I just saw Beau is Afraid. What an absolutely insane ride. It didn't drag too much, but I still feel this didn't need to be 3 hours long. This movie could be trimmed down. I was wondering "Where the hell is this supposed to be going?" and was hoping it wasn't just all this insanity for the sake of having insanity, and fortunately by the end it does lend some clarity that, on thinking back to what we've watched, it's actually really, really good.

It won't be for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed what we got. I love the themes of this movie, and I think it's something I'd probably like even more on a re-watch... Which is daunting at 3 hours still.

If you're looking for something creative and artistic, and don't mind the length, I'd check it out. I enjoyed it far more than Midsommar, but not as much as Hereditary. It's a totally different movie though. I'd say it's an odyssey of uneasiness that rarely lets up. It's a feeling Ari Aster has mastered, certainly.

I'm also waiting until Storm drops before I pick this back up, but I'm sitting at 3/4 completion probably.

I went from being absolutely stuck on 25-40 to being able to just mash and win through 25-40. Finished 25-40 on the first try. Absolutely insane power boost when you get to 240.

Ayyyy I finally hit 240 with my squad, which changes everything over to a monument for some reason, meaning you level up all of your characters under Limit Break at the same time.

Everyone is 268 now! Everyone is also a lot stronger now too. I should be able to power through a lot more now!

Whew, I FINALLY just beat 25-20. Just completely brutal. Abel-Bison-Cammy-Beast Gief. I basically let myself do dailies and the minimum to get my stuff while I was on vacation and eventually got enough resources. The trick was to use Chun-Li's combo ender instead of Mad Ryu's since her's is AOE and hits people behind Bison too instead of Mad Ryu getting stuck hitting an invincible Bison. Bison's combo end blast and his revive blast just does too much damage. Eventually, I got lucky enough to take out Beast Gief and Bison at the same time.

Currently sitting at:

Beast Gief: SSS 4*, level 240
Abel: SSS 4*, level 239
Chun-Li: SSS 2*, level 240
Mad Ryu: SSS 3*, level 240 (+3 SSS Cars)

Made it to Level 311 on Supreme Fist. Now, I just need to get Abel to 240, then max out SSS ranks, and then actually start completing Inverse Worlds, but those aren't fun and I hate playing them.

And then I probably need to think about switching up teams after I get SSS 5* on everyone. Beast Gief stays, but I'll probably start working towards including Guile since apparently he's one of the strongest. I've apparently gotten past the point of Mad Ryu being top tier now, but I'll run him probably until I max his SSS levels and then use Guile instead.

The gods in Moon Knight felt less ridiculous after Thor 4 revealed that the vast majority of gods are just too far up their own asses to pay any attention to mortals.

What I loved about Thor 4 is how they brought that up, it was the main villain's entire motivation, but it doesn't actually play into the movie at all with Thor realizing the Gods mostly suck and Gort is right, or it ever really coming up in a significant way after that.

Wake me when they add Scat Gamble.

I'd say I liked Spidey 3, Doctor Strange 2, and Shang Chi, then there's a gap between how much I liked Eternals and Wakanda Forever, and then I actively disliked Thor and Black Widow. Thor Love & Thunder is probably one of my least liked MCU films ever. Bottom 5 easy.

lol Some dude tried Electro > Hobgoblin > Galactus and I had Daredevil running for turn 5. Started spamming snaps and fist bumps and I snapped and started fist bumping back.

Then I just threw down an Aero with priority and brought him to another location and he just did "I don't believe you," fist bumped, and quit. Gotta respect it honestly.

I struggle to think of any horror movies that benefit from an Americanized remake honestly.

The Ring is the only one that jumps out at me, but I'm sure there's a few others.

But everything else? Mostly just a step down quality-wise.

Not entirely sure why they're remaking a movie 2 years after its release but then again they did it with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Let Me In and they worked just fine

It really is stunning how well they nailed all of these characters. Nobody sounds corny, out of character, or existing just to quip or whatever. They all feel like completely fleshed out characters and as much as Hunter gains a lot of character from talking to them, they show a lot more character talking to her.

