It isn't 'cringe' to want to safeguard extremely basic human rights laws. Democrats blow, but anyone who doesn't want to push them to hold 60%-70% (probably impossible with fauxgressives joining Republicans to dump on them) of the House/Senate are fools - with these numbers, people would have to worry far less about the Centrist Dems like Sinema and Manchin, and they could safely push further left candidates.

Republicans need to be thoroughly obliterated before anyone can even think in America about getting a Socialist in. Let's focus on the party that doesn't want to murder my mother for having a miscarriage first. There is a progressive wing, although I'm sure you'd take every opportunity to dump all over them before any Republican. Correct me if I'm wrong though - I consider myself in the progressive/socialist camp, but there's a large group of terminally-online 'Leftists' who are simple contrarians who kiss the ass of whichever YouTuber they've devoted their life to. I also live in Canada, so have the privilege of being able to vote further Left of Liberal while still not getting the Conservative dipwads holding power.

I honestly have no idea how some people figure stuff like that out. Sure I understand more or less what resistors and capacitors do, but I can't just look at a circuit board and parse out their significance. And wiring diagrams can be hard to understand, that's like a special skill in itself.

I feel like you'd need a PhD to truly know what you're doing, but I doubt most modders have that. They've just pieced together a lot of knowledge by just doing things, looking into what others have done, doing more things, learning along the way, etc.

I wish I knew how to mod too but I can't do much more than follow directions of an existing mod. And even then stuff like soldering can be tricky at times

I'm glad I keep interesting friends. I make time for them outside of work, but the 40 hour work week really does drain me a lot. Thankfully my new coworkers are actually pretty fascinating people. My 2 years of online school in a different city felt a bit robotic actually, although thankfully there were still lab days to interact with people. It was robotic because I was in survival mode for those two years - I found the city I was in to be fairly unwelcoming and devoid of culture.

After the basics of understanding electrical engineering and computer science you'd really just have to do a lot of personal study into resources available online. People have really gotten down into the nitty-gritty of past consoles, so it's all out there.

You mean like, the people that make mods and hacks, right? Since just applying mods/hacks is pretty easy these days.

I'd say a couple years of comp sci if you have an aptitude for it and apply yourself? I just did 2 years of school for Network Technician stuff, but I've kind of steered away from the coding side. If I'm being realistic, you'd probably need 2-4 years of good study. Maybe you could accomplish that on your own, but school would be the easiest way to get the work in for me personally.

I've also mostly only seen very inarticulate criticism of Rings of Power. Pretty excited to check it out actually.

I've definitely been seeing a lot of people moaning about She-Hulk, but then I see a lot of people suggesting it's actually very accurate to the comics. Regardless, the criticisms I'm seeing don't make much sense since they're acting like Iron Man was some ultra serious movie, and they don't like the less serious elements in She-Hulk. Seems like a selective memory problem since Iron Man was goofy as fuck.

I typically like music or podcats, but yes, sometimes I just need silence.

I like saying things like "no, I'll be getting what I came in here originally to get, thank you very much".

I was sceptical of 60 minutes Australia's reporting at first but the evidence they compiled is compelling; I'll check out those video's when I get the time but the opposition to the lab leak theory stemmed first from an overabundance of caution to prevent the Chinese from locking us out, and then from a desire of the Chinese government to downplay their culpability in the event, I have not seen any evidence that would lead to better theory, but I also have not been looking at the intelligence specific to the origins in months.

Wuhan may have been designed and built as a level four bio lab, but they kicked out the French before they could finish finalizations of certification of their level four status, with the international community warning anyone who would listen that an accident was inevitable.

EDIT: Yeah, those papers are couched to avoid angering the Chinese government to keep WHO operations active in China, they do not rule out a lab leak, and may actually point to deficiencies in the labs protocols.

Props for at least being open-minded to the evidence of said papers, but I think find Dr. Susan Oliver's overview of these papers far more comprehensive than what you've just explained. The evidence presents a lab leak as not physically viable. I really don't have much trust for 60 minutes (television program with a mixed record and not entirely scientifically literate). There is a lot of conjecture in that report and a general avoidance of literal findings.

The likely leak from the lab and the subsequent coverup makes it really difficult to not only acquire accurate information, but disseminate it to everybody else once we think we know what has happened.

The likely event seems to have been an incident in 2017 at a mine where three workers died from symptoms similar to what we now call covid; those samples were taken to the Wuhan lab and at some point in June or July of 2019 there was a breech of protocol that allowed for the virus to enter the meat market next to the lab.

The fact they were doing other things like gain of function experiments, didn't help those who will run with premise regardless of accuracy.
