I liked Dunkey's video on it. Nobody could say dunkey is bad at gaming, and he beat elden ring 4 times, and he says the game had some bullshit difficulty they needed to balance. I think that's fair.

There's definitely some stuff they need to smooth out

But that said, even as a guy who plays story/easy mode on basically everything else, ER is actually shockingly approachable. Still difficult, but it's designed to give you options and some leeway.

And this is coming from someone who tried Dark Souls and never got into it and who absolutely HATED Sekiro.

There's similar stuff with Elden Ring rn. A newer update tweaked a very difficult boss to make him less overpowered and certain very stupid people in the fan community feel the need to complain that the company is catering to people who want the games to be easier, and then trying to make it a superiority thing like "You beat Starscourge Radahn? Big deal I ackshully beat him BEFORE he was patched"

I'll open by saying that while I'm not a fan of Fromsoft's other games, I've been playing Elden Ring and love it.

There is definitely validity to the statement "the game is as easy as you make it"

The combat is deep but ultimately pretty simple and intuitive, and grinding (while still grinding) is a far more enjoyable experience than in other games.

If you reach a dungeon or boss fight that's too difficult the game also encourages you to just go off and do other shit for a while. It's very nonlinear like that

Lol that's funny, that reminds me of the time I thought I broke the main PC we use at work

I'm going to preface this by saying that I know it was very stupid, but this PC tower, on which basically everything necessary for my job runs, is conveniently placed to use as a footrest. I had my foot up on it when someone came out and I had to quickly get up from my seat, and in doing so I knocked the tower down onto its side. Immediately my two monitors both go black. I play it cool while I address the issue the guy had, but when I come back I restart the PC and get an error message in the bootup process that the disk is invalid or missing.

At this point I am sweating bullets, wondering how I'm going to explain this to my boss and supervisor. Without explaining why, I tell my boss about the message I'm encountering. He suggests to restart the PC, which, of course, I'd already done. But I do it anyways and everything came back up fine.

I'm a bit confused as to the timeline of events here. How long has the Elden Ring been shattered? Like how long have the Lands Between been like this?

Cause it feels like shit has been degrading for a long time just judging from the state of the world but you'll have regular people still wandering around being all like "oh hey I'm just travelling" or "Hey I got a castle near here that I lost if you wanna help me get it back".

That seems like a pretty reasonable approach when trying to adapt something into a different medium.

What works in one thing will not work in the other.

No idea why people freaked out over this when it's the approach used for most successful adaptations

That was me in Leyndell at like level 128 and I lost so many crazy big stains cuz of how hard it was. I lost like 2 million at Castle Sol tho and Im not really over it yet. Stormveil is insane imo, it might end up being one of the better areas for me. I think I finally 100% it after my fourth visit

At least for me it's still trying to train out the urge to attack everything and clean out entire areas.

Like in LoZ or other action games

Basically just accepting that like the game does not expect me to clear out whole rooms of enemies and will probably punish me if I try, regardless of how much I overlevel
