This is why people in the legal community were concerned with the decision in that case. It was a bull shit decision by the prosecutors office to charge the girl with homicide that ended up with a result that could set dangerous precedent. Most people expect it to be overturned on appeal.

Its kind of funny how the bible belt has either dry counties or like no rules at all when it comes to booze.

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago for the start of the WSOP and went out a few times. Sapphire has a $50 cover now... way too much for a strip club. I had a good time but knowing that I'm going to spend a bunch inside its stupid to have that much of a cover, just kind of killed the mood when I got there (still spent like $400 on lap dances but Rhino is much better). Went to Club Omni at Caesars one night and that was much better and ended up better.

1. Someone was killed as a result of the defendant's actions.
2. The act either was inherently dangerous to others or done with reckless disregard for human life.

My initial post was obviously about the first element and not the reckless/negligent aspects of her actions. You can be as negligent or reckless as possible but if you don't cause the injury or death the action won't face criminal charges. The causation in this case is what is interesting and was probably the focal point for both teams, the judge, and the jury. I'm sure most people that have studied law to any extent are surprised that the prosecution was able to meet the burden required to convince a jury that her action was the cause of his death.

In some states there are specific laws against helping or aiding someone kill themselves. They were created because of the causation issues with charging someone with any kind of homicide for that type of activity. I don't know if those laws exist in Mass and would guess they don't just because she was charged with manslaughter instead. But the result of this decision is interesting from a causation stand point.

From a legal POV this is a pretty bad/crazy ruling. Not sure why she was charged with involuntary manslaughter or how a jury convicted her of it but I think she will appeal and/or try to get it retried and I would be surprised if a higher court doesn't reverse. Not sure how causation was argued but from a basic understanding there are some issues and the result is pretty surprising. Also, IMO the prosecutors should not stretch law this much to win a case.

A lot of times on the casino floor I will see newbs ask the cocktail waitresses for stuff when the waitress is dropping off drinks. They have two different modes, one where they are dropping off things people have ordered and the other where they will take orders. They don't take orders when they are dropping off drinks. Asking them for anything when the are dropping stuff off will sometimes get a bitchy response because when they have a tray with 30 drinks on it its pretty fucking obvious they can't stop to write down your drink order.

He is saying that crying on forums won't be very effective to change any publisher's behavior because the game has already been purchased by the people that are doing the complaining. He also suggests that so long as gamers keep buying games the publishers have no incentive to listen to their complaints.

Not just b****ing, actually taking action to do something. This is pretty common in the PC gaming community. While console gamers just have to take it up the ass, PC gamers can and will do pretty much whatever they want.

They'll still play the game, effectively making their protest moot in the first place. Gamer boycotts are the most tepid form of outrage in existence.

This makes no sense. If they already bought it, why shouldn't they play it? Its not like it takes an ongoing subscription. The important this is stopping further sales of the game, which the 83,000 negative reviews (23,000 recent ones) will do.

Because people haven't heard of GTA at this point and are going to consider what the reviews on Steam say before buying...

I get disagreeing with what TT is doing and wanting to think you are making a difference but its literally people that have already bought the game crying online. Its hardly new or novel.

I didn't say anything about throwing a straight ball or not. Either way you are just repeating the same exact motion with the same, never changing, variables (oil patterns might be different but still the same motion just changing force/direction, like hitting a 19 instead of a 20 on a dart board). I enjoy playing it but its clearly a very simple game compared to other games or sports that involve more variables and therefor require more skill. That's why its boring.

Its boring because its a simple game. You throw a ball the same distance at ten pins that are always in the same place. Its like darts, or horse shoes, or shooting events, you have to get good at a single motion and then you just do that over and over. With practice I think literally anyone that doesn't have a physical handicap can be good at it and it doesn't take much talent to be really good.

Given that Take Two do not have law making powers in this country, or any other country, I'm fairly sure this has not happened.

Its not about "law making rights," its about IP licensing rights. When we buy video games we are legally entering into a license agreement or contract to use software. The owner of the software or licensor (not us, the users or licensees) has a lot of legal rights regarding our use. I don't know about GTA's corporate set up but if Take-Two has rights over the IP they can certainly control how people do and don't use it.

Chess is super frustrating to me. I recently tried to get better. I had a goal of getting from my 1350-1400 up to above 1700 in a year. I ended up giving up because I got so mad when I would lose. Losing in chess is more frustrating than losing in anything else. It makes me feel so dumb. It's also something you cant avoid. There is always going to be someone better than you and I don't want to deal with losing all the time no matter how good I got.
