I'm sorry that happened to you - it take a lot to be vulnerable on that second level! Part of what makes a good therapist is being able to highlight unhealthy behaviors/thoughts while acknowledging how hard it can be to just share it, let alone change it.

To add to this, a lot of times we may talk about struggles/problems flippantly (oh yeah I was OCD yesterday and cleaned my whole apartment) - talking about the source of our problems often leads to (incorrectly) judging ourselves as a person, which is why a good therapist is important.

Okay maybe lyrics seemed pretty self explanatory to me -

*As she/we start life it's hard taking ownerships of mistakes/bad decisions/good choices that didn't work out ("I'm the one responsible")
*When she/we acknowledging our role in those events we find ways to excuse them like being a rebel/antihero - I'm actually awesome/behave the right way, the world just hasn't realized it yet
*But then she/we step back even further and realize we aren't an anti hero - just a person with a tendency to self defeat as most humans are

Greg Wickenkamp is the teacher's name and the pivotal even seems to be this conversation -

Wickenkamp requested a meeting with his superintendent seeking support and guidance related to the discussion of divisive topics in the classroom. Is it acceptable for me to teach students that slavery is wrong? he asked her.

The response from the superintendent, in part, was: To say is slavery wrong I really need to delve into it to see. Is that part of what we can or cannot say? I dont know that.

Here's a few articles

https://www.thegazette.com/staff-columnists/lack-of-support-and-political-pressure-drives-teacher-exodus/

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/03/06/slavery-was-wrong-5-other-things-educators-wont-teach-anymore/

https://thefederalist.com/2023/03/17/in-bemoaning-what-they-wont-teach-anymore-educators-reveal-6-ways-they-indoctrinate-students/

The Federalists seem to believe that that slavery had "evils" but a teacher should let students come to their own conclusions... which seems Olympic level mental acrobatics

Being male I'm not sure what was discussed in the girls class but I *do* remember being told about girls having a period. I was in Georgia for 7th grade and surprisingly the sex ed portion in gym also covered the topic.

Yes, that's the quote I'm referring to. It's incredibly ignorant since there are plenty of LGBT affirming denominations.

1) Where in that quote did the poster claim there weren't?
2) By saying there are "plenty of LGBT affirming denominations", are you claiming they are the majority of Christians? Because if the majority of a group advocates for discrimination then the group description seems appropriate
3) The quote also doesn't have the word "traitors" - your word that's much more loaded than "voting against themselves"

Garabandal posted...
And this is one of the quotes I was referring to wrt my first claim that people think abolishing Christianity would just magically eliminate anti-LGBT+ sentiment.

Again - where in that quote did the poster say LGBT lives wouldn't face any harassment? If a person is stabbed in the neck and right foot, attending to the neck wound doesn't mean the foot wound goes away, and it still appropriate to say the person's health is "better" But most importantly.. why did you leave out his other post? Every single aspect of my life would be completely and utterly destroyed if Christians continue to force their values on me in America. "But you would be executed in some Sharia nation!" And that's why Islam is bad for LGBTQ people in those countries and needs to stop hurting innocents, but I don't live there, so my personal issue is with the primary religion of my home country.

I mean there are people straight up calling LGBT Christians traitors and (falsely) claiming that the moderate Christians don't call out the bigoted ones.

As shockthemonkey pointed out, that doesn't address my question? But I also don't see LGBT Christians being called "traitors"? "There are LGBTQ people that vote Republican despite the GOP openly plotting their complete extermination. " Was this what you were referring to? Regarding moderate Christians - I don't think anyone was saying there are NO moderate Christians calling out bigot, just that the majority don't appear to be doing so.

Even Will Smith had issues with it. Hitch shied away from making his love interest White because they didn't want to turn off the general audience. But at the same time, they also didn't want it to be considered a "Black movie" by having his love interest be Black. So, they met in the middle, and had Eva Mendes, a Latina, play the role (they also considered casting Indian actress Aishwarya Rai, but she turned it down).

And then there was Hancock, where in the original story the main character got back together with his exwife. But in the film starring Will Smith, his character and his exwife--who is White--don't get back together.

Oh true, I wasn't saying he routinely acted in films with a white romantic interest, just that he's the only exception I can think of (Focus and Hancock, to some extent I Robot).

I really think it's more common these days than you're saying it is. I just scrolled through my AMC app for the last 15 or so movies I watched in the theater, and about half featured interracial romantic relationships involving prominent characters.

Definitely more common these days, but that rule was pretty ironclad till the mid 2000s /2010 I think.. the exception being "A black man can date a white woman in the film even if it's NOT about interracial dating/racism IF the black man is Will Smith"

During the lanch of MKII they they did some kind of contest where you were supposed to create a character and submit it to Midway to be used in MK3

The winners were Stryker, Kabal and Nightwolf

Which makes sense. In a game series where every 2nd character is a ninja, those were 3 of the most diverse characters

Did Kabal have any special powers beyond taking off his mask/respirator?

Maybe if it's artistic merit.

So, we can't confirm it, but it's very likely people are dumping cats off not too far away. There's absolutely no reason why there's been a surge of about 8-12 adult cats magically appearing out of nowhere and younger cats somehow appearing in a box 2 streets down in about 2 weeks. It's not natural displacement, as they're clearly in super unfamiliar territory trying to find anywhere to go like a cat that knows it doesn't belong in an area.

You can see the territorial crunch in real time, as these 9 (10) used to have 4 yards to freely roam in about a year ago, now it's down to barely 2 with a cat south and a cat north encroaching in their area daily. This wouldn't be such an issue if this didn't include our porch/yard.

The concern I have, is people see the cats and figure "lol, they won't mind more cats" or they think we're the source of them all. Other concern is someone will 'remove' these like in the past because the others give em a bad rep. I'll refrain posting the method that was used, other than it was permanent.

Oh dang.... :(