I absolutely love the comm channel stuff. Actual hilarious jokes are there, and nearly everyone gets a chance to be funny there. Even Cap has some good jokes too.

Edit: Also, Morbius has an awful blood disease that made going outdoors, especially for something leisurely like tanning, very difficult.

Yeah, I don't think I've had that many issues like that either. I haven't played in a minute though, so maybe some things broke in the recent two updates.

Just finished watching Swarm on Amazon Prime! Really interesting show. It has its ups and downs, but overall it's a great look at toxic fandom culture. It's entirely created by Donald Glover and it is wildly chaotic.

The reviewers were all Diesels.

Just saw Renfield. It was an extremely fun time and Nicholas Cage was perfect.

Deadpool is better after you unlock more cards. Base Deadpool sucks.

Ghost Rider also needs more cards to be effective. I always replace the car with something.

Whew, I finally beat 24-40. That was hell. Eventually I realized I needed to whittle down Zangief-Elena-Poison because the back up M. Bison would come in too early and just wreck shop. So I put my assist spots on my Chun-Li and Beast Gief so they would do more AoE damage instead. Eventually when Zangief went down, I was able to get Elena down immediately after. Then it was just luck managing to stuff combos to keep them from doing tons of damage.

Onto 25.

After Midsommar I definitely need to see reviews for this one. Especially with it being three hours. The worst part of Midsommar was how long it was and how much they could have trimmed to make a better film.

The thing with gachas is that these events will all rotate. So if you pull only one Akuma this time, or only one Maga Ken last time, they'll come around with these same events later.

I think I hit my ceiling with the elemental towers. My strongest team is my wind team, and I can't get past 124.

Wait nvm Mia Goth is going to be in Blade. The MCU is back babyyyyy.

I also got zero Akumas. I imagine he's meant to be extremely rare.

Finally got my whole squad to 239 now, but to get to 240 you need 50k break stones which is terrible. Break stone drop rate is just abysmal. So now I'm left to using cars and equipment to try boosting my characters. Still struggling on 24-40 but I think I can get it.

Also, new Wonderland Training stages! They have plenty of good items there.

It is weird that the end credits scenes used to set up for the actual next couple MCU movies coming out, but now it's just setting up for movies that we don't even know if they'll ever exist.

Our next movies after Marvels are Cap 4, Thunderbolts, Blade, and Deadpool 3. Starfox, Clea, and Hercules absolutely don't fit into any of those.

TV-wise we have Loki Season 2, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha, and Daredevil. And honestly, it feels like the only one of those three who has a shot of showing up again is probably Clea in Loki Season 2.

And all of these Young Avengers and not a single hint that they may actually be doing something with them teaming up and that drives me nuts because the Young Avengers are not getting younger!

So long as they keep Mythos restaurant relatively the same, it's an upgrade.

Mythos is quite literally the only place with good food in the amusement parks there.

Stuck on 24-40 now. I just don't have the damage to overcome the Zangief-Elena-Poison-Bison combo, and Bison just shreds.

Also stuck on Floor 297 of Supreme Fist. Mad Ryu just keeps soloing with Hadoukens chaining.

Basically, I'm level 239 on my squad except Chun-Li who is still 220 and I am 6k Break Stones away from being able to level her up more. With an upgraded Chun-Li I can probably make it happen.

I haven't gotten 100% on any Inverse Worlds yet, but I'll probably try that when I get Chun-Li leveled up and I can level up everyone else too.

Yesssss. So glad more people are checking out this game. It absolutely rules from a gameplay and story and character standpoint.

I think Biscuit's point about trust is interesting. I was kind of meh on everything after Endgame. To me, Wakanda Forever was their chance to win me back with what should've been a sure-fire success. And I just found it kind of okay. Since then I just don't care.

I didn't bring up Wakanda Forever since some people liked it a lot more than I did.

But that movie was so boring and I think it's just a far less interesting direction to go with Shuri whose personality just turned into a dull, serious character in grieving as the lead rather than just re-casting T'Challa. Which isn't as much of a mess as others... but it didn't instill a ton of confidence in me either. Especially with how bad that final act was.

