I don't think any of those things are bad or worthy of mockery. I think the people who take umbrage with them are the real problem. If someone wants to devote a Facebook post to talking about a cause they believe in, or change their pic in solidarity, more power to them.

It does nothing to address the fundamental problem behind the tragedies. It's just a hollow, feel-good gesture that is basically exploiting tragedy and social malaise in a narcissistic manner.

The same people that chanted "I'm with her" in 2016, had also chanted "black lives matter" starting in 2012, as though the "her" they're with didn't have a hand in facilitating the racially motivated genocide and outright enslavement of countless black lives in Libya.

There's no brainpower, no effort, and truly no decency in idly signaling one's "virtue" to the world.

Trump really shouldn't be trying to take credit for the economy he inherited from Obama.

Because should - or rather, when - collapse occur due to some unforeseen side effect of the regulatory mechanisms imposed on the economy (or his removal of such a regulation leads to a significant correction), he'll receive blame and likely hand things over to democrats in the next election.

Reagan had the sense to wait until 1984 before taking credit for the economic upturn.

it doesn't change the fact that it is wrong and intrinsically inefficient

the institutional endorsement of balkanization would also be more than enough to empower the morons of all sides to act in an aggressive manner, and violence or no, millions would suffer needlessly

the bottom line is that if you want to fix racial issues, stop subsidizing institutions that proliferate racial separatist ideologies or programs that absolve individuals or groups of the need to assimilate in society to survive and prosper, and liberalize the market to remove age-old barriers to economic efficiency/prosperity

Maybe like make special areas that each race can exist unbothered by others optionally? I dunno I didn't say it was a good idea. I wanna know if it could help.

it's a horrible, horrible idea, period

if you want to see what the rollout of segregation into group-specific areas looks like, look at the partitioning of india - hundreds of thousands of people died, often violently, just migrating to their designated "region" (hindustan, pakistan)

and that divide was just religious

re-institution of de jure segregation is pants-on-head stupidity

i'm on the fence about voluntary association in the private commercial realm, probably makes more sense from a libertarian standpoint, though i'd hate to empower racists like that

so i'm cool with antidiscrimination policy in the commercial/employment realm but voluntary association in the private equity realm, granted contracts are respected

defunding public universities and public sector unions would likely do wonders for social cohesiveness, since the former is a source of progressively-driven racial animosity and other post-marxist nuttery, while the latter puts way too much power in the hands of law enforcement (and educators / educational bureaucrats, but that's another rant in itself)

also, less corporate welfare for big media

How do you explain MLK then? He went through the same type of society and absolutely refused to accept this temptation regarding violence and black supremacy.

MX's family was persistently harassed by the Klan, personally, for civil rights activities in a rural area.

His father was murdered by the klan, tied to train tracks and run over as such.

It was ruled a "suicide", and his family was denied his father's life insurance as such.

The stress of dealing with all of this led to his mother having a nervous breakdown, and he and all his siblings were put into foster care.

MLK, coming from a middle class church family in a semi-enlightened southern city, had it quite easy compared to what Malcolm X dealt with.

put enough pressure on political leaders that they had to work with MLK on the Civil Rights Bill whether they really wanted to or not.

In reality, many political leaders had been on board for quite a while, north and south, but politics got in the way.

George Wallace's mentor (and a previous governor of Alabama) advocated desegregation as early as the 1930s-1940s, however unsuccessfully.

Wallace himself ran on a much more moderate and colorblind platform in his earlier Alabama political campaigns - but lost since it was unpopular with the large swaths of ignorant racist voters, leading him to unfortunately embrace racist politics for political gain (to the detriment of his legacy).

Goldwater was a founding member of the Arizona chapter of NAACP, and supported the 1957 Civil Rights Act, but took objection to a couple sections of the 1964 Civil Rights act which he felt gave the federal government too much reach, which unfortunately absolutely destroyed his presidential prospects.

The rest of the Republican portion of congress voted almost universally in favor of the '64 CRA (as well as the assorted previous Civil Rights Acts they had introduced), while the Democrats/Dixiecrats created biggest roadblock, as they always had done. LBJ sabotaged many civil rights attempts in his years as a congressman, before finally "embracing" civil rights as president once legislation landed on his desk in order to secure his re-election.

In reality, it was just political good-cop-bad-cop.

What helped black people get equal rights was Booker T. Washington's ethos in action, which facilitated accomplishment of such a magnitude that it just made segregation and racial discrimination look increasingly stupid.
