i usually love the dry new zealand style humor and when the jokes in ragnarok worked, they were hilarious. a lot of the jokes didn't hit for me, though.

re: taika waititi, what we do in the shadows is a great movie but i'm not as in love with ragnarok as most people.

haven't seen jojo rabbit or love & thunder yet.

I don't recall anyone outright hating on the movie, most reactions I've seen are all pretty much along the lines of "it was good but could have been better in certain ways."

at the risk of sounding like LMS, i've seen several videos by youtube critics who strongly disliked it. doug walker and jeremy jahns immediately come to mind.

i'm pretty sure running SMB on a keyboard is actually harder than with a controller (if i remember correctly, it's because input lag is a bigger issue on keyboard). the SMB WR is insane regardless but that makes it even more impressive!

just wanted to make a note that since i made that post, the WR holder for SMB any% (niftski) actually improved his own record, once again on a keyboard. absolutely insane!

and yet, the WR run still isn't fully optimized!

i actually disagree - watching a movie twice can be comparable to playing a game you've already beaten a second time. you're familiar with it but you still get something new out of it. i didn't catch all the little details and easter eggs in inside out the first time i saw it, for instance, so watching it a second time wasn't exactly the same experience.

even if some people do defend ezra, they hardly seem to all be "leftist SJWs," as ulti was arguing. if anything, the jared leto guy seems like a typical alt-right trump supporter (he's also praising/defending zaslav on his twitter).

i've done it a handful of times. i think the most often i've seen a movie in the theater was the first hobbit movie. saw it three times because separate people wanted to see it and i liked it enough to want to see it multiple times.

why do you want to keep watching midnight's edge? what do you get out of it?

i agree that "we're in another matrix" would have been a far better direction for the story to go in revolutions than "neo is jesus," yeah.

i had a good time when i saw spider-man 3 in theaters. i immediately noticed that a lot was wrong with the movie, though (venom sucked, gwen stacy was totally pointless, sandman being uncle ben's killer was super dumb).

i guess ulti is also a semi-decent example, though he was never that far on the left - he was mostly a "i voted for kerry and obama" democrat. there was a time when he hadn't completely fallen down the alt-right rabbit hole, though.

i don't think realo was ever on the left, though. his political beliefs were always kind of weird and bad.

The amount you saw on B8 up to about 6 to 8 years ago, which is these days one of the most left-leaning gaming forums Im aware of, was pretty disturbing and a lot of quite reasonable people today got sucked into it back then.

could you name names? i don't think people like sephyg and smartmuffin were ever reasonable. i'd say even wang doesn't count.

maybe "fun" isn't the right word. i think some people are addicted to being outraged all the time and that's why they watch those videos.

yeah, this is the thing i fundamentally disagree with blur on. i'm sure SOME people are victims of propaganda but i don't believe in a rousseau-ish "all people start out as good people" stance or a john locke-ish "all people start out being tabula rasa" stance.

the implicit message of that line of thinking is "it could happen to YOU," when there's no way i would ever watch a second of a ben fucking shapiro video for fun.

also, add my dad to the list of dads who used to be on the left and now spend literally every day watching ben shapiro and jordan peterson and comicsgate people and bullshit like that on youtube.

this propaganda seems to be particularly effective on old dads.

i think it's fair to have legitimate concerns over the ST. it sucks for reasons far beyond whatever dumb identity politic complaints you traffic in

rise of skywalker in particular is a bad movie.

it's actually rated lower on IMDb than attack of the clones (only by .1, but still), so this isn't exactly an unpopular opinion.

With RLM I get the sense the main guy only sounds insightful/knowledgeable as long as he's going after low-hanging fruit. I used to enjoy the Plinkett reviews back in the day but on revisiting them I found them needlessly nitpicky, like in one of the Star Trek movies he spends five minutes harping on Picard mishandling a prop because it contradicts the precedent set in Season 5 Episode 13 or w/e for how that prop was handled, and just stuff where you'd have to be scanning for things to complain about. And it only tracks because the movies are already easy targets

plinkett did review the force awakens. he didn't dislike the movie at all but he makes some very good points about it nonetheless.

there's plenty of shit wrong with that movie beside the dance scene.

the burly brawl already didn't look that great at the time but jesus christ, did the CGI in that scene not age well.

i really liked red letter media at first. after it ran out of star wars prequel movies to dunk on, i realized its niche wasn't giving accurate reviews. its niche was making everything look terrible and laughing at it as hard as possible.

kind of like how "zero punctuation" wasn't about accurate reviews, it was about coming up with the most creative and entertaining metaphors for "thing is bad"

i still think RLM is good entertainment, i just wouldn't trust their reviews to be accurate. in their defense, a lot of stuff is bad- a broken clock is right 70% of the time, or whatever. in the end, they're putting on a show and making money

i kind of agree that their reviews aren't accurate (mike in particular is a pretty terrible movie critic, as much as i love him) but "they want to make everything look terrible" is bullshit. there's literally been hundreds of movies they gave positive reviews.

all of the transformers movies made a ton of money too. box office says little about how much people actually like movies.

i agree that iron man 3 is mid-tier as far as audience reception goes, though.

i mean, yeah, MCU movies draw from more stuff than just past superhero movies. winter soldier is influenced by political thrillers, guardians of the galaxy is influenced by troma movies, etc.

...i don't think the logical conclusion to draw from that observation is "joe turner from three days of the condor also counts as a superhero," though.

I hope Flash is the biggest box office disaster in ages if they refuse to remove Miller before releasing it. Also heard it cost closer to 300M than 200.
