It'd be a transition, but it'd ultimately be simpler than the current approach of having to figure out which time zone a given person is in based on what the date is instead of just going by where they are. This would effectively be a matter of shuffling time zones around permanently instead of having to account for them being shuffled around twice a year.
that's only true for present time. past time calculations (so, datetime calculations in general) will still need to know the date in order to determine time-zone. that said, I guess it is true that it is done with time-zones. it's actually the determination of time-zone that becomes slightly more complex.

Nah, that part's easy enough. "It's 10:00 am now" and you're done.
I meant implementing it in the world, not just as a legislator. The point being, I would not want to be the person who is making a decision like this where potentially everyone in the world will be affected by my possibly stupid decision.

also thinking of it as a programmer where now the already horrendously complicated calculation of dates and times will now be yet another small amount more complicated.

well, what they say is kind of right

easy: we should stop changing the clocks all the time and just use one time
hard: what should that one time be?
also hard: actually implementing it

I've wondered myself about this before. when ordering online you can theoretically select what should be invalid pizza options. so what happens if you do? apparently someone tried and picked a pizza with no cheese, no sauce, and the left half of the pizza with beef topping (None Pizza with Left Beef) resulting in bare pizza bread with a small amount of beef scattered on one side of it. yum...

and I'm reminded again that apparently I like druids even though I would normally never say that. my best character in WoW by far was a druid and the only character I've ever beaten all of BG1/BG2/BG2:ToB with was a druid.

setting timers. this is really useful as you can not just set a voice-command timer, but you can set two or three or more, and give them names. (useful when cooking more than one thing at once.) and you can say "alexa, timer status" at any time to check on them.

hands-free math. very handy, although it gets tricky to do a long series of operations at once. better to do one or two at once. "alexa, what's 3280 divided by 8?", "<answer>", "alexa, what's <answer> times 25?", "<answer>", "alexa, what's the square root of <answer>?"

music. I only rarely use it, but I can just say "alexa play carpenter brut" and get a random stream of carpenter brut songs. probably the artist has to happen to be available for free and won't always be. there's a subscription service to have access to more songs.

weather. "alexa, what's the temperature/weather", "will it rain soon", "what's the low", etc.

definitions. "alexa, what is <strange word>?". this one is nice when it gets it but only has maybe 50/50 accuracy. also "alexa, who is <strange name>?", "alexa, how old is <celebrity>?", or "alexa, is <celebrity> still alive?"

lists. mostly for shopping list, but you can just say "alexa, add <words> to <list>" to add something to a list. you can have more than one list supposedly but I just use the shopping list at the moment.

(you can actually have it look up things for sale on amazon, and buy them on your account, but that seems like a terrible idea.)

one thing is I'd rather say something else than "alexa". in my options I can change the trigger word to something else like "computer" but it doesn't work. probably you need a more expensive one or something, (mine was just $50).

something to remember when using it is that it's not magic, it is still just a computer. you have to work around its interface, it just has a voice interface instead of a screen.

there are also "apps" (can't remember the word they use) that you can download and run (and write, which I would love to try). for example, you can play Akinator if you install it and run it.

yes it has a lot of dialogue. if you can't read a lot then the game will not be for you. I don't know how you can say "barely edited"; the game is excellently written, particularly compared to the average jRPG. the writing is the main draw. if you don't like the writing the other parts of the game are only ok. but it works because the writing (including characters and setting) is fantastic. if the gameplay was as good as the writing it would be one of the best games of all time.

To reiterate, I'm speaking in the abstract - it doesn't have to literally be a dark world and past/future, but just 2 (or more) axis' of world shifting
I can almost think of ones where first you travel to a magical world, and then in the magical world you can travel to other magical worlds. (Narnia, maybe D&D). but I guess what you want is that there are two separate methods of travel, and they both work in both/all places. (so, travelling to a place where further travel to other places is not sufficient.)

a question would be, is it necessary that if you use method A and then B that you end up in the same place as using B and then A? (travel to the parallel universe, then to the past VS travel to the past then the parallel universe.)

(WoW is basically there if you count Draenor as a "parallel universe" since you can time-travel to past events, including I think past events on Draenor. I can't remember for sure though.)

not aware of a game that has both as game mechanics. though I think in LttP there was some small implication that the two worlds were temporally related. locations exist in both worlds and the dark world versions felt long abandoned in comparison to their light world counterparts. it was almost as if the dark world had been created as a copy of the light world that then diverged over time or had been fast forwarded into a distant future.

sometimes. it's funner/funnier to get in the way of a road rager and then laugh at them.

actually, there was a situation I was in where I forced myself not to get annoyed and it payed off. hard to explain, but there was a bus that was being driven slightly erratically that I was stuck behind. this was on a "main road" where there's no stop signs, a parking lane, and a single driving lane.

I knew not to get annoyed since it would only lead to me doing something stupid. but it kept driving slow, would enter the oncoming traffic lane slightly, would enter the parking lane slightly and could almost have hit some parked cars or oncoming traffic.

eventually it made it to the next bus-stop which is at a T intersection (if T is the intersection we're travelling left.) there were two crosswalks. I _wanted_ to angrily pass the bus now that it was pulling over into the bus-stop but I forced myself to follow the "don't pass in a crosswalk" rule so I made sure not to go through the crosswalk until the bus did. it was hard to tell since the bus-stop is almost at the same place as the crosswalk.

trying to make sure the bus crossed the crosswalk first, it ended up NOT entering the crosswalk, and only because I was barely paying attention to that I came to a stop right next to it at the crosswalk. and then a kid on a scooter zipped in front of me out from in front of the bus... yikes.
