The Egyptians were pretty dark and probably a mixture of people from the Levant, Saharan refugees, and what have you. Egypt at times ruled over and was at times ruled by Nubians to the south, in what is today Sudan and South Sudan, as well as Libya and Libyans (who come in several shades, depending on ethnicity).
That said, they typically depicted Sub-Saharan Africans as being darker-skinned than themselves. And the Ptolemaids were white as hell and IIRC Cleopatra was literally the first one who bothered to learn how to speak Egyptian: her forebears seem to have considered it to be beneath them, because they were dumb jerks.
None of this mattered very much to the ancients: we have a tendency to back-port our notions of race and impose them on the ancient world, but those were initially invented by Europeans to justify the brutal exploitation (and the extermination of, as was sometimes the case with the former) of Native Americans and Africans, IIRC.

It's a simple matter of starting and stopping HRT. There are only a few things that aren't fully reversible (for example, breast growth and masculinization of facial hair) but those don't really kick irreversibly until you're several months in.

I mean, you do you, but it's pretty brilliant. Zendaya won an Emmy for her part as Rue, because she manages to bring the role of an opioid-addicted teen to terrible, pathetic, beautiful life. And, IMO, there isn't a performance worse than good. Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Sydney Sweeney also knock it out of the park.

Yeah, Euphoria is pretty unapologeticly unreal. There arent that many parties and drugs in college, let alone high school.

What it is is a show about how our traumas shape us and usually for the worse. All of the main cast are fundamentally damaged people to one extent or another. And the show has incredible empathy for each one of these broken dumb asses. Rue doesnt want to live or die. Nate is twisted by a lifetime of rage. Jules hasnt learned to love herself or to take ownership of her body and her passions. Cassie loathes herself for being a histrionic slut at the same time that she loves being the center of attention. And so on

The only problems Ive had arise while I owned it (versus the so-so shape it was in when I got it because the previous owner(s) didnt bother maintaining it) is the battery dying and the starter motor breaking.

Mechanic commented unprompted that its in great shape. Granted, it has ridiculously low mileage for its age, but still. Ill be driving this thing for another 10 years.

I never doubted my transition: that it is was necessary and also that its the best thing that ever happened to me. But every experience is different. Whether its difficulty due to external factors (rejection by parents/family, bad work environment, etc. etc.) or internal factors (confounding conditions like autism, OCD, ADHD, etc. which affect how you think, think about, and process stuff), people do destransition, and that is valid. You are valid, TC.

Im curious: are you seeing a therapist? A good therapist could do a lot to help you sort yourself out.

Edit: Lots of posts happened. I know you may not want to hear this, but you need to be patient, and get yourself straightened out. It is literally never too late to transition, after all.

TopicIn the 20th century, were different LGBT people at each other's throats?
ElatedVenusaur
08/20/22 8:54:03 AM

Early on, the first organized groups were gay men, transvestites(access to transition care being virtually non-existent, though Christine Jorgensen is a prominent early example dating to the '50s, trans sexual/gender [even the terms have evolved over time!]) and the like weren't categories many ID'd with yet), and they were all faced with similar problems, so they were mostly cohesive. Trans men mostly preferred to just throw on some trousers and exist as men to the best of their abilities: it was relatively easy to disappear until recently. They were all considered mentally ill.

Gay rights activists succeeded in getting homosexuality removed from the DSM as a disorder in the '70s, and generally gays and lesbians were hostile to the medical establishment that discriminated against them and pathologized them, basically around the same time it began providing trans people with transition care (though they were still subject to the problems listed above) with major caveats.

Second-wave feminism had two strains which proved hostile to trans women in particular: it created the ideas that conceptualized woman as an oppressed class that "women" must escape (thus turning trans women into oppressors attempting to reinforce their prison or, at best, patriarchal dupes). The other was obsessed with purity: and trans women were necessarily deemed to be "impure" the latter is still an obsession in TERF circles.

Things didn't really start getting better until the early '90s. Read Susan Stryker's Transgender History: The Roots of Today's Revolution I am: it's how I know any of this! if you're curious to learn more.

ElatedVenusaur
08/18/22 1:51:58 PM

Proto_Spark posted...
I don't really like this argument. Suggesting that sports are just inherently unfair gives the impression that trans women in sports are just genetically better off, when there's very limited evidence to suggest that, especially with the amount of HRT that's required often for trans athletes to actually compete (things like NCAA and the Olympics have had HRT requirements for decades)

Using the argument "Sports are inherently unfair" just gives a lot of weight to transphobic arguments that haven't done nearly enough work to earn that. Not to mention it leads to things like "well then why do we bother with women's sports at all?"

The section of HRT is... weird. 2 of the 3 studies are based on trans men vs. trans women, When the actual debate is about trans women vs. cis women or trans men vs cis men. And the only study shared that even comes close comes with the caveat of "this isn't actually how we measure athletic performance". It certainly doesn't do a particularly good job of saying trans women are just empirically better equipped for sports against cis women, which is how they just start the next section assuming.
Theres also a lot of ignorance about how HRT actually works: mostly cis people way underestimate how powerful it really is. This isnt just limited to laypeople either: a lot of doctors are ignorant too. Its rooted in the erroneous belief that a male person and a female person are fundamentally different from each other, when the biggest difference by far is just from their hormone levels.
