| Topic | They're really pushing for Trump in Michigan |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 10:27:20 AM #5 | Although interestingly from my experience, a lot of the maga-leaning fence sitters in Michigan are more pissed about the trans rights issue. Even my own dad who was historically staunchly Democrat mulled over "voting for anyone but Biden" because he genuinely believes he should have the right to tell people what their pronouns are and the other way around is oppressive to him. The dude is just a mask off bigot though. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | They're really pushing for Trump in Michigan |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 10:21:27 AM #3 | I'm from Michigan... it's almost purple to a fault. So of course they're gunna be pushing that shit. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Considering writing a game engine (again) ... |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 9:06:10 AM #11 | Holy fuck adding a library with cargo was easy. Like, I didn't even think about it, it just kind of all intuitively functioned like it should. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Is there too much pepperoni on this pizza? |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 8:44:06 AM #7 | That's gunna be heartburn. This is coming from a guy who's favorite pizza is sausage and jalapenos. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Considering writing a game engine (again) ... |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 8:35:32 AM #10 | I'll have to check out the D video when I have time, and Zig sounds interesting, although the problems it seems to try to fix don't seem like things that I ever really found problematic in C personally. I'll still look into it more, it's likely I just didn't "see the light" so to speak. I think for now I'm sticking with learning Rust, but I'm not so far gone with it that I can't change. The other question is what should I use for scripting? I'm leaning on Lua just because I personally like the language and have a pretty deep understanding of it's internals and how to embed it with the default API. But Lua seems to have fallen out of style, and hard. That's a little further on though. The first order of business is getting something on screen (I know a lot of people would argue that it should be like a math library or something which I don't completely disagree with, but in my experience people need some sort of visual feedback or they will not give a single iota of a shit about anything else that is occurring). So I'm just going to opt for imGUI as the widget library. It's lightweight (like 3000 FPS if you know what you're doing lightweight(I'm not promising that I've just seen it done)) and familiar to me. For the layout and interface of the engine's editor, I plan on modeling it after Macromedia Flash from the early 2000's. This is born out of my frustration with modern UI/UX. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | C/D: You are a bad faith user. |
| RasterGraphic 08/27/24 8:08:37 AM #5 | D: I'm just a bitter asshole prone to venting. Generally I try to make a point of being obvious when I'm trying to be taken seriously or just being silly/snarky. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Zoided by the Berg. |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 11:09:19 PM #3 | It looks like the Fry model was ripped directly from the old PS2 game. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Considering writing a game engine (again) ... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 10:39:08 PM #4 | So cargo is actually a package manager ... interesting So why am I using it to initialize a new project? Heck, to even compile a project? because to me a package manger is something like apt or synaptic. This is why I love computer science. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Doom Eternal... Good game or nah? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 10:31:30 PM #8 | It is genuinely an amazingly well designed game and I don't know what it's detractors are on about. It put the cerebral element back in Doom. 2016 was really good, but the cold hard truth is that it's just Serious Sam with a Doom skin. Don't get me wrong, Serious Sam fuckin kicks ass, but it's no Doom. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Considering writing a game engine (again) ... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 10:25:24 PM #3 | I got the Rust toolchain installed, which was pretty straight forward. Now reading about Cargo, which seems fascinating. I come from CMake land, which I still adore as a "build system" (it's not really a build system), but I feel like even CMake fanboys can agree that it's pretty overwrought and a little too complicated at this juncture. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Coppola Doesn't Want to Be Seen as Woke |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 10:07:00 PM #8 | That's generally a pretty good reason for someone to be "cancelled". --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Life using Chat gbt to the top. |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 9:32:56 PM #2 | I'm not gunna lie, I've been using Ecosia chat a lot ... and I'm seeing less and less of a reason to use traditional search engines anymore. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | IGN slams MG3 remake over it not being open-world |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 9:25:23 PM #14 | To play devils advocate, this is a problem that we have solved literally decades ago ... even with games that feature a segmented level structure. When Soul Reaver on the PSX didn't have load times between levels ... --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Would you hang out in this room with a couch or this taxi? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 9:20:30 PM #5 | The couch, but only if I'm allowed to use protection. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Considering writing a game engine (again) ... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 9:16:25 PM #1 | Something I continuly start and stop as a self-care project. I can lie to myself and say that it's for my portfolio, but the industry has very little interest in a highly technical skillset these days. The question is what language should I use? Modern C++ has it's benefits but templates are a nightmare to debug and I genuinely like working in ANSI C, but I end up "hacking" together a object oriented interface anyway so I might as well use C++. Maybe I should use this opportunity to learn Rust and Vulkin ... And the novelty of a new experience will give me dopamine brain tingles which is kind of the goal of this to begin with. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | IGN slams MG3 remake over it not being open-world |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 9:05:51 PM #5 | I could easily imagine MG3 as open world... but not every game needs to open world. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Tim Walz caught LYING about the DOG PARK?! |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 8:51:59 PM #43 | And here I thought loving dogs was considered very American. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Do you like anime? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 8:46:49 PM #21 | I like animation in general. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Ya'll remember when Hulu was free? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 8:42:21 PM #14 | Hulu was only free because it's main competition was YouTube. Now pirated content on YouTube isn't as common, their main competition are other streaming services. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Remember when DToast said we'd see site improvements in exchange... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 8:39:28 PM #46 | SAlYAN posted... I don't think it's unreasonable at this stage of the game to ask "when os Fandom finally going to do something for US? You know, the customers/users? That's the thing, we really arn't the customer here. That would primarily be the advertising agencies. Additionally, most long time users use adblock. So if anything they probably lose money on our traffic. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |

| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 8:35:24 PM #44 | BlueTigerLion posted... DToast account was created in Jan 2023. TimmyQuivy May 2023. So they joined recently. I wonder if they werent a part of Fandom would they have created accounts here. One of them I forget who kept calling this board "The CE". Yeah, I would be very suprised if those guys had any prior connection to the site prior to being hired. Honestly, I don't know because my knowledge basically extends to message board rumors, but I get feeling they either already did shit for Fandom and got stuck with the admin role or were brought on thinking it was a typical social media job. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | Topic | Remember when DToast said we'd see site improvements in exchange... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 7:30:42 PM #28 | BlueTigerLion posted... So what exactly is the endgame for Fandom? It sometimes feels like going to Blockbuster near the end when I visit this site. Reddit, Twitch, YouTube all seem like where all the new people go to discuss games. This site is one people go "when I was young I came here". Which isnt a good for growth of a site. I don't think they have one to be honest. I used to be of the opinion that they were slowly killing the site, but I feel like if that was truly the case we'd be gone by now. From my understanding its a similar situation to when 4Kids acquired One Piece as in it was something they glanced at that was part of a package deal and they didn't really know what they were buying. Because at first glance this place just resembles another Moby Games. They probably weren't aware the boards had a vocal cult fanbase. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Spanish translation |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 7:19:33 PM #15 | The idea of all that stuff being machine translated isn't all that weird to me because doing the translations on those signs has been a common use case for machine translation for decades. However... even that doesn't quite make sense when you think about it. Having all those translations is justified because Spanish is one of if not the most common language in the world ... and yet they somehow can't find someone fluent to do the translations for them? It really is super lazy when you think about it lol --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Remember when DToast said we'd see site improvements in exchange... |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 7:01:51 PM #7 | I haven't browsed GameFAQs without an adblocker in 25 years, literally. I would say at least it's not as bad as the Fandom Wikis, in that adblock still works 99% of the time. The Fandom Wikis employ some sort of anti-adblock. