I will never understand how we allowed ourselves to get to the point where it was considered conspiratorial to claim that it's possible covid accidentally leaked from an institute of virology, that happened to be at the epicenter of the pandemic, that also had been researching covid for decades, that also had been flagged in the past for falling short of the required safety standards.

On a broader level, are you asking this rhetorically? Or are asking for reasons making a statement like this led to people being suspicious of you?

That agency and Farmington police said officers were to respond to a domestic violence related call at one house around 11:30 p.m. But the officers mistakenly went to another house, which appears to be across the street, officials said.
The knocking officer appears to laugh after being told the correct address, and then says an expletive as the door starts to open. The video shows the officer backing up and shining a flashlight at the now opening door.
"Hey, hands up!" the officer says before police open fire at the person in the doorway, later identified as Dotson. A portion of the video slowed down by police appears to show what looks like the homeowner raising a gun.

I heard about this from someone discussing the comparisons to the two recent shootings (at the time) of people going to the wrong address. It's a bit academic but I wonder if stand your ground applies when facing police officers?

I remember when there was the story of the black kid falling asleep on a bus and he knocked on someone's door, preparing to ask for directions to his school. The dude came out and started immediately shooting. Luckily the kid ran and didn't get hit, plus the racist ass got prison time. Hopefully, the same happens here, but I won't be surprised if he gets nothing.

I also remember The Admiral going to great lengths to claim that the kid was "casing the joint" for a future robbery and the homeowner was within his rights to defend his property.

Technically there is some truth to this, as early slavery included all races from different areas until multiple rebellions led people to enslaving only blacks from Africa because they were significantly different from, and couldn't communicate and work together with, other "undesirables".

So it originally was worse than racism, it was just straight cruelty and inhumanity. But I doubt these assholes understand that, or how it significantly increased racism across the country.

Factually speaking, there were other slaves besides black people, including white people and indigenous people. Not all white people were indentured servants, either.

That being said, US Slavery was abso-fucking-lutely grounded in racism.

Well put - the distinctions are important as it ultimately HAS been a feedback loop of racism driving and being driven by slavery in the US as time progressed.

Yes, 'whites' were slaves. Ottomans did a number on south and east European people. The consequences can be felt even today.

North African and Middle-Eastern countries/empires/whatever were the biggest slave traders in history.

World is a lot bigger and older than the US.

True though the bill is addressing the teaching of US history and events...

Only gender affirming care for transgender people. In Florida not long ago a hearing they had to ban gender affirming care for minors had a republican get asked if it would prevent gender affirming care like breast augmentation for minors, and the answer was that it specifically made exceptions for surgeries like that for cis people.

Better treatment, cures or at the least theoretically possible ones. But as things are now I'm wondering if it's simply more time that's needed(decades or more even) rather then crap tons of possibly excess funding.

So a few points -
1) Is "better treatment/more theoretically possible ones" the most comprehensive way to measure progress in medical research?
2) For the sake of your argument (there were a higher rate of "new treatments" developed in the past), which ones are you referring to?
3) Doesn't most scientific research from both time AND money? (being able to come up with fifty different ideas and test them simultaneously rather than doing one or two at a time)

Right, the house cut the funds well over a week ago. National news is only now just reporting on that piece while failing to mention that the Senate is already come out to reinstate the funds. National news doesn't do a great job at providing all the details you can get from a local source

The budget has yet to be passed in the state Senate. Republicans in that legislative body have said they would restore the cuts, but that promise was made before the budget was passed in the House.

Does the promise to reinstate mean it'll definitely happen? I don't know a lot about conflicting budgets by the same party in different houses...

I never told anyone such this outloud but cancer research really has stagnated and that alot more funding won't change won't do or change a thing towards its progress in the short-mid future.

So yes, I do feel it is over funded and it's excess money could be better spent on the R&D of other diseases and health related issues.

What metric are you using to define "stagnated"?

This lawsuit is going to be really bad for Fox News. They've already had multiple hosts testify under oath that they knew Trump's election lies were bullshit, but they repeatedly furthered them any way in attempt to keep their audience from switching to Newsmax and OAN.

Also, a Fox News employee will testify against Fox News. Apparently, Fox News was trying to throw her under the bus along with Maria Bartiromo and pressuring her to give false testimony in this lawsuit. Fox News and Lou Dobbs also recently settled a defamation lawsuit filed by a Venezuelan businessman, Majed Khalil. Lou Dobbs said he played a key role in rigging the election against Trump.

Isn't that witness tampering?
