I dunno how anyone can call EB overrated. No one consistently makes giant blind praises to the game like Xenogears or RE4.

what legends needs is a story that isn't afraid to skirt PG13 and some monster hunting like trapping and tracking or something before you throw a pokeball to make catching stuff fun for more than 30 mins.

If it ain't the graphics then the complaint about it is either it needs to be more darker/mature or the game is too easy. You can't win.

if you want good quality writing, you should probably experience things that have good quality writing in them

you're looking in the wrong place for good characterization, plot, development. those things are often well developed in almost anything that isn't an anime-based video game.

I have you tagged as the guy who made a cope post rationalizing how great Xenogears was because it was an incomplete game.

Just got to Yormgen and the cast are all quite annoying as fuck. Everyone is so damn pretentious like hail. Everyone is evasive when confronted with something, everyone wants to be all mysterious and keep secrets, no one knows how be direct and honest with what they want to say, they all seem overly hostile towards each other than the dumb banter you see in previous Tales games, everyone makes up shit to justify their actions. The only person who is direct and honest is Karol. It's pretty exhausting.

It's clear what the party wants to do is help save the world, help everyone that is hurting in front of their eyes, stop evil and want to explore but they're all like "Oh we're only doing this because we're a guild and the princess is paying us to protect her".

In Abyss, the characters all had their secrets as well but they were direct and fleshed out pretty smoothly and quickly. Still have no idea why Rita is so god damn in love with Blastia to an extreme, why Estele knows healing arts without using blastia, why Judith wants to destroy blastia (she's the most evasive one of them all), how Raven knows Duke. It's a bit of a slowburn but I guess it's part of the charm.

Love the combat, though. I like using Yuri and Raven the most.

I love beating up the hippies

The hardest parts for me back then was fighting those sharks but with proper preparation it is quite simple. Just beat on dogs and crows around your house, buy the best equip you can, buy some hamburgers and grind on those sharks until you get to like lvl 8 or 9 and then Frank is ez.

Another hard part is Peaceful Valley because it's Ness by himself and the damn tree monster has a lot of HP and when you kill it, it does nearly enough damage to kill you if you don't end the battle screen quickly. Just bring enough healing items and you'll be fine.

Third hard part is prolly the mall in Fourside as the enemies can combo kill you but if you grind and buy Jeff lots of Big Bottle Rockets everything will be ez including the bosses.
