Amen. I don't think we need to copy off Reddit, in this aspect. And besides, when this idea was considered on the board Site Suggestions and also (now defunct) The Future of GameFAQs, it's repeatedly been rejected. I still think this isn't something that should be adopted for the message boards here, and my view hasn't changed.

Panda Express is delicious. Orange chicken is always on point. But I eat in Chicago where it's always super fresh due to high volume. Sbarros is garbage. Charged me $1.50 for a side of marinara sauce for my breadsticks that was more like tomato juice.

Amen to what you said about Sbarro. I totally agree they're very overpriced, and why I hardly ever eat there. The baked ziti is good, and once in a blue moon I'll go to Sbarro to order that. Otherwise, I don't eat at them much anymore. As it is, there already are a lot of great mom and pop pizza places all over the Chicago area.

Panda Express I like for a few menu items, but I've also been to some that were unusually bad in quality. As a result, I go to them far less than I used to, sadly. Especially sad when you find more PEs that are run really badly, vs. locations that are decent.

anyone who thinks white castle is bad has never been to a fucking krystals to see a worse version of the same thing

Funny White Castle and Krystal are mentioned in this thread. I can't stand the sliders at either place, but some of their non-slider items are tolerable. I'm not sure what some of the newer such items at Krystal are like(since I only have infrequent chances to eat at them on road trips in the South), but White Castle has some surprisingly good items such as a waffle sandwich. And I like some of WC's other items too, such as chicken rings and also fish nibblers. On a side note back to sliders, my favorite ever such places where I had a slider was at Hinkle's in Madison, IN(this is an Ohio River town inbetween Cincinnati and Louisville), and also Texas Inn in Lynchburg, VA(get a cheesy western, it's amazing!). I believe Texas Inn also has a 2nd location in Roanoke, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

So TL;DR: STAY AWAY from the sliders, and order their non-slider items. Another bonus, is now you can order the breakfast items(underrated IMO) all day.

Yep! Don't forget Baskin Robbins, which DD also owns. Ugh, they are also shit as well. Like I said DD only has 1 item I like at all(the Smoked Sausage sandwich), which isn't even a permanent menu item to my knowledge. I think they only serve that once or twice a year, sadly.

I think I've one ever tried like two sandwiches from dunkin and they were both awful. Their donuts are never fresh either. They always taste like they've been sitting out for two days. And their coffee sucks too. Just all around terrible

In case I didn't say it earlier, I'm pretty sure Dunkin trucks their donuts to most of their locations, from one or 2 locations that makes them en masse for numerous local locations nearby. Funny story is that my friend lived near a DD that used to bake donuts for all the local DD locations nearby, and the aroma late at night when I went by there would always smell really nice. Now DD no longer bakes the donuts from that location, and I miss that aroma I'd smell late at night from when donuts were being baked there. :(

Oh geez, CiCi's is a contender. And it reminds me of another buffet place - Country Buffet (I think known as Hometown Buffet in other places), which might also be worse. Haven't heard of McAlister's. BK is pretty bad but not worse, the rest I like.

Blimpie. There is no way their "food" is considered fit for human consumption. I wouldn't even feed it to my dog if he was starving to death and it was the only thing available.

I don't think I've ever eaten at one, but I've generally heard bad things

Funny you mention Cici's, since I've always wondered what they were like myself. I once tried to talk a few friends I knew into going into Cici's, but I have no darned clue why they didn't want to go there. It's really cheap, and for whatever reason his group of friends always seem to go for cheaper places. I'll probably go to that one on my own, at some point.

