Regarding the ending of season one and Eleven

It bothers me she just straight up kills the monster and pretty much everyone. I like super powers, but I like them to be somewhat grounded or at least well defined. The show built up that El physically hurts after using her powers but the last episode just kinda has her go into God mode. It seems like whatever they face next season El can just go God mode again. I dunno.

Hadn't played AM2R because it was PC and I have a work Macbook. Realized I could just wineskin the app yesterday.

But yeah I grew up with Metroid 2 and have beaten the game dozens of times over the years. I know exactly where everything is, never had a problem with getting lost. What's even crazier is at one point I knew the layouts of the secret worlds and how to use them to skip from one part of the map to another. I don't know why but I really, really liked that game.

Thanks for your input by the way. I trust your opinion on Metroid games more than anyone.

Question- How close is the original level design to Metroid 2? I know that game like the back of my hand. Just started playing AM2R and it's pretty good, finished the first area and the level design is pretty much just straight Metroid 2 with a few quirks here and there. Is that how Samus Returns is or is it something else entirely?

Hmm, the sticky ball thing is telling enough. It worked in Prime with the tracks, but due to the nature of Prime that's understandable. Having tracks in Metroid 2 just seems all kinds of wrong.

Is the wall jumping something like in Metroid Redesign (if you've played that)? Sounds like it is just underwhelming.

Your complaint about gating areas seems weird considering that's how Metroid 2 was. Gated areas until you defeat Metroids and the lava lowers. I enjoyed that quite a bit considering each area was pretty extensive and you were free to explore the area (and get lost aimlessly) as you please. Are these areas or 'sectors' or whatever much more linear than they were in Metroid 2? I actually love Metroid 2 and consider it my second favorite Metroid after Super.

I find it hard to justify purchasing this game for $40 when I've been getting other 'indie' Metroidvanias that I've enjoyed more than most Metroid games for wayyyyyy cheaper. I do want to play it though and know there won't be a price drop ever. I'll wait and see what non-critics think I guess.

In all fairness, and I agree with you here, I feel like the bigger moral of the episode was how it relates to memory exaggeration, specifically in the part of Cartman and his ridiculous pseudo-memory 1-upping. The Kanye-Mencia storyline was fucking amazing and really insightful too, but damn... Craig's "Just give him what he wants..." speeches in retrospect hit me like I wish I had been hit with Kaiser Soze legends in The Usual Suspects before I had finished watching it :P

I should have clarified, I meant With Apologies to Jesse Jackson where the moral was 'I don't understand what it feels like'. But yeah, the Kanye episode is great too.

Also want to relay two stories

Summer in India pretty much all my Indian friends and coworkers referred to black guys as the N word. They didn't realize how offensive that was, claiming that they hear it all the time in rap songs and in movies. Didn't realize the origin or the context in which it is said and who can say it and why. Second, similar thing but with a professor from Turkey and her son. Came to the US and were shocked that the word has such power and is considered so offensive for similar reasons.

That doesn't mean pewdiepie is innocent, I fully believe he understands what the word means considering the position he is in and his international and American business dealings, but for those arguing that everyone knows it's a horrible word that simply isn't true.

Gathering Hall quests are, I'm fairly sure. At least I've read some threads on the 4U board from people with similar experience to me and being told to that more pop up after doing some gathering hall. I've completed all the available quests, though it is possible if I jump around to different towns something may have popped up that I missed. I'll check that out more thoroughly.

Thanks for the advice on Generations. Before I make the dive into it I'll play around with 4U a bit more, especially since it sounds like there are quite a few more monsters I haven't seen. Just getting real tired of every other mission involving a Rathalos or Congala.

Have 4U, got to like the 7 star caravan quests before the stopped coming because apparently I can't get more Caravan quests without doing some of the gathering hall missions. This effectively killed a lot of the momentum the game had since I had to start from the easiest ones in the gathering hall and just didn't care.

How's Generations? Worth it for the new areas and weapon arts? Fighting most monsters in 4U felt prett similar due to the majority of monsters being dragons or whatever. How's the monster variety?

Probably Bioshock. Everyone was hailing it as this revolutionary masterpiece that changed the way games tell stories and create atmosphere forever.

Instead it was a watered down System Shock 2 with rhe exact same story and plot twists but under water. And the idea of the tapes detailing the decline of society, even if it wasn't done in System Shock 2, had already been done way better in Metroid Prime.

Also, I love Preston Starry complaining to literally nobody about why he doesn't come here anymore and no one acknowledges him or cares.

Maybe you're right about Theon. It is a super personal arc but I do think we'll see Euron as king before the show ends- perhaps Cersei marries him just to spite Jaime.

Also I don't get the hype for Cleganebowl anymore. The Mountain hasn't done anything really in quite a long time and is still doing the oath of silence he took, if you believe that. He went from being a super interesting character to... a zombie in the worst sense.

Prediction-

Euron turns on Cersei, takes the Iron Throne either after they are married or maybe even right after returning with the Golden Company

Jaime is the one who ultimately kills the Night King. It's too predictable if it were Jon or Dany and the only other options are The Hound, Brienne and Jaime. I think it'll be Jaime because...

Arya will kill Jaime, steal his face, then kill Cersei. This is the only natural and fitting conclusion to her arc. If she does this before Jaime redeems himself it is a waste of Jaime's character which is why I believe he will kill the Night King.

I feel good about those theories. The person I can't really figure out how they get rid of is Euron. It has to end with Theon or Yara, likely Theon so he has some redemption. Part of me believing Euron overthrows Cersei or at least becomes king is because he needs to be in an enormous position of power for Theon's character arc to not be wasted. Whether Theon succeeds in defeating Euron I don't know, but it would be fitting if Theon and Yara saved the realm from political machinations while Snow and Dany save it from magical.

I've been thinking about late entry villains for TV shows in regards to Euron Greyjoy. Some shows have done this particularly well with Boon in Justified and the Nazis in Breaking Bad. I've been trying to think of why those examples work so much better than what we are getting with Euron who has been good for the most part but could have been great. I think it really just boils down to the quality of the writing but I can't quite put my finger on why that's the case. I dunno, just some random thoughts.

It's on Amazon Prime. The first episode is kind of like a CBS procedural, but a good one. After that, it's a serious heist show along the lines of The Sting with some funny moments. Writing and dialogue like something out of an Elmore Leonard novel which makes sense because of Yost. The writing is exceptionally clever and fairly unpredictable but never cheap or lazy.

Super duper great show spearheaded by Bryan Cranston amd the team behind Justified as well as some people from The Americans. It's about a con man assuming the identity of someone else, integrating into their family to rob them and use the money to save his brother from a super evil Cranston.

I assume it didn't catch on and explode like it should have because the first episode is tonally and stylistically different than the rest of the show, but man if you get to episode two you're golden. The entire writing and production team was replaced by Graham Yost and the Justified team for everything but the pilot!

I'm very much just ranting and raving with no coherence. Watch the show.
