Valkyria chronicles. The amount of xp you get at the end of each mission is determined by your rank, which is determined solely by how many turns it took you to beat the mission. There's also no way to grind xp, so the system strongly rewards you for ignoring enemies as much as possible and bum rushing the objective. I've never played another strategy game that sabotages itself so thoroughly.

if that's the game I'm remembering, what I didn't like about the game was that is was supposedly about your tank and how great it was, when actually it was your single biggest liability. the game wasn't hard, except that you immediately lose if your tank gets hit too much, and it's always a sitting duck.

technically correct uninteresting answer is probably MOO3. though I didn't really play it enough to tell for sure. (I remember it being almost fun to build up your planets, but there wasn't much beyond that.)

otherwise, maybe Earth 2015? if I recall, it has no upkeep or farm-space. the limit on how many units you can build ends up being a limit of physical space and room to move, even for air units. units, even air units, can't overlap. (maybe air can overlap with ground). so the end result was that your army can always be larger and more unwieldy, which was not a great way for a game like that to play IMO.

(in retrospect I suppose units taking up space and having to deal with the logistics of moving them is in itself a logical cost to pay for having a large army, but there needed to be some other kind of penalty for overly large armies, like upkeep. the way it was, you can pump out units till the game crashes and then find that you can't move them because they can't path and are just flooding your entire base.)

they all have their pros and cons. I don't even know if I could rank them.

DS1: almost artistically perfect; loses points for weaker areas near the end

DS2: tries too hard to be hard; gameplay feels off compared to other games; most variety in character development, areas, and loot, which makes it funner overall

DS3: well polished areas and mechanics; feels more limited in character development; the "story" also feels incomplete to me, despite the game being otherwise pretty polished; they clearly wanted to do more with it but didn't; mechanically the best of the three but somehow the least fun

all three of these have some of their best content in DLCs

Sekiro: fantastic but way too short; reuses some bosses which is a bit annoying

Elden Ring: amazing in ways but way too long; makes it a lot harder to assess; reuses a lot of bosses which is a bit annoying, but there's soooo many so who cares; feels a bit too much like DS3

yeah I'm there observing but the situation is happening to me or around me, I'm not usually actively doing anything except experiencing the situation. it may be related to sleep paralysis since even if I am in a situation where I feel like I need to physically do something, I can feel that I'm paralyzed and can't actually move.

Yes you do slowly build that up but it stops eventually each character has a set # of cards and it's not a huge a list, and even then you can't guarantee those cards will be offered. Games like MTG are where deck construction before you even play a game is a huge aspect of the game, StS is more a deck building game where as you play you build a deck up.

k but OP just says "card based games" doesn't it?

You don't really collect cards in this on a long term basis, you build a deck for that run and once you die or win it's gone. I love Slay the Spire but it's nothing like say MTG or Hearthstone which allow you to adjust and build decks using your collection.

you do slowly build up the cards you have available though, don't you? I don't normally like card games at all so I don't know the differences. Slay the Spire is the exception.

thanks but I had not only already ruled out T but also U. it's I guess the core of the game to not just think of 5 letter words, but 5 letter words that offer the most value. if I don't pay enough attention I miss that.

I had birds in my last place. playing predator bird sounds sort of kind of worked a bit, maybe. (hard to tell could just be placebo/coincidence).

some other ideas I never got around to trying included:
- put chimes where they want to gather that they hopefully can't help bumping into and scaring themselves with (sparkly ones too maybe)
- there are spike things you can get that prevent them from landing wherever you put the spikes

it's extremely good, but it's also one of the rare games I think I would call too long. I'm already at 170 hours and only like ~75% done (I think). that's around half of my total playtime of any one of the other games, and this is not even one playthrough yet. (where I've played through the others 5-10 times each.) (it does make up a bit for Sekiro though, which I thought was a bit too short).

for what it's like, it's basically if you made a Zelda or TES game using Dark Souls 3's engine. also the difficulty is not afraid to be easy, unlike a DS game; but more important parts are about as hard as any DS game.

if you know there are more possibilities than you have guesses, shouldn't you think of words that knock more than one possibility out at a time? that's what I did with FLAME (not that that was the best example of that necessarily) (I did get lucky with F though)

for me it was 2 weeks (1 week class, 1 week driving) and cost ~$300.

for the driving exam, remember to follow the rules to a 'T', even if one wouldn't really do that in practice. if the speed limit is 50, go exactly 50 unless you have reason not to, etc.

~$2k is on the high-end of normal and considering what you're getting I sure don't think that's too much. honestly that's the best value I've ever seen performance VS dollars. (but I haven't bought a new PC in almost 10 years now either...)

• basically everything is off-the-scale performance wise
• liquid cooling might be overkill
• you could get faster clocked RAM according to your motherboard specs (up to 5200)
• motherboard supports RAID but not sure how I'd plan that these days with SSDs
• expect SSD to eventually fail (but not sure on longevity). not sure of best approach but probably don't just use the one SSD for everything.
• (if I was building it I would look into SSD RAID 10 but not sure about it. it's possible mirroring SSDs makes no sense since the mirrors would likely fail at the exact same time (due to having limited # of writes))
• video card is mind blowing compared to anything I've ever had but not sure how it compares to other similar tier cards.

can't nitpick it much, that's a better computer in every way than I've ever used and for a relatively good price. don't let Ogurisama see it though, he paid well over double for something similar.

just working; hadn't payed attention to the news so found out about the restrictions from management and had to implement a couple things to make it all work.

another option could be to setup your own formal webspace. use this as an opportunity to begin whatever professional web presence you would like to have, and then use it for this as well.

is this the kind of thing where you get graded on quality, or no?

if the requirement is just "have a website", which I've also had in the odd class, you can have the most basic of all websites just from a text file. just use the most basic of html elements with no styling.

it depends on the actual requirements though.

eg, just stick mysite.html in a folder with your document files:
