As a temporary measure during economic contraction, subsidizing payrolls is an excellent way to mitigate mass unemployment.
However, the US government's administrative capabilities are severely atrophied and its political system almost entirely in thrall to the interests of massive corporations and the wealthy, so there are/will inevitably be a lot of corruption that ultimately weaken the effectiveness of any such program. However, actually doing these things regularly is part of the solution to being bad at them.

With that said, it is overall better to give direct aid to citizens as well, in the form of no-strings-attached cash payments.

Split paths would be fine if they were actually all developed (unlike 3H) and made sense (unlike Fates).

A base mechanism is fine, but it defies belief that your army is marching to and from the monastery every month, no matter how far away the battlefield is. I would prefer for this mechanic to stay, but most of the time you're just in an army camp that maybe has a bit less going on. And we need quick-menus, so we don't need to spend hours running around this big, mostly empty place doing random bullshit if we don't want to.

I also hope more limited class options return. 3H's mechanics made some sense with the setting and story-telling, but ultimately it meant there are optimal classes (Wyvern Lord LOL) and set-ups (why yes, I would love an ability to do +6 damage when attacking on literally every unit I have, thank you) and the characters who weren't great at those immediately become suboptimal.

I miss recruiting people, racing to grab chests before an enemy thief loots them or to save villages from bandits. It added a lot of tension to maps, even though it could be tedious at times glares at the chest placements in Whereabouts Unknown. It encouraged and rewarded risky, forward-thinking play conversely, recruiting Raven on that same map while saving the Caelin soldiers gets dicey in the best way on higher difficulties. I have to lure in the obligatory Killing Edge myrmidon with someone they can't insta-gib on crit, but it has to be some one who isn't going to murder the shit out of them on the counter, just so my squishy healer can talk to them. Those are the kinds of little puzzles Three Houses just doesn't present you with, and I do think it's weaker for it.

The map vastly underrepresents the day-to-day violence that trans ppl have to deal with everywhere.
That's not what the map is depicting at all: it is depicting whether that state has enacted or seemingly has the political will to enact anti-trans legislation vs. which states have laws on the books protecting trans rights, and assessing the risk of those in between of doing the former.

But Super Metroid is also a pretty great entry-point. You just might struggle to figure out how to get into Maridia. And probably get lost in Maridia for a little while.

Yes, I'm going to bump this, but I need to add: transphobia is rooted in patriarchal gender norms. In other words, it is rooted in misogyny. It is also rooted in the idea that men are inherently predators. And it also assumes that trans men are simply weak-willed women who have been misled: it infantalizes them in the same way it infantalizes cis women. The transphobic stereotype is trans men as misled butch lesbians, but, of course, it's actually the case that trans people are much more likely to be homosexual than straight.

If you made a similar map showing anti-reproductive rights legislation efforts, Im willing to bet it would look nearly identical.

And yet somehow (cough), many cis women got the idea planted in their brains that trans people are the problem, rather than allies against a common enemy.
It's easier to oppress a tiny minority than it is to fight Christofascism.
But yes, the underlying belief is that neither women nor trans people should be allowed bodily autonomy. And conceding to Christofascist framing on one leaves you unable to clearly and cogently argue for the other.

Unrelatedly, it's a shame that John King has little chance of winning the MD Dem governor primary. He actually met with Erin and other trans rights activists and pledged to enact a CT-style trans refuge law.

Yeah, it's not just that. It's that Fighting Type has no good moves in Gen 1. Outside of High Jump Kick, which was exclusive to Hitmonlee (a pokemon with the durability of tissue paper: it had 35 base Special in Gen 1, to go with 50 base HP and 53 base defense. A stiff breeze could kill this thing!), the strongest Fighting type attack was Submission, as detailed - an extremely shitty move. HJK only had 85 BP in Gens 1-3 and has always had 90 accuracy with the incredibly punishing unique recoil on a miss, so it's not like it was that much better.

Now's a bad time. I've been impatient to see this woman again after we had our third date this past Monday, which went very, very well. We had plans for tomorrow night, we were gonna watch a movie at her place, and I've been really looking forward to it all week. Tonight she texted me to say she'll have to cancel, she's feeling "super socially drained and needs to take a break."

Obviously I understand, and I'm not gonna push things, but my anxiety is through the roof about it right now.
Yeah, that's a perfectly acceptable reason, but the beginning of a relationship is always stressful. Many of the Revolutionary leaders would have hung, and likely many patriots would flee west from the triumphant loyalists the war had become an excuse for settling personal grudges in many cases, and most loyalists emigrated after the war, though their right to do so was protected by the Treaty of Paris.

The British were a bit less interested in westward expansion but likely lacked the will and means to prevent it entirely.

Probably Spains colonies still rebel around the same time as in OTL and likely succeed. The Brits dont go to war with Mexico for its territory, so theres a much larger Mexico. The Brits probably dont mess with it as much as we did/do either.

Louisiana is a bit of a wild card. Maybe rebels seize part of it and install Aaron Burr as king? Let me be fanciful here.

The Native Americans are still completely fucked. Sorry, I wish it was plausible they could come out of this okay.

The modern US is a member of the British Commonwealth. It is territorially much smaller (how much smaller is uncertain). Nothing is named for Washington or Jefferson (and anything named Franklin might be after Ben Franklins loyalist son). Maybe some things are named after Benedict Arnold particularly if his plot to betray West Point succeeding is our divergence point. The US is a Parliamentary democracy with a little bit of a federalist streak. Maybe the Brits got Louisiana after beating Napoleon and made it its own thing to counterbalance their once-rebellious subject. Perhaps Mexico became a superpower.

Do you see why alt history is hard? Theres ultimately no way to say.
