I really didn't care for that docu-series. The dude who made it and some of those self-appointed sleuthers rubbed me the wrong way.

It felt meme-y about the cat killings and barely touched on Jun Lin. Like he was an afterthought. At certain points, it felt like some of them felt the cats' lives were more important than his. And then, they kinda are like "Oh yes and of course that poor man he murdered" which felt shoehorned in.

It's two East Asian names slapped together with no rhyme or reason. Even if you look into the entomology of the names, you have to do loop after loop to get it to make sense in English.

So it's either Rowling has this incredibly detailed, complex backstory behind the character's name or she just smushed two entirely different cultures together to make a stock-Asian character.

That's how my Chinese friend explained it to me.

Growing up we had fried chicken, waffles, and watermelon all the damn time as a white Midwestern family. All three of those things are delicious.

For fried chicken and watermelon, they go back to slavery and post-slavery times. They were "poor" and "uncivilized" foods. They are easily accessible and finger foods ie not for a higher quality of people.

It's the same thing as they grape soda and wine stereotypes. It's all about perception and class distinction through whatever means, even with food and drinks.

Yes, friend chicken and watermelon and waffles are great. Delicious. There are even high class places that probably have dishes with them that cost a shit ton of money.

But the overall, historical connotation is rooted in that separation.

So between this and all of the black/brown cops and woman cop being fired and those white cops getting suspended for the sex scandal.

I mean they aren't even hiding it amongst their own ranks.

This is one of the most frustrating things about being a teacher.

The bureaucracy is bad enough, but people with zero experience in front of a classroom, with no first-hand knowledge of how to interact with students, bemoans our teaching strategies and tells us how to do our jobs.

All you are doing is using your experience as a student, anecdotes from your Asian friends, and random links to show how much more you know about teaching than people who are trained in the profession.

Not one reputable teaching program would advocate what you are saying. Not in the West, not in the East. If you go to any teacher across any culture and tell them to do what you preach, you will be laughed at.

You are also missing out on the KEY component that all teachers must adhere to: the safety of our students. That is the end all and be all to teaching.

But you've already stated that teenage suicide is a good thing. So anything you say in regards to education and teaching is dismissable.

Weren't the only romantic options for Byleth the older characters? Like I know there were legit children characters before the time skip but they weren't romantic options after the time skip were they? I can't remember as I think I only romanced one of the characters closest in age.

Hahahaha. Your stereotyping of how good "Asian" education is is woefully misguided. Students and teachers here always complain about how the education system needs an overhaul. And how ineffective it is in actually teaching students useful content not designed for rote memorization. That's not even accounting for the after school tutoring classes students have to take.

And it's hilarious how upset you are about this woman announcing she's engaged when a few weeks ago, one of my co-workers announced her engagement and her homeroom students threw her a party with cake and a congratulatory poster they made for her.

To top it off, her wedding was attended by all of the teachers, including the vice-principal and principal as well as her homeroom students from this year and last year. And that's considered completely normal and expected.

The ones you talk about? The never saying anything about their personal lives? That doesn't exist except out of your weird Asian stereotypes. Even the most robotic and boring teachers will talk about something in their personal lives to connect to the material. That's basic Teaching 101 type stuff across all cultures.

The circle game is where you make a circle with your hand using the okay symbol and if the friend looks and it's below the waist, like at the knees for example, then the first person can punch their friend in the arm.

Granted I do think racists have co-opted the symbol and I don't trust gator to not have a "nuanced" view of race relations. But the game itself is harmless in it's basic incarnation.

Everything you just said is wrong.

We still track at all levels, and a majority of students who are put on low tracks are students of color or don't speak english as their first language, which reinforces a white-dominated educational system. Most teachers are well aware of this and there are efforts to detrack and elevate all students but it's a sisyphus-ian task as we're overworked already and can't fight on the front lines of the battle against the structures that be.

We also don't change/lower standards or expectations for all students just because students with disabilities are also in the classroom. Those students have specific individualized education plans and/or 504 accommodations that allow them to participate in various capacities in the regular education classroom, which studies have shown correlate to improved learning outcomes for all students.

All of this.

Also IEP meetings were awesome. My coworkers always complained but it was awesome to see those young kids think critically about what worked for them and what didn't and get a chance for their voice to be heard.
