Although interestingly from my experience, a lot of the maga-leaning fence sitters in Michigan are more pissed about the trans rights issue.

Even my own dad who was historically staunchly Democrat mulled over "voting for anyone but Biden" because he genuinely believes he should have the right to tell people what their pronouns are and the other way around is oppressive to him. The dude is just a mask off bigot though.

I'll have to check out the D video when I have time, and Zig sounds interesting, although the problems it seems to try to fix don't seem like things that I ever really found problematic in C personally. I'll still look into it more, it's likely I just didn't "see the light" so to speak.

I think for now I'm sticking with learning Rust, but I'm not so far gone with it that I can't change.

The other question is what should I use for scripting? I'm leaning on Lua just because I personally like the language and have a pretty deep understanding of it's internals and how to embed it with the default API. But Lua seems to have fallen out of style, and hard.

That's a little further on though.

The first order of business is getting something on screen (I know a lot of people would argue that it should be like a math library or something which I don't completely disagree with, but in my experience people need some sort of visual feedback or they will not give a single iota of a shit about anything else that is occurring).

So I'm just going to opt for imGUI as the widget library. It's lightweight (like 3000 FPS if you know what you're doing lightweight(I'm not promising that I've just seen it done)) and familiar to me.

For the layout and interface of the engine's editor, I plan on modeling it after Macromedia Flash from the early 2000's. This is born out of my frustration with modern UI/UX.

This is why I love computer science.

It is genuinely an amazingly well designed game and I don't know what it's detractors are on about.

It put the cerebral element back in Doom. 2016 was really good, but the cold hard truth is that it's just Serious Sam with a Doom skin. Don't get me wrong, Serious Sam fuckin kicks ass, but it's no Doom.

Something I continuly start and stop as a self-care project. I can lie to myself and say that it's for my portfolio, but the industry has very little interest in a highly technical skillset these days.

The question is what language should I use? Modern C++ has it's benefits but templates are a nightmare to debug and I genuinely like working in ANSI C, but I end up "hacking" together a object oriented interface anyway so I might as well use C++.

Maybe I should use this opportunity to learn Rust and Vulkin ...

And the novelty of a new experience will give me dopamine brain tingles which is kind of the goal of this to begin with.

I could easily imagine MG3 as open world... but not every game needs to open world.

I like animation in general.

Hulu was only free because it's main competition was YouTube. Now pirated content on YouTube isn't as common, their main competition are other streaming services.

That's the thing, we really arn't the customer here. That would primarily be the advertising agencies.

Additionally, most long time users use adblock. So if anything they probably lose money on our traffic.

Yeah, I would be very suprised if those guys had any prior connection to the site prior to being hired. Honestly, I don't know because my knowledge basically extends to message board rumors, but I get feeling they either already did shit for Fandom and got stuck with the admin role or were brought on thinking it was a typical social media job.

I don't think they have one to be honest. I used to be of the opinion that they were slowly killing the site, but I feel like if that was truly the case we'd be gone by now.

From my understanding its a similar situation to when 4Kids acquired One Piece as in it was something they glanced at that was part of a package deal and they didn't really know what they were buying. Because at first glance this place just resembles another Moby Games. They probably weren't aware the boards had a vocal cult fanbase.

The idea of all that stuff being machine translated isn't all that weird to me because doing the translations on those signs has been a common use case for machine translation for decades.

However... even that doesn't quite make sense when you think about it. Having all those translations is justified because Spanish is one of if not the most common language in the world ... and yet they somehow can't find someone fluent to do the translations for them? It really is super lazy when you think about it lol

That's very possible, but having "Spanish translation" followed by the text to be translated just screams chat prompt to me.

I feel like a placeholder would be more likely to say "(placeholder for Spanish translation)" or something to that degree.

It's a little too personal I feel.
Additionally, depending on the tone and context it may sow the seed that you're a racist because why else would you care?

Mars Attacks is a really good IP for a video game, like a REALLY REALLY good one.

I don't think Konami can really rebound and it seems like a lot of their success in the games industry was a fluke to begin with. Team Silent was only a thing because they couldn't recognize the talent in their staff and just stuck everyone they didn't like in a room and told them to rip off Resident Evil.
