I did nine years in the air force, so a few lol

Travis AFB, Kunsan AB, RAF Mildenhall, Vance AFB, Camp Lemonnier and Chabelley Airfield were the ones I was stationed at, and I did training at Lackland AFB (I know obvious), Keesler AFB, and did some survival stuff at McGuire.

This is not correct. CP and gore videos are not on the same level on classified information.

I was in the military and had held a level of security clearance (long since expired). Even with that clearance, everything was held at a need to know basis. Meaning, even if I held top secret security/ SCI clearance, I couldn't just waltz into certain areas and read documents unless it was essential for my job. A person whose job is to operate nuclear power plants on a naval ship (requiring top secret clearance) cannot read up on the identities of double agent US spies in Russia. Its not their job.

Right. While I once, long ago, had a security clearance, I couldn't just walk down to my local Intel office and star digging through their files, everything was still need-to-know, and if I didn't need to know it I didn't see or hear it.

All that is to say, if these agents are sent to a site to find documents, then they've been cleared to know their contents. This isn't the local sheriff's office, it's the fucking FBI and it's comical someone could actually wonder "what happens if they see something they're not supposed to" and never consider that they have the clearance to handle the documents.

So something I can't understand, and please forgive me if it's been discussed:

I don't understand how removing from the service completely a years old film like An American Pickle can be used as a tax write-off. This movie was filmed in 2018 and WB didn't have anything to do with it until they bought the rights in 2020, the year it was released.

I can understand the logic behind canceling a movie or show partway through, but this movie has been out and watchable for years. What costs are they saving by removing a digital from their streaming service?

I grew up in a small town, and the games the other kids played were stuff like Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal and Road Rash, so I didn't even know RPGs were a thing. Now, it's my favorite genre.

Because they're being haters and it's the only ammo they have. I see people mention it for rappers all the time. "This popular rapper sucks! He doesn't even write his own lyrics!"

I would argue that within rap, it's much more of a cultural transgression to not write your own lyrics and piggyback off of someone else's work.

Think about it, rap is seen as one of the few ways out of the hood. People pour everything they have into rap, and when they see someone become hugely successful off of someone else's songwriting, there's a sense that they're more than just fraud artists, they're fraud people that cheated to get ahead of everyone else and escaped hard times when so many other artists are putting the work in and can't get out.

Obviously there's people in every genre of music that use it to "get out" of their poor circumstances, but rap as a genre is born from a group of people that have been historically oppressed and have had few, if any, accessible pathways to escape their circumstances.

Most of the time people complain about fast food places giving them GI issues, I just assume it's a poorly run location or anything spicier than flour is enough to set them off.

Cartoons hit differently then because you were a child seeing action cartoons for the first and didn't care about how janky the animations were or how often they reused and recycled everything. Now you're an adult whose seen a million cartoons and are much less likely to be impressed by what you see and aren't even the target audience.

Soundcloud rap doesn't mean that it was only big on Soundcloud. There's tons of rap on soundcloud that isn't soundcloud rap. Soundcloud rap just got named that because it was the biggest style to come from the platform, and plenty of soundcloud rappers charted.

Not only did he die way too young with an output that was honestly mostly bad, but the soundcloud rap genre itself is pretty dead now too. He was popular, I'll give him that, but the only thing that will make him a legend is some yet-to-exist rapper becoming a legend themselves after basing their own sound on xxxtentacion

What gets me is people who miss the entire point of the movie or a scene. Like what the hell did you just think you just watched.

I'll watch a show about how wild ambition ruined this guy's life, and someone will say yep, a man's gotta have ambition.

Lmao I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm watching Peaky Blinders for the first time and I sometimes feel like I'm watching a different show than others.

I love the show, but I feel like tons of folks out here think that Tommy Shelby is someone to look up to and emulate. Don't get me wrong, Tommy's a great character and cool as shit but the show goes out of its way to constantly push the narrative that Tommy is a broken man whose gang lifestyle and massive ambition has only resulted in everyone he loves dying around him. He advances in society and gets wealthier every season, but he's more and more a shell of himself as well as he looks back on the trail of dead loved ones his ambition has left in its dust.

then you gave a bad example to support your point, because it's supported directly by the content of the work without considering intent.

writers can fail to achieve what they intended, and they can put things in unintentionally. you can't actually know if a given implication is intended or not unless you personally wrote it

We know what the writers intended because those involved with the show confirmed that will is gay. personally writing something is far from the only way to understand author intent.

I think the most baffling one is when people feel personally insulted if a character dies or goes through some sort of change they dislike.

The one that gets me is when people say it's bad writing if a character does something dumb, when all it takes is one look out your window to see that people are out in the world making poor decisions all the damn time.

It has annoyed me for years how people constantly insist on "Show, don't tell." I always think about how the first sentence of Pride and Prejudice wouldn't exist if Jane Austen had followed this creative writing "rule."

Too many people don't understand that show don't tell just means you should flesh a scene out a bit more rather than just writing "John was mad," while also not understanding that sometimes you just need to write "John was mad."

Writing "rules" aren't rules, they're just building blocks that you need to work out and strengthen and once you have that done then you bend and twist and experiment with your words.