For Country Buffet, I'm assuming you mean Old Country Buffet. Which was extremely bad going into the final years of the one near me being open, and I feel no loss that this particular OCB location near me closed down a year or 2 ago. Honestly I stopped wanting to eat there, when the food went downhill something like 10 or 15 years ago. Ditto with Ryan's, which the company owning OCB and Hometown Buffet also owns. Golden Corral for whatever reason, always was better IMO. Though I'm still afraid to dip any food items into the chocolate wonderfall, due to how kids seem to dip their fingers too close to that thing. :)

For the remaining ones, I never had any problems with McAlister's Deli. Always liked them myself, including their desserts too. Maybe that poster ran into a badly managed McAlister's? I don't go to Burger King often, though once in an infrequent while I will go to one for the few items I like, such as the Croissan'wich. Wish BK would serve their breakfast items all day, a la White Castle, Sonic, Jack in the Box, and McDonald's. And I agree with that poster on Blimpie, ate at one years ago and it was nothing special. Not the worst ever chain I've eaten at, but still pretty forgettable.

IMO, the bottom tier of fast food is something like this:

Little Caesar's - Basically any other pizza place is better.
Sonic - I once got a slice of lime in a cup of ice when I ordered a lime slush.
KFC - Nothing they make is good.

Little Caesar's isn't my fav pizza chain, and there are others I like more such as Jet's. However I prefer them, over(yes) Domino's. It's good for cheap pizza, that hits the spot if you don't want to spend a lot of money. And I like their breadsticks(erm, Crazy Bread). Sonic's breakfast items are good, and I don't mind that the slushes sometimes have lime bits in them. If it was like a seed, I'd spit that out, since those tend to be among the better things one can get at Sonic, along with(not to forget) their tots. Always get that over fries, if you're going to Sonic for your first time. And amen on KFC, that's another chain that went downhill years ago. :(

I really dislike Subway. I can tolerate the teriyaki chicken at Panda Express but yeah it's pretty low-tier.

Ugh, yep Subway now has become my least favorite fast food chain. Along with also Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins, as well. Subway has really blah sandwiches. DD has donuts that are(more than likely) trucked in from somewhere else that baked the donuts and are probably old by the time you order one, and ditto with the drinks that too often don't click with me, and ditto with their sandwiches and food. The Smoked Sausage sandwich aside, being the lone food item I've ever ordered there that I liked. I still don't think that's permanently on DD's menu and is just an item they only bring back like once or twice a year(sigh), but correct me if I'm wrong. Panda Express has a few items I'll eat once every blue moon, though I don't go there the way I used to anymore. Like another person said in this thread, I'm not sure if it's the employees they hire, or the fact I wonder if I'm no longer into their food vs. years ago. Somehow, I'm increasingly thinking it's the latter for Panda Express. :(

Not to forget Baskin Robbins, which is also blah. Every time I've tried their ice cream in the past, and also(including when I was dragged by someone else, ugh) in more recent years as well. And screw the fact I couldn't find a single location doing polar pizza samples, the day they were doing that event not long ago. It's not very surprising to me either, that Business Insider(or one of site rating fast food) gave them one of the worst ratings of any fast food chain, not long ago! With all the MUCH better ice cream/custard places out there(i.e. Oberweis, Jeni's(overpriced but I'll admit they're good), Ben and Jerry's(hate how almost all their local ice cream shops are gone, except Navy ), Culver's, plus mom & pop ice cream or custard places like Brown Cow, Capannari's, Scooter's), why bother going to BR? They deserve their worst chain rating!

Meanwhile I'm SHOCKED at all the Arbys hate. Seriously I have eaten at probably 20+ arbys and only had one that I didn't really like the quality of their food. I am not a fan of their curly fries either (their old fries where much better), but I love their Gyros, and their roast beef sandwiches have always been better for me then making my own from the store (and usually cheaper with deals/coupons etc). I generally get the 3 for 5$ regular roast beef special and then split the roast beef from the third between the two sandwiches. Very filling, yummy, and only $5.

Olive garden is crap.....with a range of how horrible (but not a big range it only gets up to medium quality). That being said it is fairly cost efficient if you buy the sauce to go, or if you get the 16 meatball to go special for $12 (especially since they cover it with enough meat sauce to equal a side of sauce that normally goes for $4 as well). Their meatballs are not bad at all, and unlike places like subway, togos etc, they actually cook them in a meat sauce and keep them submerged/covered with sauce (even when they pack it to go for you), adds a ton more flavor. I hate when they microwave meatballs (like at subway/togos) and then just cover them with sauce at the end...blech). So Olive garden can be a good deal if you order the right stuff.

