Yeah. MHX is such a great remake. And the Vile mode was so much fun.

Hi everyone.

I wanted to post an update regarding the Mafia Championship (Season 4) taking place over at Mafia Universe. (http://www.mafiauniverse.com/)

A quick summary for those who weren't following:

165 communities were invited to nominate one of their members. I was chosen to represent board 8 and gamefaqs.

The 165 were split into 11 games of 15 players. A game of 12 vanillas/3 mafia was played, and all 15 players would vote +4/+3/+2 for their top three players. The top vote-getter moves on to the final game. With 11 games, that fills 11 of the 15 finals slots.

I played a game as scum, I got lynched on day 4 after being bussed by my partner. The game ended on day 7 (final 3) with a highly controversial result due to a debateably illegal/unethical vote that replaced the letter i with the lower-case letter L, and the voting system (automated via bot) on the site was immediately updated to prevent it from ever happening again.

The players voted for who they thought was the best player in the game (not MVP), the player they'd most want on their team in a future game for the best chance of winning. I tied for 2nd place. The 1st place winner was highly deserving and I voted for them.

The finals game filled up 11 of it's slots this way. But 4 more must be filled to reach 15. Two "Wildcard" games are held. A jury composed of last year's finalists pick 30 of the best players who didn't advance, for two more games of 15. And each of those games send 2 more players to the finals.

I was selected for Wildcards and played a second game. I posted a topic shortly before the game started to let people know about all of this.

This is the new part:

I was town this time. 12 Vanilla/3 Mafia. We lynched our first scum on day 3 with 11 players alive. We mislynched twice after that and reached a final 5 with two scum left alive. We were pretty confident we knew one of them, all the townies agreed that one person had to go. (They were scum) But one of the townies voted for another person they thought was partnered with that "obvious" scum, and the town lost. I didn't vote. But I made a guess at the scumteam too, at lylo, and my guess included the aforementioned "obvious" scum, as well as the townie who voted wrong, who I suspected as well. So in the end, the third scum slipped by both of us, I had them strongly townread.

The players voted on who they thought was the best player in the game overall, regardless of specific results and/or MVP status.

The scum player that evaded capture entirely and won at Lylo got the #1 spot with a huge number of points.

The #2 spot, which also advances to finals, went to me.

It was honestly a surprise, because like I said, I was part of the town who lost at Lylo, and the player I suspected wrongly was someone that many others thought was obvious town. (I had a few people mention that they thought suspecting that player was totally unjustified.) Granted, many of the people who felt that way also townread the final scum and suspected the mislynched townie instead. So it was a very tough game all around. I can go into more details if people want.

The players in this game were very good. The first game of 15 contained many players from sites that play mafia a lot more casually than us. This game, (almost) everyone was clearly a very strong player, and those who weren't were mostly only held back by activity, not skill level.

I'll answer other questions if people have them. It was the most intense game of mafia I've ever played, the most active game I've ever played. (130 pages of 50 posts each - that's about 13 full topics here. But the amount of words in those posts is WAY higher. Imagine novels. Constant walls of text.)

And ultimately, the most fun game I've ever played, though it consumed my life for three weeks.

Oh. I see the machine cart. It's one of the few times you can see a second secret area from another... but I don't know how to get there. But that gives me a way to narrow down roughly where the entrance might be, at least. So I may be okay.

Okay, I'm sorry to ask, but actually, can you tell me which rooms SS Exodus secrets 3 and 6 are in?

And also, which room is the cart in in Machine?

It's just not really fun for me to be re-exploring levels that I played 3 weeks ago, looking just for secrets. I normally like secret-hunting, but because it's been 3 weeks, my memory (and muscle memory) of the levels has dropped and replaying them feels kind of like a chore.

I swear I hadn't looked in Golgotha yet, I was just like "Uh, I missed only the last one, but I don't want to re-find the first 6 just so I can count them out and figure out where the 7th might be"

If I'd been playing 3 weeks ago, I'd just remember where I found the secrets so I would know where to start looking for the last ones. So I don't think it's unfair to ask.

But thanks for the hints in advance, haha. I'll try to find without. But I know I already looked through Hollow the other week and never found the 5th. Haven't done Golgotha yet so more hopeful there.

My only issue with stuff like Toms & Torture, from a gameplay perspective, is, no, it's not too hard, but it is hard enough that I'd want to take a break from it and come back after a bit, and you can't do that because you'd lose your progress.

So I have secret #2 in Wall of Sorrow.

I just went re-looking for #1, and I found a hidden area in level 3. But it was empty... Was that the one I already got? I don't remember.

Is #1 really in levels 1 or 2? Just a yes or no.

Again, it's only because my memory is failing me, so I have trouble remembering which areas I've been, which things in levels might be leading to a secret and which were just bandage locations, etc.

Coming back after a few weeks is tough because I don't remember the areas as well so I don't remember exactly where I found secrets.

Can you tell me which level Hollow secret #4 is? I have 1 to 4, I want to look for 5 but I honestly can't be bothered to re-find 1 to 4 so I can know which levels to start looking for #5 in.

I'm not done with TeiN but I'll add my opinion anyway.

I like TeiN more.

Just because, even though I really like Super Meat Boy and am a huge fan of this genre, I prefer games to feel a bit more "cohesive".

Super Meat Boy levels feel like a bunch of random obstacles just thrown together, in individual levels that vary in shape and size and generally don't really have any feeling to them other than "here's a bunch of stuff".

TeiN has very clear themes for each world, the overall aesthetic of the game works as a connecting thread, the story is more unique, and the levels are actually connected. You can actually tell what the themes are for each world, there is consistency in terms of obstacles that you'll learn throughout the world.

I'm probably not explaining it that well, and it HAS been many years since I played SMB.

I consider people who refuse to wear seat belts and demand that the seatbelt law be repealed to be on the same level as anti-vaxxers.

Harmful to themselves and everyone around them.

There are literally a million little dangerous things that someone can do that can be harmful to themselves and to other people around them. Should all of the other things have laws and fines attached to them? Sure, why not. lets go baby, let's regulate.

This is an argument that will never be settled and we will never see eye to eye.

99% of those "million little dangerous things" don't raise car insurance rates.

They also aren't on the road every single day for hundreds of millions of people

I haven't followed your topic at all. I just watched two minutes of a speedrun to see what this looked like and wow, it's just super meat boy, maybe a little slower. is there a sense of same-y-ness when you play this? like it doesn't feel all that original because super meat boy already did this about as well as you can do?

It feels different than Super Meat Boy, in my opinion. I'd say it feels about as different as it possibly could, considering how similar they are. If that makes sense. There are some big differences in core mechanics that make the gameplay "feel" different, and the focus of the level design is also different.

Jumper games are great, so you should play them, but the physics may be a bit outdated at this point. Hopefully they'll still be good for you.
