SEOUL — American military planners in South Korea have developed a solution to avoid civilian casualties in the event of a war with North Korea, sources confirmed today.

“If this thing ever kicks off with North Korea, Seoul is gonna get slimed with all sorts of chem, hammered with artillery, and maybe even a nuke,” said Lt. Col. Jim Johnson, a planner with US Forces Korea. “No matter how long we looked at the problem we just couldn’t think of a way out of this mess.”

Then inspiration struck.

“I was on vacation on Jeju Island,” said Maj. Kent Strickland. “And I thought this place is perfect. It’s like three hundred miles away from North Korea. Way out of artillery range. If we just moved the city down here our problems would be solved.”

When it was pointed out that Seoul was a city of 10 million people that would be impossible to move, Strickland brushed it off: ”Man that’s just logistics,” he said. “Let the J4 figure that out.”

Logistics planners in the J4 section could not be reached for comment.

Sources say officers in the J5 Plans Section have already put together an information paper that lays out the concept for the USFK Commander, Gen. Vincent Brooks. Brooks has reportedly pitched the idea to the Chairman of the Joint chiefs and the White House, which reacted favorably.

The planners hope to quickly kick the problem over to the J3 Operations Section for implementation once the concept is just complete enough to be found infeasible, sources said.

HOUSTON — As if the city of Houston hasn’t seen enough tragedy due to catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey, things took a turn for the worse today after a U.S. Navy ship collided with a building in the downtown area.

The ship was identified as an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer belonging to the Navy’s 7th Fleet.

It was unclear why the destroyer was not able to see the building and take evasive action, or why it was over 20 miles inland and trying to navigate through a major metropolitan area.

“I had climbed up on my roof due to dem risin’ flood waters, when I saw a big ship sailin’ down the street,” said Georgia Brown, a resident who witnessed the incident. “I says to myself ‘Oh Lawdy, someone’s done come to rescue us!’ and then it sails right past my house and smack straight into that yonder building.”

This marks the fifth collision incident this summer for destroyers from the Navy’s beleaguered 7th Fleet, following incidents involving the USS Fitzgerald, USS John S. McCain, and the USS Ted Kennedy.

The Navy declined to comment on the cause of the collision, citing an ongoing investigation, although it did say the captain had been promptly relieved of his command.

Despite reticence from the Navy, a senior defense official speculated the ship had likely veered off course from its patrol route in the South China Sea.

Navy officials say they are planning a number of PowerPoint trainings related to urban maritime navigation.

http://newschannel20.com/news/nation-world/delivery-without-drivers-dominos-ford-team-up-for-test-08-29-2017

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — No ring of the doorbell, just a text. No tip for the driver? No problem in this test, where Domino's and Ford are teaming up to see if customers will warm to the idea of pizza delivered by driverless cars.

Starting Wednesday, some pizzas in Domino's hometown of Ann Arbor will arrive in a Ford Fusion outfitted with radars and a camera that is used for autonomous testing. A Ford engineer will be at the wheel, but the front windows have been blacked out so customers won't interact with the driver.

Instead, people will have to come out of their homes and type a four-digit code into a keypad mounted on the car. That will open the rear window and let customers retrieve their order from a heated compartment. The compartment can carry up to four pizzas and five sides, Domino's Pizza Inc. says.

The experiment will help Domino's understand how customers will interact with a self-driving car, says company President Russell Weiner. Will they want the car in their driveway or by the curb? Will they understand how to use the keypad? Will they come outside if it's raining or snowing? Will they put their pizza boxes on top of the car and threaten to mess up its expensive cameras?

"The majority of our questions are about the last 50 feet of the delivery experience," Weiner told reporters last week.

Domino's, which delivers 1 billion pizzas worldwide each year, needs to stay ahead of emerging trends, Weiner says. The test will last six weeks, and the companies say they'll decide afterward what to do next. Domino's is also testing pizza delivery with drones.

Weiner said the company has 100,000 drivers in the U.S. In a driverless world, he said, he could see those employees taking on different roles within the company.

Ford Motor Co., which wants to develop a fully driverless vehicle by 2021, said it needs to understand the kinds of things companies would use that vehicle for. The experiment is a first for Ford. But other companies have seen the potential for food deliveries. Otto, a startup backed by Uber, delivered 50,000 cans of Budweiser beer from a self-driving truck in Colorado last fall.

"We're developing a self-driving car not just for the sake of technology," said Sherif Marakby, Ford's vice president of autonomous and electric vehicles. "There are so many practical things that we need to learn."

Only one car will be deployed in Ann Arbor, and it has a special black-and-white paint job to identify it as a research vehicle.

Customers in the test area will be chosen randomly when they order a pizza, and will get a phone call to confirm they want to participate. If they agree, they'll get a text message letting them know when the vehicle is pulling up and how to retrieve their food.

http://www.dailywire.com/news/20299/california-moves-jail-people-who-use-wrong-pronoun-emily-zanotti

California legislators are set to vote this week on a bill that could criminalize using the wrong pronoun to refer to a transgender individual.

The bill, which passed the California state senate in May, has moved into the California state assembly as part of a slew of gender-based "anti-discrimination" laws designed to protect California residents who don't believe they fall into the gender binary.

Titled the "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Long-Term Care Facility Residents Bill of Rights," the new law would allow transgender individuals living in care facilities like nursing homes to use bathrooms in line with their preferred gender (not necessarily their biological gender), and would punish any caregiver who "knowingly" uses the wrong gender pronoun to refer to one of their patients.

Use "he" instead of "she" and you could face a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail for gender-based discrimination and harassment. The law, which says "knowingly," does not seem to identify a specific standard, leaving interpretation of motive up to authorities.

Unsurprisingly, free speech advocates and faith-based care facilities are upset about the development, partly because they would be compelled to act in a way that defies their religious dogma and partly because there's absolutely no way the state will limit the bill's protections just to care facilities.

“How can you believe in free speech, but think the government can compel people to use certain pronouns when talking to others?” a representative of the California Family Council testified to the assembly late last week.

The state senator who authored the bill, Scott Weiner, was particularly vocal when it came to exempting religious organizations from the law: he wasn't going to do it because, he claimed, religion has no place in public life.

“Everyone is entitled to their religious view,” Weiner said. “But when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law.”

Fortunately, in this case, the law — at least, the larger law and the Constitution — may be on California residents' side.

According to law professor Eugene Volokh, the law itself seems too vague, and it's likely California wouldn't strictly interpret the law and limit their enforcement to nursing home caretakers only. Its "pretty unlikely that, if this law is enacted, such prohibitions would be limited just to this scenario," he told National Review.

That would mean California could face litigation once they start enforcing the rule, and precedent isn't on California's side.

http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/08/25/usc-white-horse-mascot-traveler-racist-symbol-students-say

Some students are claiming USC's longtime mascot, a white horse, is a racist symbol.

The horse is named Traveler, which was also the name of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's horse. The name was called out recently by a leader of the USC Black Student Assembly at a rally following the Charlottesville riots.

The Los Angeles Times reported:

At the rally, according to the student newspaper the Daily Trojan, Saphia Jackson, co-director of the USC Black Student Assembly, asked students not to be quiet, and reminded that “white supremacy hits close to home” and referenced the name of the Trojans mascot.

The Black Student Assembly did not respond to requests for comment, but questions about the name’s provenance have increased on social media in the midst of the national discussion on race.
