Lydia goes from wearing all black and having a sullen expression to wearing a white undershirt and smiling, symbolizing that she's gone from a negative gothic outlook to embracing a gothic identity while still having some levity and room for fun in her life.

If the director of this movie didn't catch that, there's no chance for the film to be good. It's like making a Back to the Future sequel where Marty is provoked by being called chicken.