Not sure why Arby's always gets talked negatively about, by some. A la Taco Bell, too. I think there are far worse chains, than either myself. The thing about Arby's is that you should avoid the sandwiches on the very menu, and go for the sandwiches that cost more. I especially love their Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, myself! It's sad how few Arby's remain in Chicagoland, since I've always loved them myself.

I agree with you on Olive Garden, too. Haven't tried their never ending pasta/meatball deal, but maybe I will try that someday?

Get a fast pass, my dudes

Amusement parks are more fun than baseball games

Or even better, pick an off date where it isn't so crowded, where you won't miss not having a fast pass. I like the idea of such a pass, but hate how very expensive they are.

Some amusement parks do let you in slightly early before the general public if you stay at a hotel/motel/resort they operate nearby, such as Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. I recently learned when I was just googling things, that Disney actually has an app that mentions real-time lines for their rides. I wish Six Flags or Cedar Fair would develop such an app, but I won't hold my breath they'd do this. Especially if it affected 'fast pass' sales.....

Back to the topic, I do enjoy baseball. But I'd have to say amusement park, for sure. I kinda miss full fledged traditional amusement parks, since I hadn't gone to one in so darned long. And basic carnival rides(i.e. what some churches will do to raise money), don't cut it for me!

And most amusement parks I've been to(have trouble thinking of any that aren't this way?), do let you walk out of the park to take a break(i.e. if you brought a lunch to eat in your car, which saves money on the super expensive concessions inside the park), then go back in.

Those students really are crazy SJWs, for demanding this one professor to resign. Maybe he does have a different viewpoint about something, but it's crazy to not respect the right of one to have free speech, and possibly a different viewpoint from other students.

LOTS of reading stategy guides, in the pre-internet and pre-FAQs days. Or to a lesser extent, sometimes video game magazines when they had a special issue on strategy for beating a certain game. Tips and Tricks(RIP to that magazine) was really great, when it came to special issues on certain games. Usually it was a few games that were covered, each issue.

Gotta admit I NEVER called a single one of those 900 numbers for video game help, though they often were advertised heavily years ago in video game instruction booklets. Did that many video gamers ever call those 900 numbers for help, anyway? Have to admit with all the strategy guides and FAQs I saw in the late pre-internet and early internet days(and before Youtube "Let's Play" videos on video games became big), that I never felt tempted to call one of those 900 numbers for help. I'd just stop playing a game and take a break from it, if I became too frustrated in trying to beat that particular game. But that's just me.

Public transit is cheaper for sure, but the annoying thing about that is that sometimes you end up having to deal with really weird and sketchy people on the bus or subway. I mean I'm used to that since I live in Chicago, but I see why others may not want to deal with that.

I'd probably use Uber/Lyft more often, if I made more money. Sometimes I am tempted to use ridesharing over taking a city or suburban bus, if I have enough money in my account. Too often I don't, only because my bank account has less money in it than I prefer. And I totally understand for some people, that it's better for them to not own a car if they can walk to a lot of things nearby, and rarely ever have to drive to places. Of course it's often expensive to rent a car(and moreso than even using Uber/Lyft to go somewhere), so that's a factor to consider if one is debating giving up their car. I do like Uber X(that mode of Uber) a lot, and I'm sure I will try Lyft out soon enough.

I'd rather not do SSDI, to be honest. I just wish my parents were more supportive of me, since whenever I try to do things for myself, they sometimes are reluctant and (pathetically) dismiss ideas I was seriously looking into(I.e. plumbing apprenticeship programs that one local union does, veterinary assistant training program at this one community college, etc). Long story short(though it sounds weird), I think my parents too much hold it against me that I dropped out of a 4 year college where I thought things would work out for me about a decade ago. :( And I really wish they'd stop poo-pooing and dismissing decent ideas for career training programs, I read up about online.

