"Friday" is iconic for being bad, so it's Rushmore worthy, meant for us or not.

IDGAF about Captain & Tennille. I think it's just a mediocre song. But ask anyone who was a young adult in the 70s and they'll cringe at the thought of it. So to me it's Rushmore-worthy.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying I don't agree with kids songs being exempt, but making it fair game to go after pop for preteen/teen girls when we're mostly a bunch of 40 year old men. Baby Shark is pretty notorious for being extremely annoying.

Stuff like Baby and Friday aren't really "made for us" either. Friday's like a preteen pop by a 13 year old and Baby's a teen bop for teenage girls during Biebermania as well.

SS performed poorly even in its GotY poll on GameFAQs. Its reputation has probably gotten a bit worse over time, but not that much.

The game still got 93 on Metacritic, so it fit the "critical success" at launch criteria that's listed and the Switch rerelease that fixed a lot of issues still dropped to 80 so there was a clear critical re-evaluation. Compare that with other games like Xenoblade that launched with 92 and its rerelease only fell to 89.

Yeah I would agree with TLOU2 counting but not TLOU1 for reasons Leon brought up.

I'd agree with FFVI counting, although it's definitely murkier with ensemble games with a massive cast and a main protagonist that's not centralizing.

There's also the grey area with games allowing a choice between fixed protagonists of differing gender like RE2. I imagine fully customizable protagonists like Skyrim probably wouldn't count though I see P3P often in lists of classic otome games.

OoT is probably closer to Citizen Kane, at least in terms of topping GOAT polls and reception. I honestly feel like I've seen Super Metroid more than Metroid Prime in those context.

Sure, but that doesn't mean much, since we don't know Nintendo's internal projections for budgets and sales for those games and whether MP4 went through further development issues.

I highly doubt Nintendo planned for MP4 to go through the development hell that it did. I mean Skull and Bones is supposedly a "AAAA" game that took a decade of development but yet I don't know if Ubisoft is internally projecting it to be going to be one of the most successful games ever made.

You could basically make all of the arguments youre making against Metroid against Zelda before the Switch. The key difference being that Metroid just had its best selling game ever! I think for a Metroid game Prime 4 will be huge. It would also benefit a lot from being an early or launch Switch 2 game.

Metroid's always been much more niche than pre-BotW Zelda. OoT and TP were both around the 8 million mark, which is significantly better than anything Metroid's done. Metroid Dread did as well as it did because it took advantage of the massive Switch install base but even then it wasn't able to outsell something like FE3H and nobody would think Nintendo would pull a BotW style launch with FE.
