Feels weird that we've reached the stage where a fight between mayweather and some ufc fighter is bigger the Rock vs Cena.

The rock was a bigger name than either of these guys and WWE used to be really good at building PPVs up.

If you told me 5 years ago that the ufc would produce a fighter that could generate this level of interest, I would have called you crazy. Brock at his peak wasn't this.

People are willing to pay buckets to watch charismatic people beat the hell of out each other, especially if it's a freak sideshow mismatch. Of what little I've seen of McGregor, he's hardly the best fighter in UFC. He's just good at pissing people off in an almost comedic way, and people gravitate to that...I guess. Mayweather's done the same thing (save the shitty fighter part), so it's a match made in retirement nest egg heaven.

Now, why people are willing to throw their life savings away on tickets or PPV? That's on idiot consumers who lap this shit up. As I said before, $100 is just plain dumb. If nothing, it proves WWE throws money away with the Network. Sustainability versus risk/reward profit I suppose.

I wanted to get hyped for Mysterio/Mundo for the LU Underground Championship. However, after two months of MMA style hype packages calling it the biggest match in the promotion's history (which is valid), they spent 20 minutes building to a potentially 4-star match, and spent 2 minutes utterly destroying it.

It wasn't going to be the best match ever, but holy crap did it end up being shit.

I mean, there IS that, but the original had like 1 racing type thing, and then a bunch more, "Could you get this thing from this dungeon for me?" or "Let's train." GU at least lets you do sidequests that involve fighting enemies or finding items in overworld maps and such. It even has a card game. Both games have a serious problem of "You gotta get to the bottom of the dungeon to finish this part." What I wouldn't give to just show up at the start of a place, get some story, and leave.

Hence why that bugs me so much.

GU is one of the better games as far as PS2 RPGs go, but if you hate randomly generated dungeon sameness, stay away. It does way better than the original games in terms of atmosphere and gameplay.

Characters and story? Toss up. Both .hack games tend to follow the same plotline. Kite is a better main character than Haseo (less brooding and annoying). But dear god, even for early PS2, the originals are dated as shit. You also avoid some seriously bullshit boss fights. They are item attrition nightmares.

At least GU had the sense to add in an extra fighting mechanic once in a while.

If I had to break it down a bit more, here's what I figure.

Story - Equal
Main Character - IMOQ
Female Lead - IMOQ (because being a slightly badass fighter chick is always better than being a doofy idiot)
Support Characters - GU (Everyone is tied to the main plot somehow, aside an idiot comic relief dumbass)
Villains - GU (Easily)
Gameplay/Grinding - GU (again, easily; faster, less cooldown, and more variety)
Dungeons - Equal (both games really suck at this)
Sidequests - GU (sidequests in the originals are just MORE dungeons hooray!)
Music - Equal

Outside of 1-2 of the subplots in the original games (which actually tie into characters in GU, there's no reason to play the original four games when this is getting re-released. You'd be subjecting yourself to more samey dungeons, and some in that game are insufferable, due to being 5-10 floors with certain enemies that stall progress. At most, GU caps itself at 3-4 sublevels. Stupid to be sure, but still better.

I mean, he's fine as a guest on like Austin's podcasts, but his analysis and lines of questions to his own guests is seem to be like double time, as if he's fishing for a certain response instead of letting things trail off naturally like the more comedic podcasts do. That said, it's not as if the Observer is foolproof. Too much of Dave's speaking (does he have some sot of speech disorder or something?) can drive me up the wall.

Nothing beats the Retro Raw/Nitros though: nothing. It must feel like agony to relive utter shit that was pawned off as greatness because we were kids.

I'm listening to Wade Keller for the first time. I like the lack of cynicism and almost "defeatism," plus the intention of reviewing shows with an eye on character dynamics, but he's got serious issues.

"Is this guy over? Can this guy work as a face, even if his work predisposes him as a heel? What does the future hold for this guy?"