I really do try to pursue things and look into possible career training programs, but don't like how I wish they'd support me more. There are a lot of things I've thought about, and I'm sure eventually I'll get my life onto more of that track. Honestly I'd rather find my way into some sort of reliable career(even if it wasn't the highest ever paying job), over SSDI. Since I don't want to be stuck in this same rut without a decent career, forever. And I know my parents can't support me forever....

A friend of mine does get SSI, so sometimes in the back of my mind I've wondered if I should apply for that. I think the only rule if you get such income, is that it limits how many hours you can work. I know, but most still think of it as Mr. Pibb. Such as myself. Once in a while, I even still see the Mr. Pibb stickers on soda fountain machines.

how is it somewhat policed? I've never seen it checked

My theaters sometimes had an usher waiting when you'd come out which I assume was only there to make sure you weren't walking into another film. You'd also occasionally see ushers walk into theaters with flashlights.

I could see that happening with like 1-2-3 screen theaters...but the typical theater I go to is the normal AMC multiplex where the hallways are legit devoid of any employees once you pass the ticket counter.

The one I used to go to is an AMC.

The bigger multiplexes, are usually the easier ones to sneak between theaters. The smaller ones(i.e. old fashioned 3 or 5 theater only theaters, where I can only think of a few such theaters like that left), not so much.

Who the fuck uses video stores anymore

there's a bunch of family video stores by me and in the midwest still

Family Video is mostly the only rental store chain, that's hung on anywhere nowadays. Since Hollywood/Movie Gallery(both chains did briefly merge together, but went out of business after that), and *Blockbuster closed everywhere years ago.

*- I'm aware a few very, very rare Blockbuster franchisees operate, but they're very few and FAR between. And I think only something like 10-12 are left in the whole US.

As long as security isn't looking very closely, yes I will occasionally sneak into other movies to watch a few minutes of it. Theater prices have long gotten expensive for seeing movies(especially at night), on top of(obviously) concession prices. So I don't feel bad about doing it.

Luckily, the multiplexes I do this at usually don't check very closely, and it's surprisingly easy to do. As long as you look carefully for where employees are stationed and see they aren't checking closely, you're good to go for doing this.

I hadn't listened to any Soundgarden and Audioslave songs in a long time, and now I feel inspired to relisten to some of that over again.

I almost forgot about that contest, back in 2006. But I wouldn't be surprised, if that contest follows the best gaming year contest at some point.

I'd suspect it's probably the average age of people voting, obviously. Where more people probably remember 2000 year games, vs. 1990. And that for some of those people, obviously they remember gaming from 2000, better than 1990. Which for some of them, may've mostly been before their time.

I predicted it earlier, that probably a year from the late 90s or early 2000s will be the ultimate winner of this contest. Wouldn't be suprised if a mid 2000s year won, for all I may guess. I don't think any of the 2010s years will be the ultimate winner, though.

Yeah, this. Even if you are one of the people who is banking on the significance of the NES (and arguably SMB), you have to consider what it's up against. 1985 never had a chance against "1985 but better".

I third this post. Of course 1987 was better vs. '85, since NES(and I think also Sega Master System, correct me if wrong) was only being launched in '85. And IIRC, the original Ninja Gaiden on NES came out that year. Another reason for me to vote '87! I'm not surprised this year is winning over '85, in the poll.

I didn't do a bracket, but my guess is that a year in the 90s or 2000s will win. If I had to bet more specifically, my gut feeling is that an early 2000s year(when PS2 was big) will ultimately win this. I also don't think it'd be impossible, if a mid or late 90s year won this contest.

I'm surprised Homer vs. the 18th Amendment didn't make this top 10. But I'm sure it was close, anyway. To Ogurisama, which episodes were #11 to #20 in their highest average score?

I ultimately voted for Treehouse of Horror V, the more I thought about my top 4(other 3 were You Only Move Twice, 22 Short Films, and Homer the Great) of these 10 that made this poll.

I did post a link for the google docs spreadsheet and you can review the data and find out. Atm i cant do it myself

Gotcha, I'll take a look at that sheet later. You're right, you did post a link to that in the first post of this thread!

Lemon of Troy, Trash of the Titans and Homers enemy.

I don't know what to vote for.

What he said, lol!