This isn't to say they haven't done some good stuff. I greatly enjoyed Spider-Man, Wandavision, Doctor Strange, among others. I even really liked Quantumania--but that movie had a ton of issues with it as well. But I don't feel like anymore when I watch an MCU movie or TV show I'm absolutely going to have a great time. And I think that before this Phase 4, I pretty much felt I was going to 90% of the time. That number is far less now.

I think a lot of it for me is about trust.

Do I trust they'll do a good job with Captain Marvel? I was extremely excited for the original movie, but that ended up being a let down because they seemed to have a misunderstanding of the character's personality. This one seems to get it more by the trailers but I'm still weary.

Do I trust they'll do a good job with Ms. Marvel? That TV show was a freaking disaster. Ms. Marvel the character is endearing enough but it still feels like a fumble.

Put together the fact that MCU hasn't been as strong lately. With failures of the handling of Thor, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk, I don't feel as confident in them as I was in the past.

Really hope they can start building up confidence again in the MCU.

It looks good. Glad they're finally letting Captain Marvel have a decent personality now.

I dunno, I think I hit the point where the MCU has been kind of a let down in a lot of areas recently that I'm not as excited for this as I ought to be. I'll see it, but I miss when I would watch a trailer like this and become incredibly excited.

I'm even not as excited for Guardians 3, and I know that's going to be a banger.

I think what makes Cranky's voice sound weird or bad is that the character is nothing like the Cranky Kong in the games where he's just a crotchety old man dunking on DK all the time. Instead here he's just a generic old man ruler of monkey island or whatever with a little sass.

There's no reason for a fully backed by Nintendo Mario movie to not hold a candle to Puss in Boots 2.

Imagine if they did get DreamWorks for this thing. What a fucking world that would have been.

It doesn't need to reach some standard of narration and get as dark or deep as Puss in Boots 2 of all things. It just needs to be a fun and enjoyable movie. Like props to Puss in Boots 2 for being what it was, but not every animated movie needs to be that.

Also, big credit to Chris Pratt for his voice acting. He was a hell of a lot better than trailers made it seem. Either they had him re-shoot some stuff after the reception or they just happened to pick the worst takes for some of these voice lines.

Even the "Wahoo!" on the kart that sounded like he was a bored geriatric sounded different and much better in the film.

This was a ton of fun. I greatly enjoyed it as a fan of the games and my heart warmed with every music beat I heard and the little references I noticed.

It's just a fun little movie that doesn't need to be anything more than it was. The plot was nothing special, but who cares? It's just a short, silly Mario movie that just gives you a bunch of fun stuff in it. I very much enjoyed my time watching. Big recommend.

That's dumb.

The point should be you rewind time to know what your opponent is going to do so you can counter it. Not so you can get a freebie retreat. That sucks.

So uh, I ran into my first Kang. He played last turn, retreated, and froze my game.

Also, why the hell is Kang allowed to let you retreat after use? That's so dumb. Should count as committing to the full turn.

Just a reminder that Yellowjackets Season 2 is out and it's been amazing so far. Tons of horror in this show, and the latest one had some really chilling scenes.

Yeah, Beast Gief actually isn't a tank class, so he can't be your solo tank here. That's why I have Abel to make him more beefy.

Honda is very good though. If you're finding yourself needing more survivability, consider starting combos with Honda. If I remember right, he has a good defense buff from that.

You can always try to replace Elena with Mad Ryu and see if you can burst through with damage rather than healing. With Beast Gief, Honda, and Elena, you probably aren't putting out a ton of damage.

I dunno, it feels self explanatory to me! Just fight the boss, trade in shards to boost your guild stats, then spend the tickets on stuff.

Holy hell, I did an x10 Divination and got two Chun-Li's. Got my whole squad at SSS now.

But I'm still begging for more Break Stones. Jesus, those things are so hard to come by. I only just now got to upgrade Mad Ryu with them and I'm back down to none again and need 30k.

I like Divination a lot for the other goodies you get.

I've had better luck using Divination to get my units than I have with doing standard draws. Wish list doesn't help, and it's frustrating when I even get enough tokens for a type pull and I still don't get any of the 3 wind characters I use. It also helps that I need more units to upgrade my other characters, so I have been going with Divination.
