i thought the biden clip was pretty cringe. it wouldn't have been as cringe if he had just made a comment that indicated he didn't realize walorski had died but the fact that he directly addressed her in a speech is... ouch.

maybe it's not "dr. oz is a presidential candidate" level cringe but i don't think this is something worth attacking tony over.

i also agree with tony on the trump comparison. in retrospect, some of the cringe trump tweets and clips we were all constantly posting in this topic really weren't more cringe than that biden clip. let's not pretend those trump tweets were all "inject bleach" level terrible.

chronological order for x-men seems like machete order for star wars.

in other words, just watch them in release order.

and i'd say "i don't know much about meloni but a woman getting elected is positive" is essentially praising meloni. hillary didn't say she knows NOTHING about meloni, just that she's not a huge expert on her.

I'm hardly one to enjoy putting out Hillary Clinton's fires, but it's clear from the full context that she wasn't even following the Italian elections and got asked about it because people always ask her about female world leaders and she bullshitted her way through an answer. It's not great, but it's clear from the full context that she is not praising Meloni. It's tiring watching people who should know better fall for this propaganda from the other side. Come on.

i agree that she obviously didn't have a clue who the fuck meloni is but... that's also bad? sure, it's not AS bad as her answer being "oh yeah i've followed meloni for years and i fully agree with her about [insert specific points]," but it's still bad. we've bashed trump for years for bullshitting his way through answers on stuff he didn't know anything about, don't see why we shouldn't do the same for hillary.

hillary spoke positively about meloni lol

For what it's worth there's this one ranking of every MCU movie on Collider I follow that keeps getting updated with every new release. That ranking has Dark World ahead of both Doctor Stranges, both Ant-Men, the first Thor, Iron Man 2, Eternals, Black Widow, The Incredible Hulk, and Shang-Chi. So, it's not like everyone rags on Dark World.

the only inclusion on that list that's really surprising is shang-chi imo. i didn't care much for the movie but most people seem to love it.

what i don't get is that darcy was generally disliked in dark world but then everyone seemed to be totally cool with her in wandavision.

i personally haven't liked kat dennings in anything i've seen her in - including wandavision. her style of comedy just doesn't work for me at all.

i don't think it should be a prickly topic. i remember when arcus was asked on his stream if ninja gaiden was a hard speedrun for him to learn because the game is so difficult, he replied something like: "when you start grinding a game, terms like 'easy' and 'hard' go out of the window. it's just a matter of putting in the hours."

i do get that certain speedruns are harder to learn than other runs. but that's a different issue than the "is there a significant difference between running a game on easy mode or hard mode" question.

as someone who's used dating apps for years, there's definitely some truth to this. i don't know if most guys swipe right on everything (i don't) but i'd say this is more common among guys than women.

I thought the D+ TV shows were okay and then I watched Daredevil S1 and was like, oh, I was operating under a completely different level of standards and expectations

I think Hawkeye is great, I think Wandavision is great except it stumbles on the landing, and the rest of them are... ok-to-not-great.

yeah, i wonder if more people overrate the tv shows because they're watching them through MCU glasses. i don't think any of the shows i've seen were great. wandavision was good but even that had a lot of flaws.

but i haven't seen hawkeye yet and a lot of people tell me it's great, so...

what bothers me about the mandarin twist is that that aspect of the plot goes absolutely nowhere. maybe i would have been fine with it if it had an awesome, well thought out payoff. instead, we get "killian is the REAL mandarin! ...well, not really. we later find out that another guy is the REAL real mandarin!" what the hell? it seems like they just wanted to troll fans of the mandarin from the comics and then had no idea how to proceed after they did that.

sorry for bringing up a youtube rando, but i just saw that matt walsh made an insane video called "debunking gay marriage" about a month ago. his arguments are basically "marriage has been between a man and a woman for thousands of years" (completely false) and "it can only be marriage if the couple can procreate" (so what about a marriage between a man and a woman where one of them is infertile?).

but the reason i wanted to bring this up is literally EVERYONE in the comments is disgreeing with him lol. maybe there's some hope for humanity after all!

i will say, to a certain extent, i get LMS. whenever i see a ben shapiro video, i'm shocked that there are millions of people who genuinely find it pleasant to listen to this guy for more than 1 second. i just never get used to it.

i guess i can control myself a little better than LMS so i don't feel the need to inform this topic every single time i get these feelings, though.

