Avalugg meets Delibird and does a little roar. It's probably hard to tell from the small pic but this is perfect side direction (good example of how direction is based on their head position rather than their body, since Avalugg's head is turned to the right in comparison to where he's standing). Scores always look incredibly impressive when they manage to hit the 1000 pose.

Call me when they're planning We Love Katamari Reroll.

I think that there was no chance that I'd end up voting a primarily piano song over a more electronic based one (and from a game that has produced past winners), but I did my fair part and listened to them so I could make that judgement myself. There is nothing actually wrong with prime, it's just not my type of song. People that are fans of that style would probably vote for it regardless of length. I liked how every 5-10 minutes it seemed to change style, but there's no specific part that I really have anything to say about.

On the flip side, Amplitude is my 2nd favorite video game soundtrack, so I came into this match hoping that DJMAX wouldn't give me something that I liked to complicate my decision. Luckily, it delivered, or failed to deliver depending on how you put it. Easy vote in that match.

Maybe they're not actually his parents (or maybe they are). In the tunnel with all the male Frillish there's also a male Tentacruel and 2 female Tentacruel. If you orb the male, like the Frillish, he will go ahead to the end section. But if you orb either of the females ones, then at the exit of the tunnel, they will be blocking him from leaving with an angry look on their face, and he will turn around and float back to his spot with a sad look. So you have to orb him but not the other two. He will show up on the "main stage" on the ancient ruins along with a female Frillish, facing each other, in front of the crystabloom. When you play music they will both start dancing.

This was part of a whole series of shots that got rerouted some time late last year. There's a minor event at the end of Sands where 2 male Hippowdon come up in front of a female and fight each other with sand tornados to impress her. One of them gets knocked over and runs away, while the winner and the female run off happily together. Well it turns out that the 2 tornados that they create each count as background for the few seconds that they're on screen. So the goal is to lure a Pokemon down the hill so you get a glimpse of the double tornado fight. The difficulty depends on how easy the Pokemon is to lure, but it's tough no matter what because you have a limited time since the event happens on its own. Plus, this shot is an idle pose, meaning that it's even harder to time the animation with the background. Only a few people have managed to get this composition. There is a static, nearly automatic 1 star pose in Badlands Night that can get an easy 5300-5400 that most people have as their score.

I counted a few days ago and I think there were 14 6k shots by Pokemon that weren't Illumina or legendary (by 12 different Pokemon...). This is the next highest scoring one behind Beartic 3, Frillish 3.

This is a really intricate event whose beauty and depth often gets overlooked by casual players, I'd guess. It's a big jellyfish prom where each male Frillish that you orb in the tunnel pairs with a female at the end (females with no partner end up alone and lonely). And there's this subplot about a Tentacruel who wants to date a Frillish but gets stopped by his parents so you have to help him sneak out for his date. Really wild if you do the whole thing and see how filled the place gets with Frillish. For this shot you have to orb at least the main one on your way there, and the second one behind is free points so no reason not to do it as well. When you play music, every couple that you've reunited starts dancing. The background is both the ancient ruins and the crystabloom. The shot is focused on the female facing you, with the dancing male one providing synergy points. If you get the proper angle you can take this shot unzoomed, which is how you get the wide, almost cinematic looking background view.

The record shot here chose to light the crystabloom purely for visual effect, it's not required for the shot. This is how it looks in the dark, quite different even though it's the exact same shot:

I get that the Chibi Robo song is supposed to sound like flipping through TV channels, and there are some segments that I would have liked to listen to full length, but without there even being a main theme during the song, listening to it without actually watching the credits seems pretty pointless.

Don't know about restaurants or whatever, but as far as bottled stuff in stores:

I feel like there's a difference between brands that are "here's a flavored drink, it's water based" and "here's some sparkling water, it has flavor added". When they lean into the flavor specifically, they can be good. When they're just trying to be Water Variation #45678, they're always gross to me.

I'm sure ordering water and getting this instead of plain water would be annoying (whether it's flavored or not), just like places that don't specify between sweetened and unsweetened iced tea.

Due to physical space (and especially accounting for the fact that football players are larger than average humans), there is a finite amount of players who could be considered actively "in the fight" at any given time. So DK would most likely be fighting multiple waves of players consecutively. Since these are real life humans and not video game people, I trust that he would be able to take on a group of them at a time. And since we're only talking about a few dozen people at most (not like a hypothetical 1,000,000 or something), endurance between waves isn't a major factor to worry about.

DK wins by taking them out one by one or group by group.

I was just gonna let it die since it wasn't getting a lot of activity when I was posting but I can do more if you guys want.

If you don't submit a name then they will default you to one of your current names (which in most people's cases is probably their "site name" i.e. login name).

I think I'm not changing my name because stealing my 2002 account's name would be rewriting history.

I can't imagine how Hypnospace would work on Switch considering the amount of typing involved. Which is the exact reason why I didn't play it years ago (on my old laptop where a few keyboard keys didn't work...) and had to wait until I got a new one earlier this year.

I'm surprised that I've never heard of Dum-Dum if even for the obvious "if you like Hypnospace then you should try this" comparisons that I assume were its main selling point.

I'll read the comments and probably not watch any more than I already did when it was live.

Wily stages in Mega Man are given special significance within the context of the game, they're not "just another level". Just because "final boss's level" was not one of the examples listed in the first post doesn't mean that it counts. It's obviously against the spirit of the topic.

Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2 came to mind first. I mean, I don't know if it completely fits, considering it kicks off the final act of the game, but it's not the last stage or the final battle.

I haven't watched what you're talking about, but you're making it sound like the Pokemon R/G "prototype" leak from a few years ago which was a really upsetting situation.

How does Pyramid Head take damage and get defeated? I'm not familiar enough with him.

I bought Robopon as a kid knowing that it was a blatant and intentional ripoff, but I wanted to see if would be able to enjoy it as a standalone game anyway. And yet I was still surprised by how similar some of the content was (in particular the graphic style, some of the Robopon designs and names, and the structure/progression of the game).

The one thing that was majorly different, the battle system, was very confusing and I don't think that I fully understood it while I played. Also, I never beat the game because I lost my good file due to an unexpected autosave when my friend wanted to see the beginning of the game.

2/3 is my best win in a while, but of course the losing one is one of my top songs in the contest.

There are 2 Bulbasaurs that you can orb and they run up onto this cliff section. The one closer to you will always get there first, and it starts looking around back and forth while it's waiting for the second one to arrive. That's what this is, catching it mid-head turn. It's timed in such a way that the second one gets there as quick as possible so it's fully visible while the first one is still mid-animation (this is the trickiest part; most people's shots have the second one hidden behind the first while it's still coming in). By using face placement instead of body placement, the shot can be taken further to the right to include the Unfezant's nest for additional background.

This is what's been dubbed an "idle pose", a random action that a Pokemon may do while it's not interacting with anything. Idle poses are both a blessing and curse in this game. They breathe a huge amount of life and variety into this game for making the wild Pokemon seem more realistic. But it can also be a pain when an idle pose is required for a record shot because you have to get it into position and then just hope that it happens. Idles can be any star level or pose value, but they are most commonly 1 star and 900-1000 points, accounting for the fact that 1 stars are most likely to have fewer good interactions. This shot is also taken in front of the "seasons room", a common background area because it has both a crystabloom and a crap-ton of extra Pokemon.

When I attempted my version of this shot, I chose to use Summer Deerling because it is clearly the superior looking Deerling. But doing so requires you to give up Gardevoir from the background because it only shows up if you take the winter path. I'm happy with the way that my PB looks, but there's always the potential that it could have been slightly higher if I had taken the same shot from winter instead...

I'm just gonna come out and say it, I don't get what's so special about Aquatic Ambiance. I never really understood why it was elevated to the level of "ultra mainstream popular" with the other big songs that non-VGM listeners often bring up. Most of the other songs in that category I can see the appeal or agree that they deserve to be there, but I simply don't find this song that praiseworthy.

Disclaimer: The fact that this VGMC match is going against one of my top songs from my favorite soundtrack is a literal coincidence; I have been thinking this about Aquatic Ambiance for over a decade. It's not just match commentary.

Since most of these robots are built for projectile fighting, I kind of feel like they would be more vulnerable to physical attacks. He's built to withstand Mega Man's attacks, but a strong up-close punch would be more damaging.

I also don't see why DK couldn't do the same dodging pattern that Mega Man can do, and attack during the vulnerable parts since Air Man always moves in predictable ways.

This, except "19characterusername" is funny because it's one of the meme names that I thought about myself while hoping that someone would use it as a joke.

This isn't entirely what the topic is asking, but I've always hated when series alternated between numbered and subtitled games. Grand Theft Auto was one of the worst offenders of this. Because it ends up like:

"Look, Vice City is the next big game!"

"Look, San Andreas is the next big game!"

"Look, GTA 4 is the next big game!"
"Uhh aren't there are least 5 games already"
"No those last two didn't really count, this is the next main one!"

It's like they're trying to use the names as an excuse to either promote or downplay certain releases depending on what's more convenient at the time.

I wonder what Blue Orb sounds like to people who haven't played the game. It's a song that's been with me for many, many years and instantly invokes imagery of the place where it plays. It's an atmosphere (ironic) that's really spectacular in both visuals and audio. I can't imagine what other people see when they hear this song.

I was gonna type this post while listening to it but as soon as I started it, I had to stop thinking and just admire it in peace for the full 5 minutes.

I'm gonna vote for Live and Learn just to prevent Escape From the City from winning.