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Spanish translation |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:56:28 PM #9 | Hambo posted... I assume it was just a placeholder that they forgot to replace before sending the design. The other varieties of sandpaper packages had the actual translations in the same position. They probably designed them all at once with [insert translation here] placeholders and just missed this one. That's very possible, but having "Spanish translation" followed by the text to be translated just screams chat prompt to me. I feel like a placeholder would be more likely to say "(placeholder for Spanish translation)" or something to that degree. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Is it offensive to ask someone what their race or ethnicity is? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:47:15 PM #12 | It's a little too personal I feel. Additionally, depending on the tone and context it may sow the seed that you're a racist because why else would you care? --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Do you pronounce data as dah-ta or date-ah? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:39:47 PM #1 | I say date-ah because that was hammered into my head as the "correct" way at a young age, but I refuse to belittle those who say dah-ta. It was always a weird trigger for my father, ever since I could remember he would non-stop mock people behind their back over this. Even to this day, he still brings it up and fixates on it. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Subway 'announcing new prices for footlongs' |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:18:19 PM #135 | Well, props to them I guess. Subway's major issue for years is that it's just too damn expensive for the food quality and how anemic their sandwiches are. Not to mention being pretty bad for you with how much sugar is in the bread. There has to be a catch, that shit used to be 20+ bucks in some locations. Even though it's more expensive, I'll probably stick with Jersey Mike's. If I'm splurging on a sandwich I want that shit loaded. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Spanish translation |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:05:37 PM #2 | Yo soy el sofa. But seriously, what level of not giving shit do you have to be to copy and past an AI chat prompt but not the actual response. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Plan to Regulate Access to Online Porn in California Dies Quietly in Legislature |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 6:04:20 PM #5 | Don't get me wrong, this is definitely a good thing. But I feel like these laws passing on a national scale is an inevitability, especially with how young adults oppose sex in anything for reasons I'll never understand. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | I must not horny. Horny is the mind-killer |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 5:56:49 PM #7 | What if I'm constantly horny to the extent that I'm probably heterosexual to a degree but have little interest in actually having intercourse? Edit: heterosexual was meant to be hyper-sexual but I laughed too hard to want to fix it. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |

| Topic | Mars Attracts Reveal Trailer - Future Games Show Gamescom 2024 |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 5:38:40 PM #18 | I thought that was a typo or a porn parody at first. Mars Attacks is a really good IP for a video game, like a REALLY REALLY good one. You could make a dumb ultra violent FPS and openly market it towards adolescents and no one would care because of the pop culture status. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | Topic | Do you tend to talk more about yourself than the other person in conversations? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 5:25:39 PM #14 | I often do this to try to find some sort of anchor to relate with others. | RasterGraphic 08/26/24 5:18:29 PM #54 | GuerrillaSoldier posted... look, it's pretty clear what this is, and what it's always been. kojima got fucked by konami, and konami turned away from games. you don't think kojima said "well fuck you, try to make good games without me"? you don't think konami came back after their pachinko phase and said "no fuck you we'll just make money off of your ideas because we can't make any good new ones of our own"? Yeah, I don't think I can enjoy any sort modern Metal Gear media knowing what happened. I don't think Konami can really rebound and it seems like a lot of their success in the games industry was a fluke to begin with. Team Silent was only a thing because they couldn't recognize the talent in their staff and just stuck everyone they didn't like in a room and told them to rip off Resident Evil. It was pretty obvious Konami needed Kojima and not the other way around. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | Are the Republicans completely cooked after Trump? |
| RasterGraphic 08/26/24 5:06:17 PM #83 | If my last interaction with a MAGA "friend" is any indication, they feel as though they are the victims in all of this and don't really plan on letting up. While they may have less of presence politically, I think media is going move very far to the right (more so than it has already) ... individuals who were at a very impressionable age when all this bullshit happened are now old enough to start finding jobs in media. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | RasterGraphic 08/26/24 3:33:28 PM #3 | I was never actually hugely into AOTS, but I did enjoy The ScreenSavers and Call For Help. | RasterGraphic 08/25/24 10:47:39 PM #22 | Ive had professors like this, honestly I'd probably do pretty well in a class like this so I'm biased as hell. Programming is basically the only thing I'm good at lol. Stick with it. I'm gunna sound like an asshole, but let's be real, If you don't know how to use the Internet or the official reference manual, no company will want to hire you.
