easier to Michael Jordan than us.
Well said and I really don't understand why people struggle to see it this way

RasterGraphic posted...
The problem with that argument is that I'm actually terrible at games and I find most Mega Mans perfectly manageable.

The difficult part of most of these games is finding the first boss you can beat with the vanilla buster. After that, it just becomes "ice is weak to fire, water is weak to ice, etc".
They are manageable but I'd still say they are overall difficult. And even if you have the boss weakness, the levels themselves can pose a challenge as well. And the Wily stage bosses tend to be less straightforward than the 8 robot masters. I think it's still fair for you to say that you are good at what's regularly considered a difficult series