I narrowed my favorites down to You Only Move Twice, 22 Short Films, Treehouse of Horror V, and Homer the Great. Not sure of those 4, would be my very favorite. Sigh, I'll probably decide later.

I'm a little surprised Trash of the Titans made the top 10, though. That's a good episode, but I can name others I liked better(i.e. The Springfield Files, Itchy and Scratchy Land, Homer: Bad Man, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, Bart Sells His Soul, Bart's Friend Falls In Love to name examples). Ah well, opinions are one of those things people will never 100% agree upon!

Finally very long term cats are getting adopted, makes me happy

Not long ago, one of the senior cats that I worried would never get adopted(she had some sort of health condition which I forget what it was), finally did. Unfortunately, I'm not finding Chatty Catty's profile on petfinder.com at the moment, but maybe I'll find it later and post it accordingly here. I'm hopeful that another one of the senior cats who I enjoy seeing whenever I volunteer at the cat shelter I regularly volunteer at(and now have for 131/2 years, and 14 years as of August!), is adopted out soon(this senior female cat: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37272917 ).

I hadn't been able to confirm it, but I think one of my shelter's employees recently adopted a senior cat in another room, that I worried no one would ever adopt( https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/34521107 ). I'll ask a clinic person next time, about Kokoshka's status if she's still at our shelter or adopted out. Finally, I'm a big fan of visiting this FeLV cat, every time I visit my shelter due to the fact she's such a sweet cat: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37272847

Keep in mind hairless cats have much, much, much higher care requirements than normal cats will. You have to actually bathe them several times a week, can't let your dwelling get too cold, may need to dress them, and they're prone to a myriad of chronic health conditions.

I always forget about the chronic health issues of hairless cat breeds, and that they're more prone to not feeling well in cold temperatures vs. cats with short hair or long hair. Now I see why few people ever have any hairless cat breeds in their house, vs. cat breeds with hair!

I want an indoor cat that will shed as little as possible.
What kind should I get? Someone @ me.

These breeds don't seem too common, but if you don't mind a greater search for a cat shelter or breeder that raises cats of these 2 types, you always could look for a cat that's either a Peterbald or a Sphynx.

Ugh I hate the bad puppy mill-like practices of certain cat and dog breeders, but it is rare to find many cat breeds that don't have at least some hair on them. And I worry you'd probably have to turn to some sort of breeder, which hopefully wasn't too puppy mill like. And the appearance of this breeds, are often a little bit on the ugly side of things. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me(I'd probably look for a Sphynx or a Peterbald), but I could see how it could be for some people. Anyway:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphynx_cat
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterbald

More hairless cat breed types:

If you don't mind expanding your search to short hair cat breeds(and are often less ugly in appearance), here is an article on such breeds:

Is kitten season really a thing?

At my shelter, it definitely is. We go through periods where we don't have a lot of kittens for a while, then suddenly a lot will show up at the shelter with little warning. I wish it was easier for older cats to be adopted, since too often they get ignored and are always seemingly the last cats adopted out sadly to say.

Two of the cats I didn't think would ever get adopted finally did during January who are older, so there is hope after all! I hope that happens with another older cat, my shelter is trying to promote the adoption of. Which is here: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37272917

Another older cat was supposed to be fostered out to someone who takes care of a bunch of older cats herself, but I think that fell through for that person who wanted to do that sadly. This is the profile for that cat: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/34521107/

A cat topic. How was I not aware of this? Love the big orange lounging fluffball!

These are my two - Chester (foreground) and Cookie (background) - adopted at 8 weeks and now 14 years old. They still wrestle, chase toys, and get the zoomies although they're a bit slow up the stairs sometimes. They also love cuddles, lap and chest larceny, and vocally demanding attention. We usually wake up to at least one of them in bed with us.

Are these 2 cats boys, girls, or is one a boy and the other a girl? Great picture of both your cats! Glad they're still doing well at 14 years old. It still bums me out that my brother's former orange cat, Shosti, died in June 2015 when he was only a few months short of hitting 10 years old b/c of lymphoma. :(