The problem is this is NOT as breezy nor informative as Wrestling Observer and almost all other shows. Breaking down who the characters or wrestlers are, but he sets up things, but leads guests into questions, instead of leaving things open.

I don't think I'm going to stick with this, given I have other, better ones that don't go nuts over the "two sides" things.

I don't think any of the English VAs aren't available. I know some are pushing or over 60 (Kirk Thornton and Mary E. McGlynn for example), but I still hear a ton of the actors in games and anime to this day. Freeman was in SO5 recently. Are they re-recording lines (like Persona 3 Portable), or is this for the "Vol. 4" thing?

Either way, this should be fantastic. This game series would have been fantastic if they had cut the need for grinding. I doubt it gets away from "too many of the same dungeons," but at least I won't have to fuck around trying to level to 150 if I don't need to.

On a week where the eyes of the fight world are on the UFC lightweight champion making his debut in a boxing ring, a budding megastar with a troubled past has once again given the UFC a black eye.

TMZ is reporting Tuesday night that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol and has been stripped of the title he won by knocking out Daniel Cormier last month at UFC 214 -- his first fight back since coming off a one-year ban for his first USADA violation. A second positive failure could mean up to a four year ban from the sport.

UFC confirmed the news, saying the positive test was taken on July 28th after Jones weighed in.

Yahoo's Kevin Iole said Jones hasn't been stripped of the title yet and that a statement from his team is coming.

After several years of incidents with the law and the USADA violation, Jones looked to have finally won the fans back after his impressive effort over Cormier. The expectation was that he would fight former opponent Alexander Gustafsson at some point this year and move up to heavyweight for a megafight against WWE Universal Champion and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in 2018.

If Jones is indeed suspended, a Cormier-Gustafsson rematch is appealing as well as a Cormier-Volkan Ozedemir fight given the latter's recent propensity for knockouts.

MC: Welcome everyone to this special book signing. We here at Karnes and Gnoble are happy to have brokered a deal to sell autobiographies and merchandise from the absolute pinnacle of sports entertainment, the UCA! As you know, this organization has provided hard-hitting, drama-fueled action for over 10 years. We were thrilled to hear that one of its greatest wrestlers not only decided to write the first UCA book, in which we hope to be many more, but to appear here for a meet-and-greet for his most diehard fans. He was a former singles champion many times, and also tag team champion with the likes of ZeroSignal620! You know him as the "Fan Favorite of UCA"...THE KNIGHT OF NEE!

*Strife stands up from the diner and gets in line, making sure to cover his face with a hood. After about 15 minutes, Strife approaches the security guys and grabs the book: Fanning the Flames: My UCA Journey. When he approaches Nee, he waits for Nee to sign it. As he does, Strife opens his hood, and then speaks.*

Strife: Mind if I get one for ZSig too?

*Strife unleashes hell on Nee’s face with the pipe, sending Nee, the pile of books, and the table flying. Security attempts to stop him, only to get kneecapped for their troubles. Crowd members in line, store cashiers, and other workers flee the store, but not before calling the cops. Nee gets pummeled back and forth with shots to his face, until his nose and orbital bones are broken. Nee stumbles trying to get away, but Strife throws the table onto Nee’s legs so he can’t get away. Strife spots an 8-9 foot tall aisle full of books in line with Nee’s body. Strife goes to the other side, musters his strength, and begins shaking and toppling the aisle. Many of the books fall onto Nee’s body as he tries to squirm away, and then…the entire aisle falls on top of Nee. He’s pinned under mass amounts of debris. Sirens and alarms are going over all over the place.

Nee’s hand is sticking out the destroyed pile, and Strife steps on it, before taking one of the signed books*

I hope ZSig likes my gift. Even if he doesn’t, this trip was still worth it.

*Cops start swarming the place, but by then, Strife was long gone. Paramedics rush the scene, and Nee is left in a heap of broken bones and blood*

He had a huge push in 2011, recently stat padded the hell out of the IC title, and made the case to be a WWE Hall of Famer (like a fringe 2nd/3rd tier inductee).
