i'd say they're about the same regarding checklists and things to do, but the problem is that valhalla did away with a lot of what odyssey had. a lot of people like that there's no random loot anymore, but it makes meaningful rewards and content few and far between. you also can't apply effects to your gear like in odyssey, now you have to use a half baked rune system that majorly clutters up your inventory. i also don't think combat feels meaningful or engaging. odyssey has a lot of cool, practical abilities and status effects, valhalla has... axe throw, charge forward, charge forward but also punch, jump attack, it's just really dumbed down for people who didn't like the rpg elements odyssey had.

i'd forgive everything if they put out a balance patch nerfing waluigi, roy, wiggler kart, and the biddy buggy

it's not very, very unattractive to me, but it also doesn't do anything for me. she's an average woman with i guess longer legs than usual. shrug

you should probably look up which quests are time sensitive, since you said you wanted to dig in. really the only major gripe i have with the game is how obfuscated and cryptic some of the quests are.
