Does the PS2 version have Party Talk? Cause that's essential.

Watched some PS2 footage of V, and you have to select search and talk from a menu instead of just clicking something/someone, which may be enough to completely veto that version lol.

Unless that's how they all work, which may be enough to veto the game altogether.

This definitely isn't a thing in the DS version that I played.

DQ3 is getting a remake anyway.

I've only played the SNES and DS versions. DS version is a clear upgrade, although both are still great.

If Warrior is to be taken as canon (lol), Mark is actually the most broken tactician in the series.

I'll actually go the opposite route and say that I'd really like a playable Mark with more importance...as long as they don't overtake the plot. Self-inserts aren't bad! Fire Emblem is just bad at them.

Anyway if there is one thing I absolutely want for an FE6 remake its to give Hector a much more badass death. He needs to die for the story to happen (since it sparks the Ostian revolt which causes Etruria to bail Lycia out), but he definitely needs to not get done in off screen.

Either give him a badass cinematic or a playable gaiden where you control him + Oswin + Matthew in a last stand or something like that.

They would definitely do this. I think a FE7 remake would expand Lyn's role somewhat as well. They know where the character popularity lies.

Wait is the final chapter of FE7 supposed to be difficult? I found it to be a lot easier than the couple chapters leading up to it, which kicked my ass.

Lyn potentially capping Strength just by sheer force of will is a thing of beauty.

It's really that 9 Constitution vs 16 Weight that isn't going him any favors there.

I honestly almost never use units that are recruited past the halfway mark of a FE game, regardless of design, archetype, or effectiveness. Early units just have too much attachment built up by then. Even if John Archer sucks, he's my John Archer. Those later recruits should stop trying to ride off the coattails of my squad's success and sit on the bench where they belong.

Three Houses was fantastic for giving you basically everyone you can use at the start of the game.

I guess the Sain Train was, in fact, unstoppable.

She's not a unit meant for optimal strategy, she's a project for people who like seeing numbers go up. I personally find that way more fun than using gift-wrapped stat blocks like Pent.

I don't know why green unit AI in SRPGs is so bad so often. Might be the actual biggest failing of the genre as a whole. I'm fine with missions that require me to protect people, but it'd rather those people didn't also seek death at every opportunity.

FE7 in specific feels like they poorly balanced the early game units versus the later game units. It's kind of lame when someone you recruit in Chapter 20 is immediately far superior to someone you've been raising with care for most of the game.

Oh that map is a fucker. It causes me more problems than any other.

Byleth is definitely a misstep, especially in a story-heavy game like Three Houses. Three Hopes having a speaking protagonist and having Byleth speak as well really highlighted the missed potential there.

Oh it totally makes 'sense' by anime age standards, and I doubt they'll change it, it's just throwing me for a loop.

FE7 really knocked it out of the park with its three lords. They remain popular to this day, even Eliwood.

FE has usually done a great job with main characters, actually. Less so with Awakening/Fates, but I consider Lucina a main character and she rules. Byleth doesn't count because the real main characters of Three Houses are the house leaders. Maybe Roy sucks but I didn't play Binding Blade.

Side note, but I was really surprised when I looked up character information after playing FE7 and found out that Hector is only 17 years old. Puberty hit him like a truck. Was also kind of surprised to hear that Lyn is supposed to be 15 in the OG Japanese version. It took me a while to realize that age in anime never makes sense!

I like the pirate maps in FE7. They're fun.

With 8 Def and 2 Res, I can think of several things that can stop the Sain train!

Edit: According to growths, that wasn't even being stat screwed? Jeez. I forgot how awful some of the early FE game growths could be.

Yeah as an adult with responsibilities I simply don't have the time to replay long maps due to one mistake. I'm glad this is becoming prevalent in SRPGs.

Not sure how hot of a take this is, but the first ten chapters of FE7 are the best part. I wish Lyn and her squad had been the main focus the whole way through.

Those are some mighty fine Lyn level-ups.

I know that the later games inflating stats and giving everyone higher growth rates made it more difficult for characters to get RNG screwed, but that also means you don't get your brain tickled whenever your Myrmidon gains Str+1.

Getting a real "the world is healing" vibe from these FE7 posts

Echoes is hard carried by its presentation. I think re-experiencing all its gameplay quirks when they aren't novel would be...difficult.

I'm a pretty big proponent of localizations changes when necessary, and as an example in Fates, the Soleil romance changes were very appreciated. A lot of the other changes I've heard about in Fates are head-scratchers though.
