A lot of Koreans are cynics, which makes them criticize the hell out of their government, their sports player, their heroes, etc. There are very few people left in Korea who left life un-ostracized. But their nationalism exists in day to day life, like pretty much trying to only use Korean products, only work with Korean people, be against overpopulation of other races in their country. Except the latter is instead welcomed when it's in few numbers. You the only Indian or African descent guy in a town full of Koreans? They'll love you and pamper you like crazy. Now you try to marry a Korean girl, and there might be a problem lel But yeah I guess it's hard for me to just overlook nationalism in media. I roll my eyes pretty hard at every opportunity, but if there's enough stuff where it's actually doing other stuff or not letting nationalism dictate their story, it's totally fine in my book. They're not all needed. If you attempt to do side quests at all, most of the hidden ones immediately stem from one to the other, and the most tricky ones aren't timed anyways. The ones easiest to miss with the shortest time frame, technically, are the ones in Gaur Plains near the Refugee Camp. If you finish the first Colony 6 quest and turn it in, a lot of them become unavailable. JSDF hasn't been relevant in decades, and I'm Korean, meaning Japanese nationalism smell like farts, hear like farts, etc. Partially also why I liked Mushoku which was fully willing to make light of things Japanese people glorify, like a single man's meal in soy sauce, raw eggs, and hot rice. It's actually a thing in Korea, too, and I don't mind this, but it was willing to say that this was just mediocre and isn't something to spend an entire series pursuing only for everybody but the main character to be disappointed at something so hyped over. In terms of Gate though, it's TOO nationalistic to the point where it gets in the way of the storytelling. To me, it sounds like the fantasy world is a bit of a jobber. When plenty of other series display magic to the extent of being as powerful as several nukes and much quicker at firing in succession, I find it incredulous that magic couldn't simply penetrate tanks and whatnot and simply just kill the people on the inside even without nuke level magic. And ultimately, a capable king of a kingdom is a more efficient form of government than a semi-democracy, just that a capable king is generally a myth, so it's odd to me that they'd be overwhelmed politically as well. And I thought the main character wasn't even a military person. He was just a military nut who happened to be better than everybody at doing military-y things without training. The games has tonnes and quite a lot of them just aren't worth the time it takes to do them. 2nd this, but mostly because doing all the side quests will severely overlevel you. XC1 is just better, but XCX does have pretty fun online component, and its battle system is technically faster. You also get to explore in a grander way, but XC1 has a better world. Death March has been always super boring for me, but if they rewrite it or use the manga version, I think it has potential. The problem is, Satou literally does like 2 things for a good 1/3 of the story, which the anime can probably barely cover. I think people might find this really really boring, but I guess it's up to the writers. Rewrite it. At least have Zena just accompany them from the start. There was literally like no reason she didn't tag along to begin with lol. Or this anime's gonna suck. Arifureta Drama CD:  I got baited hard. I thought this was gonna be an anime. A super grimdark Arifureta that focuses 4 eps on Hajime clearing the first dungeon, 2 ep on the shitty 2nd dungeon, 2 ep til they meet Tio, 2 ep on the 100k monster battle, 2 ep on classmate revenge, and you got honestly probably a really fun lil anime. And if you think by seeing the drama CD vid and thinking Yue is gonna be a cool character, you're wrong. I'm gonna say it for the bazillionth time. Don't get trapped by Yue. It's the best VN I've read so far, I daresay better than 999, which I previously thought to be the best VN. It's philosophical but not pretentious, and it has this love of literature and non-obvious parallels that speak volumes about how the characters think or even how the characters may have turned out to be. It also has one of the most graphic and accurate portrayal of bullying... The author spent a lot of time talking to people who were bullied, and a lot of the plot points are loosely based on real events. And they happen to characters that are incredibly likable, who don't deserve bullying in the slightest.