It's only overrated because many people still consider this to be the best MCU movie and that is WILD to me.

if this is true, it's definitely overrated as hell but... is it? i thought most people still considered infinity war and endgame to be better movies. maybe no way home too.

to me, endgame is the overrated avengers movie. to me, it's clearly vastly inferior to infinity war. i'd probably put it below avengers 1, too. (still a good movie, though!)

Thanoss motives in Avengers dont really make sense given his later actions and desires. I realize at the time they were still working under the assumption that he was literally courting Death like in the comics, but they eventually discarded that aspect.

it always felt weird to me how they seemed to put the pieces in place for a movie that would have been closer to the infinity gauntlet comic - they hinted at death in avengers, adam warlock in guardians of the galaxy 2 - but then they discarded those pieces in infinity war.

There isn't a huge quipfest going on non-stop like later entries because Iron Man is really the only jokey character in the movie, and that's a good thing because it lets the film keep the proper weight throughout while still having its share of humor.

i really like thor in this movie because he's mostly serious but he still gets in a good joke with "he's adopted."

i know everyone loves ragnarok but i kinda miss the days when thor wasn't a non-stop joke machine.

i'm not positive nothing noteworthy has happened lately. still need to catch up with the latest news regarding the war.

anyway, this topic is going to hit 500 pretty soon anyway. i see no harm in keeping it alive.

because the war is still going on and it's particularly relevant for me, living in europe?

Missed that post, but I will disagree with it.

yeah, posts like that are what i have a problem with. there's a lot of posts in this topic saying stuff like "ant-man is 1000x bigger than shang-chi," "shang-chi is nothing," etc. you can easily point out that lopen is wrong without being super hyperbolic like that.

i'd say shang-chi was bigger than the guardians of the galaxy before their respective movies came out tbqh. i personally was a lot more familiar with the former (though i was aware of the latter's existence).

i'll give you that people in this topic are downplaying shang-chi's popularity a little bit. i wouldn't say "most comic book nerds have no idea who he is." i'm only a casual comic fan and i knew him before the movie, like i said. he had a pretty long-running solo title. he teamed up with spider-man in the '70s. he's obscure but he's not, like, fatman the human flying saucer level obscure.

that being said, there's really no question that ant-man is better known than shang-chi. ant-man is a founding member of the avengers (as was said) who's been around since 1962. shang-chi isn't.

i guess you could argue "well ant-man is better known but not vastly better known" but i'm not interested in splitting hairs like that.

(also i'm not a scarlet appreciation squad member)

Iron Fist was always the master martial artist, if it wasn't for that failure of a show we probably would have gotten him instead of Shang-Chi. I had never even heard of the latter before the movie and there doesn't seem to be any must read comics for him.

i read the first 20 issues or so of master of kung fu as a kid because my dad owned them. don't know if they're "must read" but i remember liking them. if nothing else, the art was very good.

anyway, shang-chi isn't as big as ant-man. don't know why this even became an argument.

martin scorsese is a brilliant filmmaker but his thoughts on MCU movies are dumb. i don't see why we constantly need to talk about his MCU opinions or why anyone should be "genuinely concerned" about them. it really isn't a big deal.

summer is my favorite season but i still voted no. i like having different weather at times for a change of pace.

but I rarely ever call anything bad.

this is bizarre to me

i usually love the dry new zealand style humor and when the jokes in ragnarok worked, they were hilarious. a lot of the jokes didn't hit for me, though.
