Decided to time Rayfa's Divination Seance cutscene, too, while I was at it. It takes 20 seconds for her to do that spiel before she starts, and the cutscene lasts about 1 minute and 40 seconds for two minutes total.

Nahyuta at least looks competent, which is more than you can say about Fran.

Franziska is many things, but incompetent is not one of them.

Klavier is competent, too, really. I guess you could call Godot the "least competent," but he just takes a different approach from all the others.

Started 6-1. Just a few quick notes before I forget.

Around 11-12 minutes before Ahlbi gets arrested
Around 16 minutes before Phoenix storms in and gets behind the defense's bench
Around 22 minutes before they officially restart the trial

They redid Phoenix's character model a bit. It looks sharper and his animations overall look better. The most noticeable character model upgrade is Trucy's. She looks so much better in SoJ than in DD.

Also, if you want to get an idea of how SoJ took a step up in the "serious business" department compared to DD, just look at Phoenix's character art!

DD: https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/aceattorney/images/9/9e/PhoenixWright-AA5.png

Not exactly lighthearted with the face, but still kinda casual with the pose.

SoJ: https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/aceattorney/images/5/5a/Phoenix_wright_AA6.png

Intense look of determination on the face, clenched fist, ready to throw down.

It doesn't come close at all, actually!

just needs 5-5 to be a little longer to pass 5-2 tbqh

just needs 5-5 and 5-3 to be longer than 5-6

5-6 and 5-2 being similar in length is fitting since they are similar in quality

You think 6-2 is longer than 6-6, huh.

I guess it's possible because 6-6 is a pretty breezy case, especially for the current team's standards. I don't feel like 6-2 was that close to 5-5 in terms of length, and they're the same type of case in terms of format.

It seems like the case is solved...but something still doesn't feel right. Rimes says to lock him away and give him the death penalty, and Blackquill says they determined the large bruise around Shipley's wrist was from a powerful grip from Rimes's hand. Blackquill surmises that it must have been a result of a scuffle between the two, but Phoenix still can't shake the feeling that something's not right. He remembers those fingerprints Pearl found, and that's our final piece of evidence. With this, he's able to prove that Rimes was actually trying to save Shipley, not kill him. Turns out there was no murder, after all! It was an unfortunate accident. This might be Phoenix's best moment in DD here, where he's just trusting his gut as a lawyer and running with it, refusing to take the easy way out and determining to make sure the whole truth gets out. He's just the best.

All's well that ends well, I suppose! Marlon doesn't go to jail, and we also find out that the original orca is still alive and well! We fast forward a few months, and Phoenix goes back to see the Swashbuckler Spectacular, this time featuring both orcas and Marlon as the villainous Redstache! 5-6 might be the series' happiest ending. It still has a dark spot with Shipley being dead, of course, but compared to what it was looking like, with Rimes being put away and the original orca being dead, it's quite a rebound!

5-6 complete! Two more testimonies here: One with Orla and the infamous "The Dissin' of Phoenix Wright" testimony from Mega Rimes. Of course, the Orla testimony couldn't hope to match Polly's (the parrot, not Apollo), but it's still pretty fun, mostly because Blackquill gets more and more incensed with every statement you press. However, he's quite impressed when Phoenix actually manages to use the cross-examination to tie Rimes to the incident by using the training videos on his cell phone. He also reluctantly admits that Orla's song isn't bad, although Taka's is naturally clearer and more beautiful. Phoenix thinks neither one should quit their day job.

Oh right, sequence breaking here, but during the recess, both Crab and DePlume show up to tell us that they'll accept the truth, no matter what it is. DePlume vows to record it in her next book, even if it contradicts the first book. Crab isn't pleased that Phoenix is exposing all of the aquarium's dirty secrets, but he's sure they'll find a way to handle it in the end. Phoenix also speculates that Azura actually died from the heart condition that Sasha coincidentally also has and not from being killed by the orca. Nobody bothered to do a detailed investigation into the cause of death, I guess!

Back to the trial, now we've got to find out how Rimes managed to manipulate the orca, particularly about how he managed to get Orla to do two tricks at once, including a completely different song. The cell phone videos to the rescue once more! There's a video of Azura getting the orca to sing the old song, so Phoenix suggests Rimes used his walkie-talkie to broadcast the song over the speaker to make it seem like Orla was singing at the same time.

Rimes ain't about to play that game though, yo ho ho, and he'll tell you why! As an aside, I love the Judge's reaction when he transforms. "Where did this pirate come from?!" Rimes drops a hardcore beat on Phoenix explaining that his walkie-talkie is busted. Unfortunately, I inwardly shuddered when he said "cray-cray" at the end, so I have to dock him a lot of points and can't consider him a top ten character. But no worries! There's already a top ten AA character who originated in DD in 5-6 anyway!

Anyway, now the job is to prove that the walkie-talkie is actually Jack Shipley's, whose walkie-talkie has gone missing and would naturally get busted up pretty badly from a 65-foot drop. The key is the tooth marks on the walkie-talkie, which match the ones in the picture of Azura in DePlume's book. Rimes insists he's tried to take on Orla in a fight and she bit him and the walkie-talkie, which is absurd but he has holes all over his body to "prove" it (although they actually are the result of shark bites or something). However, Phoenix and Athena notice something strange about the tooth mark patterns, and now it's Revisualization time! Based on the two songs and the two different tooth mark patterns, Phoenix can only conclude...there are two different orcas here! The fact that Rimes has Shipley's walkie-talkie puts him at the scene at the time of death, and now we have the really cool breakdown of him looking like he's on a ship in a really bad storm, and then he sinks down into the witness stand and looks like a prisoner behind bars. "Once again...I'm too weak...to help anyone."

2016: Final Fantasy XV > Uncharted 4 > Spirit of Justice > Zero Time Dilemma > Steins;Gate 0 > Street Fighter V

Best year of gaming in a while for me

2017 seems to be following it up quite nicely, too.

I'm a Braves fan. I won't just sit and watch any random game, but I'll follow the Braves if they're worth following.

Which hasn't been for a few years now.
